Located 25km north from Bundaberg Qld and Bargara is just 39km away with approximately 2km of saltwater river frontage, we offer fishermen a choice of walking the sand flats on the making tide to launching their boat at our ramp giving access all the way to the river mouth. With a large camp area, limited numbers taken, we offer peace and tranquility for those wanting to escape the crowds. Our charges are per person not site to make it more economical for those travelling alone or for those with large vans/motor homes that take up larger spaces. - Check in and out is flexible to suit individual needs - Portable water available - Dump Point located at entrance - Rubbish bins/recycle station provided at camp site and Dump point site. - Boat Ramp access on site 4WD access required - Porta Loos - Bush shower on site (gold coin donation appreciated) - Dogs allowed - but must be contained within your site and are to be kept on a lead at all times. -Drinking water on siteLarge flat grassed sites with absolute water frontage. The Kolan River is the perfect place to have a dip for the adults and kids with plenty of shallow areas and small swimming holes at low tide. Kolan River Retreat includes our very own private boat ramp (4WD access). Here you can drop the boat or kayaks in, grab your fishing rods and explore the Kolan. There is access to potable water, rubbish facilities, toilets and showers (it's a bush shower on site and a gold coin donation is appreciated to cover the water costs). If you have your own camping toilet, you can dispose of grey water at the dump point, located at the entrance. Dogs are welcome to camp with you but must be contained within your site and are to be kept on a lead at all times. There is access to drinking water a non-drinking water is available for washing down of boats etc. under pressure (please note there may be an occasional interruption due to maintenance). With approximately 2km of saltwater river frontage we offer fishermen the choice of walking the sand flats on the incoming tide, or you can launch your boat at our ramp giving you access all the way to the river mouth. With a large camp area, limited numbers taken, we offer peace and tranquility for those wanting to escape the crowds. Check in and out is flexible to suit individual needs.

We had a very relaxing stay at Kolan River Retreat, from the time we arrived right through to unfortunately having to leave this spot. We met Peter at the gate and he gave us all the info we needed for our stay, Peter is a gentleman and keeps his property very well maintained. We selected our campsite and set up for 6 nights on a beautiful shaded grassy spot next to the river, we loved that we were able to wonder around our site bare feet on the grass. Being there through the week it felt as though we had the place to ourselves. The weather was quite warm while we were there but, there was a beautiful breeze blowing through that made our stay even more pleasant. Did I mention the big night sky…beautiful!

Peaceful weeke
Kolan River Retreat
We really enjoy our trips to Kolan River Retreat, even though they are brief . It’s has always been peaceful and quiet , even though we were there at the start of school holidays . The birds in the morning are lovely to wake up to and listening to the owls talk to each other at night is just beautiful if you are lucky enough to hear them. Don’t forget the sandfly repellant though …..

Kolan River Retreat
We enjoyed camping on the Kolan River Retreat. Great spot. Nice level sites and plenty of room, we could pick where we wanted to be and were not ontop of each other. The Facilities were lovely and clean. The Cows were lovely and friendly and our dogs loved the space. Hubby caught fish and boat access was good. All in all a wonderful spot to get away and see the stars at night. Fire pits provided were provided. (must have off the ground fire pits) Fire wood was only $10 a bag.

Peter and Melinda were so easy to deal with when booking. When we arrived they were away but still spoke with us on how to enter the property. Their care takers were so lovely and the whole place was very well kept. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back again!

A truly beautiful spot, you can camp by the ramp which a few people were doing or if you want a bit more private you can take your pick of some beautiful spots up further along. Peter the host met us at the gate and explained all to us (very easy). Magic spot!!!

Kolan River Retreat
Beautiful river front property. The amenities were the cleanest we have seen! There’s even a dump point on site. There’s fogs firewood available from the neighbours. The only drawback was the campsites aren’t quite as river front as it looks. You have to either go to the boat ramp or through the mangroves to get to the river. Communication from Peter was great and very easy to deal with. All in all a great property that we will return to.

Beautiful property with with plenty of site options. Facilities provided are excellent. Peter is a wonderful host. He is very thorough at check in to ensure you get the best out of your stay. Bonus having a dump point also. Highly recommended

They were very lovely and accommodating. There is plenty of space to park. Set against a beautiful river which you can fish in and cows walking through the property. We’ve a.ready recommended to a few people.

The campsite was beautiful. It was quite spacious, although you could see other campers nearby. It's not too bad unless you wanna be completely secluded. Very limited access to the river, you have to go-between the mangroves and get quite muddy. but all in all it was a nice get away with the dogs. Peter, the host is lovely and very informative and friendly. 😊 The cows are so curious and get very close to your campsite but are very quiet. p.s. toilets and showers are in great condition. 👍

Peter met us on arrival and was extremely welcoming. Beautiful location and lots of open space to set up. Stunning views of the sunset and sunrise. Clean amenities and a lovely warm shower. Will definitly be back.

Loved it! Heaps of space, plenty of choices. The views were magic - we were there in ‘winter’, so beautiful sunny days, nights by the camp fire (provided) and gorgeous foggy mornings! What more could we ask for? Close to the boat ramp gave us fishing access and water views! Five stars all around! Peter was very obliging and don’t forget to have cash ready in your way in for a bag or two of firewood!

Fantastic spot on the Kolan river. Property was exceptionally well maintained, toilets and showers very accessible and with plenty of space to choose from. Majority of the river is lined with mangroves so we positioned our selves closer to the boat ramp to throw a few lines in. A few fish caught but if you have a boat bring it!!!! Peter came down the day after to check us in. He is very pleasant, gracious and welcoming. If we are in the area again we will be sure to stop over.

What a stunning location to stay. We had the most wonderful week, it was so hard to leave! Showers and toilets were fantastically maintaining and an appreciated amenity. We will definitely be back ! Plenty of space and lots of flat for convenient set up for our camper. Our pups loved going for walks around the property and husband loved the fishing from his kayak. Very highly recommend staying!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We stayed at Kolan River Camp with our family of five and some close friends and had the best time. It’s a peaceful, scenic spot with beautiful wildlife all around. The kids had an absolute blast fishing and searching for crabs along the river – they were entertained for hours! There are toilets and showers available on-site (gold coin donation appreciated), which was a great bonus and kept things comfortable. Plenty of space, a relaxed vibe, and a great spot to unwind and enjoy nature with family and friends. Highly recommend!

Really lovely spot. Very relaxing, heaps of room for the kids to run around. Safe as there isn't heaps of cars driving around and camp spots are buffered from the river by mangroves. Lovely owners too.

Peter is a very responsive host. Very helpful on check in and told us where to go with easy instructions. Amenities are well maintained with clean shower and toilet. A gold coin donation is appreciated if using the showers as there is hot water with a 5 minute timer to avoid excess water usage 🙌 Property is well maintained as well with short grass and plenty of space to explore. On a clear night, you have a beautiful display of the stars, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Wished we could've stayed for longer!

We had an awesome stay here! The host Peter was friendly & met us at the gate to give us all the info we needed for an enjoyable stay. Great firewood at $10 a bag, dump point, hot shower & portaloos! We will be back for sure 😁
