Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.
Set in the heart of North Queensland, Big Crystal Creek Ranch Camping offers a peaceful, family-friendly escape just off the highway in Mutarnee. Spread across 80 acres of natural bushland, open grassland, and tropical forest, the property provides spacious campsites where you can truly relax and reconnect with nature. Running for approximately one kilometre through the property, the stunning Big Crystal Creek is the highlight of your stay—with pristine water and year-round swimming holes perfect for cooling off, exploring, or simply unwinding by the water’s edge. Whether you’re travelling with family or friends, or just looking for a quiet getaway, there’s plenty to enjoy. Spend your days swimming, fishing, birdwatching, bushwalking, or paddling along the creek, or simply kick back in a camp chair and soak up the peaceful surroundings. With 17 campsites available, there is plenty of room to spread out. Sites cater to a range of camping styles, with easy access for all vehicles as well as more secluded 4WD-only options for those seeking a little extra adventure. Campfires are welcome, and guests are asked to follow our Camp Guidelines. Pets are also welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times. To help preserve the natural environment, we encourage a simple, low-impact camping experience. Campers should bring their own toilet facilities, and all rubbish must be taken with you when you leave. Please note that we will have a port-a-loo available for the Easter long weekend. We are also currently building a camp kitchen and toilet/shower amenities, which are scheduled for completion by September 2026. Conveniently located just minutes from local favourites like the Frosty Mango Café and close to natural attractions including Paluma National Park, Paradise Waterhole, and the nearby coastline, Big Crystal Creek Camping is the perfect base to explore the region—or simply stay put and enjoy everything right at your doorstep.

Closest to the private creek!

Creekside Camp 1
After staying one night at Site Seven, we decided to know closer to the private creek access. We ended up extending for two more nights as this place was just perfect! Another huge site, with a nice amount of shade under the trees, and still in earshot of the running water, which made for a very peaceful site, and sleep!

Creekside Camp 7
Big Crystal Creek Ranch was the perfect long weekend stay! We stayed at Site 7 which was tucked away in the corner. It was surrounded by rainforest canopy, bush, and one side was fenced, this meant we felt very cosy in the spot, and very private. Surprisingly, the site was enormous for just one car, you can see how large by looking at the photos. The site was also the closest to Mutarnee’s swimming creek which is usually accessible by car, so you’d share that area with the public. A short walk from Site 7 takes you to the private creek area, which is beautifully clear fresh water. There was an abundance of bird life and fish. At the time of staying, (01 May 2026) the site was a self contained site, though there are amenities being installed later in the year. The family run site was perfect for families and travellers with dogs, or couple and friends looking for a quiet get away on a truly magical piece of land. We had a delivery of drinking coconuts from the owners, and we hung out with their gorgeous, friendly dog, Harley, for most of our time at the creek! We will absolutely be back, this site is something special!
