Equestrian sites
Gallop in! Some sites cater to Hipcampers on horseback.
Enjoy the serenity! Bring your horses and your dog, bring your guitar, a good book, even bring a golf set and a bucket of balls. You will have 80 acres of stunning country all to yourselves. Only one booking taken at a time. No one else will be anywhere near! Self-contained campers only, please bring in what you need, and take all waste with you. Base price covers up to 8 people, with capacity capped at 12 people. The land is characterised by rolling hills, covered by mostly open grassland, with patches of gum trees for shade, and a dam and creek. There's also a native eucalypt forest right across the road with miles of fire trails for walking and horse riding. In the cooler months, the land turns from shades of gold to greens. There are no facilities, its just you and the land (bliss!) so ensure you have everything you need with you, and take all your waste when you leave. If you fancy fresh fish for dinner, just down the road is Tuki Trout Farm, or nearby Cairn Curran Reservoir and Tullaroop Reservoir are great for fishing. The tourist villages of Newstead, Clunes and Maldon are all a short drive away, and Daylesford is just 35km drive. Campfires are permitted when fire bans are not in place.

Lees Bush - daytime recreation

RV/tent site · Sleeps 20 · Vehicles under 60 m
Daytime. Daytime. Daytime. Not overnight!! Sorry!! Normally $79. For a while $5 for daytime camping. I can't seem to change the check in and out. You can arrive anytime say after 10am and leave before 11pm. Why? Bizarre Government Red Tape. Obstructive bureaucracy that achieves nothing useful. Owing to the bizarre attitude of the council and state government (they blame each other) the paddock is a daytime playground only (an experiment which no one has taken up yet). I expect a lot of Hipcamp hosts might have the same problem. For sleeping - or entirely free camping - just go over the road!! No views but the State Forest is free! There is a little clearing down Heagney's track near a dam (the dam is private property but you will see the fence). Link for State Forest Camping: www.vic.gov.au/camping If you think it is a bit crazy - camping ok on one side of the road but not the other, please express your thoughts to steve.dimopoulos@parliament.vic.gov.au. Copy me would be appreciated: John@culvenor.com. More about Lees Bush if you do want it for daytime use: The booking button says per "night" but it is per "day". Enjoy the serenity! Bring your mountain bikes and your dog, even bring a golf set and a bucket of balls, fly a drone, etc. Make a nice fire to sit around (not overnight). You will have 80 acres of stunning country all to yourselves. Only one booking taken at a time. No one else will be anywhere near! For mountain biking there is a good variety of terrain. Relatively flat areas and some steep. The land falls 60m over about a distance of say 900m if you rode from the high point to lowest (at the creek). But there is a flatter area at the top say 300-400m long for more gentle rides. Base price covers up to 8 people, with capacity capped at 12 people. There are no facilities, its just you and the land so ensure you have everything you need with you, and take all your waste when you leave. Fires are permitted when fire bans are not in place. Stonebridge Valley

RV/tent site · Sleeps 8 · Vehicles under 60 m
Stonebridge valley is a big gorge. You will be reasonably well sheltered from wind - and crowds! A peaceful place only broken by the crackling campfire, your banjo and conversations. Cooee calls will work very well. And yodeling. Phones not so much. Plenty of fallen wood for a campfire for warmth, cooking, enjoyment and smoke signal communications (wood not for taking away). Fires of course all subject to the season and CFA rules at the time. If it is sunny the south slope should be the sunny side. There are not a huge number of flat spots. Plenty that are flatish. Would suit experienced campers who know how to select a good position. It is very rocky way up high on the slopes, less so in the valley. Stonebridge is a little stone ford in the paddock. There are plenty of bumps and a few rocks into the valley. There's no rushing river to catch a trout or wash you away. Just a little stream that runs basically only while raining. Access is by genuine 4WD only via a few hundred meters off road, walking speed, best with a person walking ahead or walk it first if you are on your own. Daylight movements only in any vehicle. Getting there? Look for Deep Creek Road on your map. For detail look at the little map posted with the photos.

Open Plains Camp

RV/tent site · Sleeps 11 · Vehicles under 60 m
We offer wide-open farmland for you to spend several nights under the stars, away from it all. You'll have fifty acres all to yourself. Self-contained campers only, please bring in what you need, and take all waste with you. Many people have been to the “Lees Bush” site and several to “Stonebridge”. These are hilly landscapes with many scattered gum trees, a mix of open land and Australian bush. All of the user posted photographs and reviews are about these sites. “Open Plains” is an idea I set up for people who might want something very different. Type -37 point 178793, 143 point 920621 into Google Maps (point means decimal. The site was intended to be on the east side of Swamp Road. It is a very different landscape to the other sites. It is flat farmland with few if any trees. Not much shade – basically none! I might not be selling it too well!
