On our 500 acre property we have a small area which is currently available for camping whilst our riding school horses enjoy their summer spell.
With scenic views of the mountain Gai-i, there is a hot shower, flushing toilet and camp fire area with a Brazilian style wood BBQ and a gas BBQ.
We are only a 15 minute drive from the beach town of Yeppoon, which is also the gateway to The southern Great Barrier Reef and fringing reefs of Great Keppel Island.

Mt Wheeler Farmstay offers a peaceful retreat where guests can enjoy seclusion and the beauty of nature, surrounded by horses, wallabies, and a clear night sky. Many visitors appreciated the privacy, hot showers, and the friendly host, Madeline. However, some guests noted issues with uneven camping grounds and confusion with facilities. Overall, it's a great spot for those seeking tranquility and a touch of wildlife during their camping experience.
Yeah, no. Never paid $50 bucks to camp in unleveled horse paddock ever, and hopefully won’t ever again. No hot water. In fact, no running water at all. May as well camped in the local forest. Thanks for the stay, but I could do the same in my backyard for free.
Nice out of the way site, with toilet and hot shower.
We had the place to ourselves thankfully as I think it would be a bit awkward with another camper if you didn’t know them. But we like our privacy.
But lovely spot, horses in the paddock beside. Lots of little Roos. Quite. The spot under the poinsettia trees is flat. The other potential spots not so flat for van.
Mt Wheeler Farmstay was a fabulous campsite. It was well set up and very private. We loved the big fireplace. Madeline is a super friendly and helpful host. We will be very disappointed if we can't stay here next time we are in the area.
This has been our favourite hipcamp so far. We had the place to ourselves. We were surrounded by the silence of the bush. The night sky was magical. We were even greeted by the horses when we arrived. Madeline was helpful with my queries. We would definitely stay again.
Had a wonderful night at Mt Wheeler Farm Stay - very peaceful, Madeline was helpful - good facilities and the horses and tree frogs were a bonus. Definitely recommend if you value privacy and serenity.
Lovely quiet private location, away from traffic, away from houses. Lots of bird life, horses & donkeys loved the apples we shared. Toilet & shower available. Perfect spot to relax.
Beautiful area with the mountains looming in the background. Wide open space for star gazing and lawn games. Wish we had gotten a chance to use the fire bbq, but unforeseen circumstances caused us to cut our stay here short - but what a lovely afternoon/evening we had!
Beautiful, quiet farmstead. Horses and donkeys close by.
Shaded sight with big fireplace for cooking. Washing and bathroom facilities. Great directions, beautiful night sky.
What a beautiful spot! We camped under the trees the first 2 nights, and then were invited by Madeline to move under the shed because of the weather for the last two nights, which we were very grateful for! Super friendly hosts, helpful facilities including a hot shower and a great cooking area. Kids loved the open space and seeing the horses and kangaroos each day.
This site was a really nice location with great facilities, the hot showers were really good. We had a little rain but the covered area with the fire place made this a non issue with Madeline being a great host.
We never met the owners, if we had that would have made a difference. We found getting to the farm quite difficult- going down a narrow dirt road with no signage on the way. We had to turn the van around with great difficulty. The web page said there was 2 toilets, one inside and one outside, and a shower. We found a toilet on the side of the large shed next to the fireplace. The bunkhouse was not locked and we found a shower in there. But when we got back after a visit to town we found the bunkhouse had been locked. We looked around again looking for a shower but we found nothing. We suspect the shower and toilet was locked up behind the bars near the fireplace.
It was a very peaceful place to stay.
Lovely campground with access to hot showers and flushing toilets. The hosts are so kind and easy to deal with. If we’re ever up this way again we will definitely be camping here again.
Beautiful campsite and property, we had a great time and were very comfortable. There were kangaroos and wallabies! The facilities were great - hot shower and toilets available. The hosts were lovely. We will definately come back to this camp.
