Located only 8 miles from Hocking Hills State Park, Altenbrauch Farm features 62 acres of open fields, small streams and wooded hills intersected by a lonely country road.  Aside from our house, there are no neighbors in sight.  Easily pitch your tent in an open field or trek through the hills and hollows to find your perfect campsite. As part of Ohio's famous Hocking Hills Region, Vinton County is home to the second largest state forest, in addition to multiple state parks and wildlife areas. You’ll encounter abandoned historical sites and relics dating back to the early 1800s, hidden away among the wooded hills of Ohio’s least populated county. If you're a lover of outdoor recreation, this is the place to be. Within about a half-hour drive, there are many opportunities for hiking, biking, horseback riding, kayaking, hunting and fishing, and birding.  Nearby parks and forests include Hocking Hills State Park, Hocking Hills State Forest, Lake Hope State Park, Zaleski State Forest, the Moonville Rail Trail, Lake Alma State Park, Tar Hollow State Forest, and more! Set up camp wherever you like!  There are 12 acres of open field space, surrounded by 50 acres of wooded hills and hollows with hiking trails and level spots to pitch tents. Vehicles can be driven to the field sites; we are still working on a road to access the hill sites by vehicle.  The fields have about a dozen "permanent" sites with stone or metal fire rings and log seating.  Portable fire rings are also available that can be moved anywhere.  Dead wood for campfires is free to gather, or split firewood is available to purchase for $5/bundle. A toilet and solar shower are located at the center of the property. An outdoor water spigot is also available. Guests are expected to follow the "Leave No Trace" principles. Any trash packed onto the property must be bagged and taken with you.

The Property & Campsites • Spacious Options: Choose from 12 acres of accessible, open meadow or explore 50 acres of deep woods with secluded trails and level primitive spots. • Easy Access: Standard vehicles can easily access field perimeters, while 4WD vehicles or hike-in campers can venture deeper into the hills. • Fire-Ready Setup: Suggested sites feature established fire rings and log seating. Portable fire rings are also available to move to your preferred spot. • Campfire Wood: Gather fallen dead wood across the property for free, or buy dry, split firewood bundles for $5 at the Camp Store. The Space Honeysuckle Cottage is designed as a comfortable, no-fuss basecamp for outdoor enthusiasts, couples, or small families looking to unplug without pitching a tent. • Sleeping Arrangements: One full-size bed and one full-size mattress in the loft space. (Note: Guests bring their own bedding; see details below). • Climate Control: Stay comfortable in any season with a window air conditioner, fan, and propane/electric heaters. • Furnishings & Extras: A compact table with chairs for meals or trail planning, plus a selection of board games for quiet evenings. • Power & Essentials: Standard electrical outlets for device charging and an electric Keurig coffee maker and microwave to kickstart your morning. Super big site with a lot to do! The camp check-in/store was super cute and helpful. The creek was perfect for wading (with shoes - there’s some broken glass). Even though it was pretty busy over the weekend, our spot still felt private. Thanks for the stay!

Land was very nice and peaceful, and there were lots of good places to camp. Bathroom and shower were nice, water was pretty cold, although I didn’t try to wait for the hot water. Check-in packet with directions was extremely useful as there’s no service at all.

It’s a beautiful property!! We pulled in at night so didn’t really get a chance to see it till morning. Had coffee by the creek and it was so peaceful. The campstore is an awesome feature!! So clever & thoughtful!! Wish we had more time to enjoy it!!

Caleb’s land was awesome! Our site was perfect for tent camping! There was lots of room and shade throughout the day. There was a creek for the kids to play in. There was lots of room in between our campsite and the one next to us, and actually in general all the campsites seemed to have a good amount of space between them. The porta potty was clean. Self check-in and instructions/ camp rules were super easy and there is a map of the place that is very easy to follow. We will totally come back!

I had a lovely stay at Honeysuckle Cottage at Altenbrauch Farm. The location was beautiful and peaceful, and it was a great place to relax and enjoy the surrounding area. I really enjoyed my time here and would happily recommend it to friends. I’d definitely come back!

The small cabin made it very enjoyable. The 2 of us along with a dog managed well. The AC worked well, the Keurig and Microwave we didn't use. We had planned on cooking over the firepit though by the time the day was done we were too exhausted to start the fire and let the dog run in the soaked muddy ground from all the rain over the past 2 weeks. The self-checkin made it easy along with the colored map to find the cabin. The solar shower I didn't get a chance to use. Only once did I hear the neighbors and that was when I let the dog out late at night. To avoid the rain, the small cabin made it worth it.

We really enjoyed camping here! The campsites are very spacious and private, and the porta potty was kept clean. Having a shower available was also a huge plus after long days of hiking. There weren’t many other groups camping while we were there, so we never had an issue waiting to use the restroom. I could see that potentially being a little inconvenient if the campground were full or there were several large groups staying at once. Our only real wish was that there had been a place to dispose of trash on-site, but we definitely appreciated that they provided a trash bag at check-in. Overall, we had a great experience and would absolutely stay here again. Just make sure to bring bug spray, it does get pretty buggy, but that’s to be expected when camping during the summer!

We loved camping here. It all starts when you pull up to the self check-in / camp store. The store offered a variety of things to enhance your trip and had maps of the land and trails associated. The property was well maintained and all the sites had access to the stream running through the property. The trails were fun to hike on (be prepared for the rapid elevation changes) and the road running along the front of the property was pretty limited use and quiet. We will definitely be back.

We loved our time here! Calm, peaceful, no signal but that was nice to unplug. As they suggest definitely save the directions and details ahead of time. It was nice to have the option to buy things from the little shack at the entrance too. For a porta potty, very clean. Pretty buggy around dusk, but you are along a creek. Had a nice time!

We had a wonderful time here. It was spacious and clean and peaceful. The directions from Google were accurate. Limited cell service on T-Mobile. The field was mowed and well cared for. Bugs were moderate at night but we didn't notice any major issues with biting flies or mosquitoes. It was mostly just moths and gnats and the kinds that buzz around your head. We were a little surprised/disappointed that there was not a dumpster or other waste disposal option available on site. We had to travel a fairly long distance with garbage bags on the car to "pack it out". Our particular campsite had lots of broken glass and aluminum cans in the fire pit that we had to cleanup and haul out.

Altenbrauch farm was mostly a dream spot. I happened to be the only one there and it was private, and quiet-- save for a few vehicles on the gravel road from time to time and their mowing. I had a shaded spot next to a shallow water course which was excellent given the heat.

They have everything they put in the description. Had 4 dogs and they had space to roam near my site and nice that you can choose your own site also. Has plenty of shade and the fire ring was nice. Keep in mind had barely no cell service(At&t) but was very relaxing to not have your phone going off all the time. Will definitely stay here again!!

We had a great time on Caleb’s land! It rained for 4 days straight but the ground held up. We had no issues with mud or getting stuck. Great place to go if you want privacy, access to trails, and many fireflies! Definitely plan on returning.
