Only a minutes walk from a quaint “outback” general store with giftware, lunch and a good coffee. Onsite we have a range of farm animals (cows, chickens and sheep). Locally there are many walks and tracks ideal for families wanting to see some of what Gippsland has to offer. Situated on the Princes Highway, about 18 minutes from Orbost and 10 minutes drive from a public dump station. If you’re travelling between Sydney and Melbourne and want a peaceful break, this is it! Our maiden voyage in the camper couldn’t have been more perfect. The campsite felt like stepping back into our childhood on the farm, surrounded by beautiful trees, crackling fire pit, and cheeky cows keeping us company. Simple, peaceful, and full of nostalgia. A wonderful spot to unwind and reconnect with nature. We’ll definitely be back!

What a great place to camp in amongst the bush and birdsong. The host were very welcoming and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place and will revisit when next in this neck of the woods.

Beautiful peaceful location on a private camp site. The area is flatish but some levelling may be required. It's close to the Princes Highway so expect some road noise during the day. This will vary according to the wind direction and your camping position. The upper part of the field was much quieter. As others have noted, road noise significantly drops off during the night and it was very peaceful. Either way, it wasn't a problem for us. Evan was very welcoming- great fellow! The fact that all Hipcamp income goes to the Cancer Council gives this site a big tick of approval.

A Special Place

Stockyard Lane, Old Mill Field, was large, mostly flat, freshly mowed green grass, surrounded by stunning green hills, bushland, dams, cows, sheep & chickens in the distance & a wombat (stumbled across several dugouts, but never saw it). We even ate wild blackberries. Evan met us on arrival & gave a tour of the camp area, which we had to ourselves. We met with Kate & Evan the following day & had some friendly chat. Driveway is dirt/gravel, nicely maintained, some low hanging small branches to navigate for our big rig - no issues. Area is 2WD accessible but when wet may be some soft patches best for 4WD. Camp is far back from street & highway noise heard, but, only during the day. By late afternoon traffic noise gone & sunset over the trees has a vibrant orange glow. Property fully maintained by Kate, Evan & their kids & all Hipcamp earnings given to charity close to their hearts. Their fee is small compared to other Hipcamps who offer less & charge double. You won’t meet a more generous & kind couple. Local dump point 8mins drive but doesn’t have water. 20mins drive has dump point in nearby Orbost & potable water right next door. There’s a small IGA/Liquor store & larger Foodworks & Caltex for diesel, ULP98 & ULP91. 100% choose this Hipcamp over others in the area, but ensure you discuss vehicle size prior to booking, as if full, may struggle to navigate area. Beautiful Hipcamp.

Plenty of space. Evan and Kate were so happy to host us. As we weren't well Kate gave us some coconut water and as there were no other campers we felt safe and content to recover by ourselves.

Stockyard Lane was the perfect overnight stop for us to breakup a long 10hr drive! Just off the main road easy to pull in and not even unhitch, exactly what we were after. Unfortunately it rained the whole time so we didn’t venture far from the van. Kate and Ev were great communicators, we would happily stay agin.

My husband and I had a great time tent camping here. I'm glad Evan asked if we wanted/that he had a site that was private. We camped near the little lagoon/pond area next to an abandoned building, and it was nice and quiet. We also took Evan's recommendation of driving only 11 minutes to Salmon Rocks at sunset..HIGHLY recommend!!! Soo beautiful.

Our third stay, Hipcamping doesn't get better than this! Great location, super close to Cape Conran and Salmon Rocks, an easy drive to Orbost and Marlo too. The sites are delightful, rich and green with lovely outlooks. Hosts, Kate and Evan make this camp a home away from home. Enjoy!

Kate and Evan were very accomodating, lovely people. Our site (at the dam) was flat and quiet, and had quite a lot of birdlife which was nice to wake up to. And the fantastic price has to be mentioned. Highly recommended!

Fantastic camping grounds! Felt very save here! There was very strong winds coming through at 2/3am and Kate and Evan drove down to the site to check in on us to see if we were all ok! Super friendly.. definitely recommend Marie, Shan and Cosmo

Our overnight stay here was a perfect pause in a longer drive. Evan's greeting was friendly and informative and the site was flat with space from other campers. Love that they are donating proceeds to the cancer council until April and really enjoyed hearing the Bellbirds when we woke up. Would stay again and would suit a longer stay than an overnight as well. Thanks!

Cabbage Tree Creek is a cute little hamlet and Kate and Evan’s property is lovely, with lots of different sites. They were very friendly and welcoming hosts and made sure I had a spot I was comfortable with, even though it was one of the busiest nights of the year for them.

A wonderfully peaceful and picturesque place to stay! Plenty of space to set up camp, With friendly hosts who made us feel at home. Our kids loved visiting the cows and sheep in the nearby paddock. Thank-you Kate and Evan for having us!

It’s so such a beautiful place to camp! Stunning view and the kids loved the animals! It’s quiet and peaceful with only a few other campers on the field. We had a great welcome by Kate and got some fresh eggs for breakfast! Thank you very much!

We had a great overnight stay. Easily accessed, just off the Princes Hwy in Cabbage Tree Creek. Kate and Evan are great hosts with Evan greeting us on arrival to show us a suitable camping spot for our caravan. The site area is lovely and grassed. There was plenty of space between campers and it was super quiet at night, no highway noise to disturb. Lovely listening to so many different types of birds as the sun was going down. There are local sites to explore in the area, but we used this as an overnight stop. Will definitely stay here travelling through the area again.

Kate and Evan are great hosts and provide a well kept rural site that is convenient to the highway. The setting is pretty and the animals are friendly. We stayed here to access cape conran, a 12 minute drive away.
