Riverfront Retreat Camping &amp; Cabins

The riverfront is just a short walk from the campsite and the view is absolutely stunning especially at sunrise. It’s just as enjoyable in the afternoon, watching boats go by, spotting freshwater crocs, and relaxing with a drink while trying our luck at fishing. (More weeds than fish😂) The site itself was okay. The grass had recently been slashed so there were clippings everywhere and some areas still uncut, which made it difficult to sit outside comfortably so we stayed in the van. (We were the first visitors of the season) The photos of the site did not match what we stayed on. I assume it will get better once mowed properly. We chose a powered site (10 amp) and used a caravan adapter, but the power did trip a few times when the safety switch kicked in. If you’re planning to use power, only sites 4 and 5 have access, and you’ll need the correct adapter. Water is also available from those sites. All sites are fairly close together, and the area is also used for storing some farm equipment. Aside from check-in, we didn’t see the host again, but they made it clear we were welcome to use the riverfront whenever we liked. Overall, the view is what really makes this place, it’s truly beautiful, and that’s why we’d recommend this Hipcamp.

Affordable luxury

Very responsive and helpful host. Katie Mary was very generous to us during our stay. A fantastic location, with nicely designed, comfortable accomodation. Peaceful, shady and spacious grounds right on the river. Absolutely recommend giving yourselves the pleasure of recovering here and exploring the local area after a few weeks camping in the Kimberley. The view of sunrise over the river and Elephant Rock is a beauty.

Excellent location felt very safe being just out of town great sleep with no noise just a few birds flying over during the night. Will definitely stay her again when we come back one day Katie was very helpful and instructions were easy.

Great Spot

What a great spot. From the powered site it was about 250 meters to the banks of the Ord River. They have grassed a nice area there with tables and chairs. There is also a BBQ there and a fire pit. I met Katie Mary and her family and they were so welcoming. We were only there for 2 nights but I would have liked to stay another few nights but we had previously booked other places. I would recommend these sites to everyone.

Stayed at site 2. Nice and spacious with shady trees. Was nice and quiet. Short walk to the water where we sat and watched the boats go bye. Fire pits is at the river. Easy drive to town. Recommended.

Peaceful riverside stay

Such a beautiful spot right on the river in Kununurra, with stunning views of Elephant Rock and a magical boab tree silhouetted by the sunset. The road in takes you past lush cotton fields, setting the scene for a serene stay. So many birds around — it’s a birdwatcher’s dream! Quiet, scenic, and full of Kimberley charm. Highly recommend.

Riverfront Retreat Site 3

Shady riverfront relaxation area a short stroll from your campsite. Outlook was fantastic and nice at night with an open fire. Campsite large, very accessible and grassy. Very private, well off the main road. Listening to the birds and wildlife was very tranquil and spotting a freshie float or in the river was a bonus. Would highly recommend!!

We stayed four nights. Convenient to town if you have transport. Great freedom for our dogs and lots of space. Hooked up to water, though needed a longer hose. Power extra $10/night, but no 15amp outlet so for caravans you'll need a adapter to 10amp. Dump point in town ($5 at oval). Would stay again.

We had a lovely stay, it was peaceful and perfect for the whole family. The green grass was great for the kids to run around, and Elephant Rock looked absolutely beautiful at sunset. Such a great spot to relax and unwind together!

Quiet Hideaway

Lovely place on the river to enjoy the serenity. Site 1 and 2 are excellent with much shade (site 2 does have machinery but can set up to block and then allows a private auditorium under the trees). We loved being able to have our dogs off leads for 2 days. The short 1 min walk to the river with table chairs bbq and fire pit were appreciated and we set up there from morning coffee until sunset each day.

Lovely shady site only a short drive back to town. Beautiful bird calls at dawn and perfect temperature evenings in late June. Couldn’t swim in the river due to lots of muck hugging the shore but a 10 minute drive to the Swim Beach was perfect where we watched Rainbow Bee-eaters catching insects on the wing. So much better than a caravan park if you are self contained.

Big grassy area, kids loved riding their bikes up and down the driveway. 30 second walk down to the water area with beautiful views of Elephant Rock. There were no other campers there during our stay so we had it all to ourselves (but do note the sites are very close together). Hosts were lovely and very welcoming. We had a great stay!

Nice location - shady, close to, but not in town. We were disappointed the sites were not river frontage given the name of the camp and the photos. Power was an additional $20 per night (not advertised prior to booking)

Lovely quiet peaceful spot to park up. Just a little drive out of town which was no issue at all, given the peace and tranquility of staying here by the river and feeling safe. Enjoyed sitting by the river for morning coffee and knowing power was available if needed (spot had plenty of sun for solar). We were the only ones there and it was nice to have some space, and for the kids aswell to spread out. We thought about putting our tinny in the river from the backyard but quite a lot of vegetation on the banks, could do if really wanted to, or alternatively the boat ramp in town is not too far away. Lovely place to base yourself for a few days, highly recommended.

Great location just out of Kununurra with access to the lake. We had booked a specific site but there did not appear to be any site numbers but managed to find a suitable spot for our camper. This is a lovely property with park like grounds. The views across to Elephant rock are stunning especially during sunrise and sunset, we even managed to spot a couple of fresh water crocs late in the afternoon. Although sites are not located on the waterfront it's just a short stroll down to the foreshore where a couple of bistro tables have been provided. Would definitely stay again.
