Stooge Farm is located on the banks of the beautiful Tuluminakali (Mersey) River, 50 mins from Launceston airport, and 40 minutes from the Devonport Ferry Terminal. Stooge Farm is a secluded hideaway from the rest of the world, located at the at the end of a country lane, in a protected valley surrounded by state forest. The property is partly cleared and partly forested and is situated on, and surrounded by, a bend in the Mersey River in the shadow of Tulumpanga (the Gog Range). Stooge Farm is home to abundant wildlife including wallabies, echidna, wombats and a healthy population of platypus which can often be sighted at dusk along the river. Embrace rest, swimming, canoeing, fishing, barbequeeing, bushwalking, birdwatching in the lost world of Stooge Farm Tasmania Only 20 minutes from the lovely regional town of Deloraine where you can stock up on supplies, enjoy a good coffee and the many amenities and historic streetscapes. It is a great launching place for all kinds of nature-based activities such as bushwalking, white-water rafting, rock-climbing, mountain biking and more. Cradle Mountain, the Great lake, the upper Mersey Valley, the Western Tiers and extensive World Heritage wilderness areas are all within an hour or so of Stooge Farm. Stooge Farm is located in its own peaceful valley along the Mersey River and has some of the best fishing, swimming and kayaking opportunities you could find anywhere. There are numerous campsites along the riverbanks, as well as beautiful walks along the river. Stooge Farm is a safe and secluded place away from the hustle and bustle of the mad modern world. As well as camping, it is also available to rent for a variety of purposes; as the ultimate fishing retreat, for wedding, birthday and other significant life events, as a yoga, meditation and lifestyle retreat, or simply the ultimate holiday destination. This is such a special place that you really need to come and experience it for yourself to believe it. We await your visit. *Some important notes before you book: - Campers must have their own toilet and must remove all waste and rubbish. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed at all time. - River water is available but drink at own risk. - We recommend a strong vehicle, and a 4WD when towing caravans as the road in is steep. - This is a quiet peaceful place, and to respect the wildlife and other campers we have a strictly no generators, amplified music or unnecessary noise. We will have to ask you to remove your dog if it barks. - Please exercise extreme caution with fires as we are in a high risk area. Keep your fire small and in the fireplaces provided; put your fire out if there is no one attendance. No fires during windy conditions or days or fire ban. It is your responsibility to monitor and assess local conditions and fire regulations.

Beautiful camp site along the big shingle covered "beach" created after the floods of 2016. Scattered Prickly Box, Blackwood and Black wattle around a generous site with plenty of room for your tent, and multiple vehicles. Open fireplace and plenty of peace and quiet. Sit around the fire or fall asleep to the soothing sound of the river, see a platypus at dusk, savour the bird chorus at dawn and just be here.

Lovely open camp on a gentle bank facing a long even rapid run of the Tuluminakali (Mersey) River. Drive right up to the river and settle in, with a fireplace and view across to the hidden Eel Hole Creek, an important breeding ground and habitat for what's left of the endangered Giant Tasmanian Freshwater Lobster. All campers need to be fully self-contained, with their own camp toilet, and take all waste when they go.

Club Med is a generous site with plenty of room for a couple of tents and multiple vehicles. Open fireplace looking out to the river only a few metres away Sit around the fire or fall asleep to the soothing sound of the river, see a platypus at dusk, savour the bird chorus at dawn and maybe even see a sea eagle patrolling the river. Like its name sake, it features secluded beach access. Ok maybe the beach is shingles instead of golden sand but the peace and tranquility is unmatched!

A long open flat with plenty of room for larger groups, this area is grassy and offers plenty of room for multiple vehicles and setting up a nice comfy camp. Very quiet and offers great views of Tulumpanga (The Gog range). The flats are on the lee side of Stooge Hill and offer shady sites in the afternoon. We take several bookings at one time on Serenity Flats, but there is plenty of space to spread out and still find your own private nook. All campers must be fully self-contained with their own camp toilet, and take all waste when they go.

Big Hole Bend

Big Hole bend is a stunning site as the Tuluminakali (Mersey) turns from a long deep hole north and into a long gentle rapid. This site is shady, peaceful and very special as Platypus are active here. Therefore we encourage quiet camping and smaller groups where possible. There are numerous good tent sites here, all within earshot of the river. There is a turning circle for smaller vehicles. All campers must be fully self-contained, with their own camp toilet, and take all waste when they go.

Shingle Beach is a quiet little pull through site for a couple of vehicles, on a terrace looking out to the river only a few metres away. Shaded by a couple of Cottonwoods and thicket of wattle, with more spaces nearby if you need them. Fall asleep to the soothing sound of the river, see a platypus at dusk, savour the bird chorus at dawn and maybe even see a sea eagle patrolling the river. Secluded river access. Good swimming nearby.

Great place loved it ! Felt like we where totally away from it all didn’t see another person. We have three kids who saw platypuses went fishing bike riding kicked the football. Had to be a bit carful getting in and out but got an 18 ft. Caravan in a secluded spot next to the river

Big Hole Bend
My husband and I stayed one night here and we loved Big Hole Bend! We found it cosy and comfortable with a roof top tent and 270° awning set up. Richard’s instructions to get to the spot were detailed and easy to follow! We were the only ones in the campsite area, seeing plenty of platypus and listening to the river streams. Such a refreshing stay for our first night in Tassie

Easter retreat by the Mersey River

We really loved our stay at Stooge Farm. This was our second visit this year, and managed to catch a trout this time ! Despite it being Easter weekend the place was peaceful and didn’t feel busy at all. The crystal clear river is pristine with many platypus to spot. We enjoyed starlit nights by the fire and just warm enough for morning plunges in the river. We’ll be returning again soon. Many thanks Richard for sharing this special place.

Amazing campsite. It’s so good I don’t want to tell anyone about it, but secrets do no one any good. Beautiful surrounds, very quiet, campsites are spread apart well, great swimming holes and so much more. Richard is a legend!

Secluded camping, heaps of room to set up camp away from other campers. High lights were listening to the sound of the river close by down the hill, the views of the mountain and river from our camp made it pretty special, especially on a clear night where we could stare up into a sky full of stars. Husband caught a trout in the river and I was brave enough to have a little drip which was very refreshing in the middle of the day. Richard was super friendly, came to say hi to us on our second day, he was also very accommodating and responsive to our booking and refunds as we had to change dates and amend at last minute. We would love to visit again, kids loved the experience.

We stayed at Stooges farm for 7days at the "Club Med" campsite and it was one of the most enjoyable camping experiences we've had. Camped by the Mersey river with wildlife including platypus eagles other birds and wallabies. Even though it was very dry the river was still running sufficiently to Kayak a kilometer or so including small rapids. Thank you Richard for making your property available. We will be back. Peter

Big Hole Bend
Beautiful peaceful private location only 20 minutes from home! Platypus, Sea Eagles and Wedge Tail Eagles! It rained on and off.. but we had awnings for shelter and a roaring fire. There were a few leaches around but to be expected so we made sure we had bushman’s spray and salt on hand.. and we only had a few to deal with. it’s Tassie weather so always be prepared. 3 out of the 4 of us even swam! Not me though ha ha

Stooge Farm is an absolute piece of Tassie paradise. We loved our stay, kids fished in the river, was so peaceful and beautiful and highly recommend Richards slice of heaven. We will definitely be back.

Second stay at Stooge Farm, it’s a great spot and the host took our booking at last minute notice. Close to the beautiful river, peaceful and quiet spot. Very private from the other camp sites. Highly recommend staying here.

We loved our stay at Stooge Farm. We stayed at Club med and the little oais by the river was epic. With hot days every day the kids lived in the river and we enjoyed the sounds of the local wildlife. No phone service at camp was also a blessing. Felt like we was a million miles away. We can't wait to come back.

We recently camped at Stooges Farm at the Club Med site. A lovely peaceful spot beside the river, nice to relax with a wine and enjoy the tranquillity and abundant wildlife. Richard is responsive to my questions I had prior to booking, a nice host to communicate with. Looking forward to returning.

The Best Wilderness Retreat

Wow ! Richard’s place is sublime. Beautiful crystal clear river for swimming , fishing , kayaking and stunning backdrop views. It is a true wilderness retreat. Richard is a very friendly and interesting bloke to chat to . We didn’t want to leave ! I reckon we’ll be back soon.

Very peaceful spot by the river where we swum, watched wallabies and had a fire pit. Follow Richard’s instructions rather than Google map coordinates as we got misled and ended up in a pine plantation first off.

We had an amazing 2 night stay at serenity flats our site was secluded and big enough for our van (20ft) and friends camper van although in wet conditions these sites would have limited access and require 4x4. Also there was some old fencing wire in the longer grass so a thorough inspection of the site is recommended. There is ample fire wood located around the property and easy access to the river for swimming and fishing. Directions were easy to follow keeping in mind the roads have active forestry operations gravel surface but in good condition, we suggest coming in from Kimberley rather than Sheffeild. Our telstra reception was only just enough to get text messages out and in but this was not a problem when you are surrounded by the peace and tranquillity that this place has to offer. Top spot would highly recommend to anyone wanting privacy and everything the Tassie bush has to offer.

Nothing fancy except the water frontage and watching Sea Eagles hunt along the river. Plenty of spots to camp at each of the locations at Stooge Farm all with excellent river access. Great spot for fly fishing with many clear banks or simply swimming the Mersey River. We didn't bring our doggos in the end, but they would have loved it.

This is such an awesome spot. We were lucky to have the place to ourselves for a night and only one other set of campers around on night 2. So peaceful, quiet and right near the river. Serenity Flats has plenty of flat areas you can set up. Lots of wildlife around. Richard is very helpful and friendly. Dogs had a ball. We will be back!

The place is perfect, very secluded and pure nature sounds. The stars are beautiful at night and the moon is stunning. Beautiful foggy chill sunrises. And… We’ve got to see a platypus swimming and that’s the most adorable thing!

The flat grassed site was great for tent camping. The location was beautiful. The sites are spaced out well to provide good privacy from each other. Our dog loved swimming in the river.

Just what we needed, our own lil patch of privacy! Fishing wasn’t kind to us this trip, Dusty track on way in so go nice and slow Richard guided us to our spot once we arrived, we took a 17 ft van, track winds through a bush setting, I thought getting out might be tight but didn’t pose an issue at all! Lovely lil spot, we will be back

Excellent weekend stay at Eel Hole View - pulled up along side the river on the drive through site, after a little level up work and rolling the mat out across the recently cleared ground we were set, awning out, fire lit and beer in hand - Spent most of the second day down by and in the river. A Sea Eagle greeted us perched across the river on pack up morning and there are always plenty of fish jumping in the river. The amount of insect life, birds and wallabies is amazing (including healthy looking huntsman spiders) - highly recommend for a weekend break. There is no phone service which makes it even better to switch off and enjoy the surroundings.

We had the best time at Stooges Farm, at the Camp Cleret camp site. This site had its own access directly to the riverstone beach and river. Although the other sites were full, it felt really private. The scenery and serenity is second to none. Even with young children, the natural boundaries of the site, made it feel safe and secure. We will definitely stay again.
