A self guided nature walk on the property provides you with an introduction to the local ecosystem. There is also a bird list for the property along with photos and descriptions of some of these birds. There is a makeshift bird hide and binoculars that you can borrow. The hut has a double bed (bedding provided), undercover of the veranda is a gas stove with two burners and a grill, outside a long drop toilet, water tank (not drinkable) but drinkable water will be provided. The hut is close to one of the dams. Only one booking at a time so you won’t be sharing camping site with anyone. Owners live on the property but out of view and ear shot. A picnic set, kettle, camp stove and saucepans available for use. Solar lights inside, internal wood heater outside fire pit. Note no shower. Basic amount of wood provided for internal heater and cost $10 milk crate of wood for external fire pit, a crate should last a couple of hours. Take the opportunity to explore the night sky with a large telescope. A guided 90 minute star gazing experience using 500mm diameter telescope is offered for $50/session to guests of the antechinus hut. Depending on the time of year you will see galaxies, nebulae, star clusters and planets. This is only offered when conditions allow, clear skies and minimal moon. Note this activity involves use of step ladder due to size of telescope. Beautiful little bush getaway nestled under the gum trees. The spot is peaceful, quiet, and full of things to learn about the surrounding land. The hosts were incredibly accommodating and even mapped out a walking route around the property, which was genuinely interesting. Highly recommend for anyone considering a visit. Plenty of wildlife, and the inside is super cosy with the wood-fired heater.

A great little private cottage located on the rear of the property with easy access to the forest walking trails. We enjoyed 3 nights of peace, serenity and the laughter of kookaburras. Our 4yo loved exploring and discovering native animals and bee hives nearby while our older teens loved the nightly outdoor and indoor fires and accompanying roasts and marshmallow s'mores. Kitchen was well equipped to handle family meal time and the indoor wood heater kept the cottage toasty all night. Recommended for anyone requiring the connection that stems from the disconnect of technology.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Sommerleigh! Gorgeous location that had everything we needed, nestled in nature and surrounded by so many birds. It felt intimate and private, perfect for a romantic weekend away. The wood stove was absolutely divine and rainy weather was no problem because it was so cosy rugged up indoors by the fire watching the rain through the big windows and hearing the rain on the tin roof. Jeff was lovely and made sure we knew everything we needed to know before leaving us to it. I highly recommend this special gem of a stay!

Jeff has spent an enormous amount of time and effort in creating this special place. With 158 different bird species, set amongst the wetlands, there is a theatre of wildlife only 90 minutes from Melbourne. The room is well appointed and many finer details often overlooked on your more tradition accommodation. Everything you need is provided, just remember to read the notes before hand as we failed to do, ie bring ice for the provided esky. It's combines the best attributes of a tiny house with plenty of space to cook, sleep, chill out and relax.

We had a lovely two days at this hut. We walked directly from the hut to Lyonville and Trentham with lunch at Trentham, an excellent day out. The hut was clean, dry with plenty of wood, we were very warm. The indoors composting toilet was easy to use and odour free.

Our second stay at Paul's cabin, this time winter time. Cabin is cosy and we loved the fire place. We were allowed to take our little puppy that enjoyed stay in nature too. Beautiful and serenity.. place offer lot of to do - we walked some trails with historical values from Gold rush mining times. Cabin has everything that our family needed - beds, kitchen, bathroom with toilet and warm water.. 100% recommended for people who are looking for serenity, calmness and nature stay..

Weekend Trip to Sommerleigh
My partner and I adored our weekend in this little slice of paradise! Tucked away on a tiny island in the middle of a billabong on Jeff's vineyard, it was pure peace. We were the only ones on the island, aside from many different birds. We loved waking up to their songs, and the sound of rain on the tin roof. No traffic, no other people, just nature and a beautifully quirky bushland garden dotted with old treasures. The setup was simple but magical, very clean and well maintained: two cosy tin shacks (bedroom and kitchen) plus a small loo shack with a flushing toilet! The bedroom was warm and snug with a fireplace and comfy double bed. BYO bedding. No mains power or fridge, so bring ice for the cooler and a battery pack to charge devices, though we barely touched our phones. The outdoor showers (one next to the bedroom, and one behind the kitchen) were surprisingly lovely, even in the rain, thanks to hot gas-heated water. Jeff was a friendly, funny, and accommodating host who welcomed us warmly even though we arrived a little late and in the dark. Bring a torch, hot water bottle, and warm layers in winter. Notes on accessibility: You'll need to carry all your belongings from the car over a narrow pier and gravel path, a 1-2 minute walk total, which is very doable if you're able-bodied, and Jeff said he can offer a wheelbarrow to help. A peaceful, grounding spot, perfect for bird watchers, nature lovers, and anyone wanting to truly switch off. We’ll definitely be back.
