Dogs are very welcome.
The cottage is a converted shed, with three bedrooms, a lovely living area and a cosy closed woodfire. We have a sheltered outdoor area, where you can have a barbeque, or have a small fire in a firedish. The cottage is in the bush, so you can walk out and try to find our resident breeding pair of Lyrebirds, echidnas, wombats, wallabies and kangaroos or the deer that live in our 'back yard'. Or just roam, which shouldn't be too hard on 67 acres .
We are close to massive areas of bush with open trails. Dogs are very welcome- no cats.
As we live in the bush, we do our best to keep everything as 'green' as we can- so please don't use harsh chemicals.
Living in the bush brings with it that you cannot light a fire in fire danger periods, and, heating on a woodstove, means there is a hot stove in the room. (watch those little fingers...)
Our aim is to give you a place of rest and enjoyment. We love to share our space as we love it here so much- and hope you love it too.
As life is a project - don't expect 10* linen and luxury, state of the art gardens and clipped lawns, but a friendly welcoming atmosphere where you can be yourself and relax.
We love to have visitors, and chat for a bit- or leave you to relax. The cottage is on the edge of the bush, where you are welcome to roam on the tracks or off them- at your own risk :-)
We are both artists, and our studio's are close to the cottage, which might make some noise, but we'll try to keep it at a minimum when guests are here.
The upside is, you could learn something if interested :-) (contact us for workshops)
We have a working hobby farm- with some machinery, animals (pigs, dogs, horses, ducks and chickens).
You can interact with the animals if you talk to us about safety first, but the horse paddock is out of bounds. ( they can behave unpredictable, are very large (!) and very valuable)
Our dogs are very friendly and will most probably visit you. Our puppy still has lots to learn :-)
Our property is stock- fenced, our animals will stay in, but dogs are able to roam if they are not staying with you.
There is no secure yard to leave your dog during the day, you are expected to be in control of your dogs at all times. If they are ok with horses, chooks and dogs, and under voice command, they can be off leash.
Dogs are not to sleep on the beds.
We are a rural property with animals, and there are dams on the property, (not close to the cottage) so please keep an eye on children - we cannot take responsibility for your persons or animals.
Living on a farm means that not everything is neat, safe, flat or person-proof. Often there is actual work being done involving machinery. Coming here is entirely at your own risk. (sorry for all the disclaimers...)
But- of course- if there is anything we can do to make your visit more pleasurable, we will do our best to do so!

Great property, off grid with everything you could need to stay comfortable. We went with 3 kids under 12 who had a ball riding bikes, making a campfire, exploring and playing. Location is great and close to shops for any forgotten or last minute needs.
Early morning there were cows, kangaroos and sheep just on the other side of the fence.
Plenty of firewood and the hot shower was a great addition to the site.
Hosts were outstanding, clear communicators and incredibly welcoming and helpful in the lead up to arrival.

A great little private cottage located on the rear of the property with easy access to the forest walking trails. We enjoyed 3 nights of peace, serenity and the laughter of kookaburras. Our 4yo loved exploring and discovering native animals and bee hives nearby while our older teens loved the nightly outdoor and indoor fires and accompanying roasts and marshmallow s'mores. Kitchen was well equipped to handle family meal time and the indoor wood heater kept the cottage toasty all night. Recommended for anyone requiring the connection that stems from the disconnect of technology.

Fantastic hosts and beautiful property. We had such a great time building fires, cooking and watching out for the abundant wildlife, which included wombats, goats, kangaroos, sheep and a lovely cow who came down to the fence every morning. Highly recommend!

We had a lovely two days at this hut. We walked directly from the hut to Lyonville and Trentham with lunch at Trentham, an excellent day out.
The hut was clean, dry with plenty of wood, we were very warm.
The indoors composting toilet was easy to use and odour free.

Weekend Trip to Breakaway Twin Rivers Caravan Park
We stayed at Breakaway Twin Rivers Park last week in the 3 bedroom cabin. It was spacious, clean, comfortable and convenient. we really enjoyed our stay, Reception was so helpful and told us of the towns near by and also brought over our fire pit and wood. Very friendly and caring! The scenery was Amazing and we are sad we couldn’t get a spot for christmas time as it would be amazing. we are re booking in a few months to take our family. can’t wait to be back!! Amazing location

Our second stay at Paul's cabin, this time winter time. Cabin is cosy and we loved the fire place. We were allowed to take our little puppy that enjoyed stay in nature too. Beautiful and serenity.. place offer lot of to do - we walked some trails with historical values from Gold rush mining times. Cabin has everything that our family needed - beds, kitchen, bathroom with toilet and warm water.. 100% recommended for people who are looking for serenity, calmness and nature stay..

We loved our time at The Forrest Cottage. It was bigger than it looked in the pictures, and had everything we needed. Our kids loved sitting by the fireplace, and watching the wallabys and kangaroos jump across the property. It felt very private - the hosts Kelly and Erin were lovely and welcoming! I would highly recommend staying here!

We absolutely adored our stay at Paul’s miners cabin, would have happily stayed there indefinitely. It’s very charming and cute, we spend all weekend by the fire outside enjoying the bird sound and the stars, or inside in front of the fire with a wine. Would absolutely stay again in a heartbeat.

Really wonderful weekend escape. My partner and puppy and I enjoyed a farm stay here at Anne Maree's cute cabin. It had everything we needed and was easy to find, the farm grounds are huge and we couldn't even manage to walk the whole property! Friendly dogs on the farm that would visit us. The cabin it Esse was lovely and well presented, heating, comfy bed, kitchen with everything needed and am amazing bathroom with rain shower. The jacuzzi looked lovely but it was raining the entire stay, and it was not working anyway(the owner was extremely apologetic about this, and made up for it, by offering other alternatives and also made us home made scones, lamb shank soup and some other goodies, she didn't need to do this however Anne Maree was lovely and a proper host) this made us feel so comfortable and welcome and we already want to go back!! Hoping the rain is not there and the jacuzzi is fixed the next time we are there, Thankyou Ann Maree for a wonderful stay

Weekend Trip to Weemalah Cabin & Camping
Had the most serendipitous weekend at Anne-mare’s campsite, it exceeded already very high expectations.
The creek is stunning, and so fun for swimming, paddling floating, jumping off the rocks and (attempted) fishing.
The landscape is so beautiful, plenty of space for camping and so much to explore.
We also booked the cabin which was beautiful and the jacuzzi looking out on to the fields was such a delight!!
Anne-maree met us at the gate and was super lovely and comprehensive showing us around and being available if we needed.
Would 100% go back here!!

Weekend Trip to Rustic Miner’s Cabin
Beautiful peice of land very peaceful alot of wildlife to hear and see in the day and at night.
You are close to Castlemaine and a Reservoir which is so good on a hot day to swim or kayak in.
The miners hut itself has alot of history and is well kept we were surprised how cool it was despite hot temps. It would be very cosy in the winter I'm sure.
Bathroom is clean and every detail considered
You do share the bathroom with other campers guests in the Glamping tent, at the time these guest were very quiet so all good.
Communication with Paul was excellent we enjoyed meeting his friendly black lab.
