If you've ever wondered what it might be like to camp on the moon, this is it. Completely removed from civilization and surrounded by a barren nature that is alive with the subtle presence of the universe. Seasonally, Spring wildflowers burst across the landscape. Cave paintings of Chumash Indians at Painted Rock remind us of those who lived before us. **Read on for more details.** This is our home but we love to share our life in the outback. We believe it will give you a better appreciation of life's simpler side. That being said, and to maintain the balance here at home, we'd appreciate if you keep your dogs in your car until you get to your site. Our offerings include fresh air and sunshine, amazing night sky, endless views, and plenty of space and privacy to enjoy your moments in nature. You'll find our amenities and activities puposefully sparse here. Upon booking, there are about 5 miles of dirt road on the property that you are welcome to explore on foot or by bicycle. Rustic is the theme here. There is no shower, no wifi, and no electricity available, but you will enjoy your own private spigot and the cellular service is acceptable. For any sites located south of Ballinger Wash, your vehicle length is limited to 22' and no more than 4' overhang from the rear axle, so you don't get stuck in the crossing and block access for others. Towing services are 1-3 hours away. Our Songdog Camps are sparsely scattered atop a 200 foot mesa that looks west over a valley offering stunning desert sunsets and amazing stargazing. These UPPER SITES are NOT OHV friendly, but any of our canyon bottom sites are a great base for your riding adventures up in Ballinger Canyon OHV. We'll be happy to recommend a site for you. **Forest Service law enforcement is actively ticketing unplated OHV on Ballinger Canyon Road. Be sure to know and abide by the laws.** Our friendly cancellation policies vary between 24 hours for simple campsites and 72 hours for our Glamp sites and Group sites. Be sure to check the Google for distance to Cuyama Valley, and your dates for availability and site descriptions. A little further to the west, atop our 200 foot mesa, site 3 West is enjoys plenty of junipers for privacy and sits right on the edge overlooking the canyon, and valley to the west. This expanded campsite is similar to our simple Songdog Campsites only bigger! The shaded table area is twice as big and will accommodate 8 people easily. The Privacy is greater with the nearest campsite being 150 feet south. The site has more room for you and your friends to spread out. And last but not least, if features a campfire ring as well as a charcoal fired BBQ. It really is twice the site. The Mesa

**Plan well ahead for this one so you don't miss out** Imagine you and 64 of your best friends and family having the whole mesa, 200 feet up from the canyon bottom, to yourselves, overlooking the Cuyama Valley and surrounding mountains. This listing covers The Barbeque, Double Fire, Sites 1-3 East, Sites 1-4 West, Grand View, and Draw Camp. That's 11 sites in total! You'll still have to keep the decibels under control and quiet down by 10 pm as we'd like to continue having great neighbors. There is no electricity at any of the sites, but we do have a small generator available to rent to light up The Barbeque so you can see what you're cooking and maybe charge a couple of phones. **Sorry no buses or long RV's will make it up to the Mesa. Length limited to 22' and no more that 4' overhang from the rear axle. ** **Some folks like to stick around. Dubbed Frank's Site for the guy who would come and stay for a couple of weeks each year and win the regional HAM Radio competitions. It was quite the set up with an array of huge antennae set smack dab in the middle of the pasture and his Army surplus tent off to the side with all of the accoutrements of radio competion at hand. He has since moved on to a property of his own, but the name has stuck and we have many happy memories. This is one of the few sites that can fit a longer RV or Toy Hauler if you come in from the west end of the property. Pull off the road and get off the grid. This site is in the center of the ranch with a sizable spot to nestle your camping trailer or RV in a small group of trees. It is one of the few places around here where we can grow trees because, as the name implies, it is situated next to the water well that provides all the water for our little piece of heaven. This is a great spot for the kiddo's who are just learning to ride bicycles. The Glabin with the Views

There were many zipper malfunctions at the Glamp Tent, previously in this site, but we wanted to offer all of the the tent feels, all the views, with none of the midnight stuck zippers. We especially enjoy the inclusion our favorite wood stove from our childhood! We call it the Glabin…for the recycled architectural elements…glass, tent, cabin…you get it...and it’s just fun to say! **Sleeps four on two queens. Tepid tub, firewood, and kitchen basket included.** **Bedding not provided, so be sure to bring your sleeping bag! ** **OHV/Dirt bikes welcome at this site if you ride slow and on the roads on the property and straight to and from Ballinger Canyon OHV. You can brap all day long in Ballinger and then come back to a quiet evening around your campsite. **

Very cool place to camp. We had some pretty wildflowers right near our campsite. Had fun exploring the dry creek-bed. The cowboy tub was a fun addition! The soaring ravens and hawks were a treat to watch, as was hearing the "songdogs" (coyotes) at dusk and dawn. Was a great stop-over for a visit to Wind Wolves Preserve.

I have been camping at Songdog ranch several times and it’s been fantastic! This time I rented the pup dog cabin. It exceeded all expectations! Jim was gracious enough to greet us and make us feel right at home. The cabin had everything necessary to camp PLUS! I will definitely be staying at the cabin again! Thank you Jim and Jenny!

The best privacy I’ve ever had in a campground and I was lucky enough to be there during wildflower season with bright yellow, orange, and purple flowers surrounding me on all sides! The owner Jim, is a fantastic guy, a true rancher gentleman, and my site had a water faucet with a hose, a couple of beautiful white sun chairs for lounging, picnic table, garbage can and a clean portapotty nearby. I give this my highest recommendation and will be back many times to howl with the songdogs!

Dry Creek 2
The campsite is very secluded. When I first arrived I was unsure how to reach dry creek 2. Then, Jen (who was very nice) pointed me in the right direction. The campsite was clean and had a card with my name on it already posted, so I knew I was in the right spot. Driving up to the Carrizo national monument was about an hour drive through maricopa and taft to get to the most stunning views I have ever seen. Overall the campsite was simple but great! I saw another review regarding a trump flag being flown on the property. I completely understand how that can be upsetting for people who don’t support him and be a distraction from a vacation. I would feel the same way if I did see one, but I did not. Everyone was incredibly friendly and the property was very nice. 10/10 would recommend and I hope to be back soon!

Quiet weekend getaway
Pupdog Hill
This stay was amazing at Pupdog Hill! Such a wonderful glamping experience. We had views, fire, quiet, a kitchen, a puzzle, a flushing toilet. What more could you ask for? Thank you so much to our hosts for being so welcoming. We can’t wait to come back!

As for the house itself: we stayed there in mid-March, and the temperature dropped to +8°C overnight. The heater inside the house ran for about four hours—keeping things warm—but then it ran out of gas, and it became truly cold. The listing description stated that bed linens would be provided, yet there wasn't a single blanket in the house. We happened to have brought two sleeping bags of our own; had it not been for those, we would have frozen—100%. We were traveling with a child, and I was worried we might catch a cold. We ended up sleeping in our clothes. The thin metal walls of the "tank" structure retain absolutely no heat. As for dishes and firewood—there was plenty of both. We visited during the blooming season. In the morning, we went for a walk through the hills and counted 31 different species of wildflowers. We were very pleased with our stay!

Beautiful Ranch Escape with Amazing
Pupdog Hill
Our stay at Songdog Ranch in the Pup Dog cabin was absolutely wonderful. It truly felt like a home away from home with a perfect mix of comfort and glamping. The scenery is breathtaking—wide open views, peaceful surroundings, and incredible sunsets that made every evening special. One of our favorite parts was riding our bikes through the property during the day and then cooking BBQ at night while watching the sun go down over the hills. The ranch is quiet, relaxing, and the perfect place to escape city life and slow down for a few days. You can really tell this place is special and cared for. We loved reading the guest book and seeing how many people have enjoyed this ranch before us. We left feeling refreshed, grateful, and already talking about coming back. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful ranch getaway with unforgettable views.

This was a great campsite- at the top end of the campground - allowing privacy. great night skies and the host was extremely welcoming. a nice added bonus was the supplied sling chairs supplied at the site and a garbage can at the site.

This was our first time glamping and we couldn't have picked a better spot to go. The water tank was comfortable and cozy. The bed padding was wonderful and Jen the host was so nice and gracious. There is a 24 hour self serve store that has everything you can think of. When we got to our site, there was firewood, a basket with kitchen utensils and water ready for us to go. We were able to see a couple of shooting stars at night and listen to the coyotes howl. This was an unforgettable experience and we will be back.

This is a beautiful place. It was my second visit, and was just amazing this year because of previous rain (I think). There was snow on a nearby peak, green hills, wildflowers, happy birds: a paradise for nature lovers. I hated to leave and hope to return soon.

Glamp Tank site
My partner and I spent Valentine’s Day weekend at the Songdog Ranch in their water tank site. It was very private and the host, Jenny, was extremely accommodating! The site was stocked with an ample amount of firewood, drinking water, kitchen utensils/ cookware and chairs. It was quite cold in the evening, the water tank has a space heater that worked well in keeping the chill at bay. The road to the Hipcamp was extremely bumpy, just a heads up to those in low profile vehicles. We can’t wait to go back in the springtime!
