Conveniently located between Launceston and Devonport, Buckbill Banks Camping offers a beautiful, level camping area overlooking Quamby Brook Creek.
The 35-acre property offers views of Quamby Bluff, and various options to explore and relax. Find yourself a nice quiet spot, where you can enjoy peace and quiet. Although we take several bookings at once, you are guaranteed a secluded nook, there is plenty of space.
There is a wood fired hot tub beside the creek, which all campers have access to. Imagine star gazing from the hot tub of an evening, or enjoying a morning soak whilst keeping your eyes peeled for the resident platypus in their natural habitat! Firewood is provided for the hot tub, you may buy wood on site for your individual campfires. The hot Tub is not for wild parties, but to relax and view the native wild life, quietly watch the platypus in their natural environment.
Please note, we accept one camper trailer/caravan per booking. If you are traveling in a group with multiple caravans, you will need to book multiple sites - but will still be able to camp close together although we dont allow big noisy, disruptive groups anymore! The property has good access for all types of vehicles.

The property has a house, shack, 2x A-Frame cabins, gardens and a dam. You access Valley's Nest via a separate driveway and is your very own private retreat that perches above it all.
Come and experience the beautiful sunrises and sunsets, wildlife and tranquility.
If you're looking for adventure, Bare Rock offers world class rock-climbing and is a short walking distance from Valley's Nest. If mountain-biking is your thing, Derby is an hour away, and 50mins to St Helens. And the exquisite East Coast beaches are 30mins away.
If it's rest and relaxation you're needing, we have you covered with stunning views from the cabin and fire-bath, reading materials and paints.
The cabin itself has a cosy wood stove heater, and is furnished with a double bed with pillows and a queen-sized doona. There is an undercover outdoor small kitchen with a 2 burner gas stovetop, basic kitchenware (with hand-held coffee grinder and aeropress), sink, solar lighting and rechargeable camping lanterns.
The toilet is a private eco-throne with a view to Bare Rock. It is composting and only a short walk from the cabin.
We provide you with wood for the indoor wood stove, an esky, bed linen, towels, tea-towels, basic kitchenware, cooking basics and toilet paper.
The kitchen sink and bath water comes from a spring fed dam, perfect for washing your dishes and bathing in. Please bring your own fresh drinking water.
Please note this is rustic accommodation, the cabin doesn’t have 240v, only a solar powered charging port with USB-A/C inputs to recharge the camping lanterns and your devices. You may wish to bring head torches for night time reading and card games!
There is no wifi available but there is strong mobile phone service.
Fingal is fondly known by the locals as "the Valley", and hosts several coffee and food vans for travellers passing through. Fingal is located just 15 mins to local township St Marys, where you'll find IGA Supermarkets and the popular pub/restaurant St Marys Hotel. Also the gold-prospecting rivers of Mathinna and Mangana are both short drives away.

Absolutely loved our stay. The wood-fired hot tub was next level and made the whole experience — nothing better after a day out. Bert is an absolute legend: welcoming, helpful, and always up for a good chat without being intrusive. The scenery is stunning, the place is spotless, and everything is clearly well cared for. Peaceful, well maintained, and exactly what a great camp stay should be. We’ll be back for sure.

Weekend Trip to Valley's Nest
I stayed here only one night which is not enough to drop into such a lovely place. I look forward to come again and stay few nights and get to enjoy this beautiful bush camp. It is comfy with beautiful views to a valley and surrounded by shady trees. The outdoor bath was amazing and fun to play with. I recommend this place to anyone who likes to be out and in nature in a comfy and simple setup.

This was one of our favorite Hipcamps ever! The hot tubs on the riverbank were absolutely magical - even in Tasmania’s cold weather, they gave us the perfect excuse to sit outside completely surrounded by nature and trees. We were lucky enough to spot platypuses in the stream right next to the tubs, which was a real highlight. We spent Christmas Day here and had an extra special experience driving half an hour into the hills for a white Christmas - such a rare treat! The location is also perfect for exploring Liffey Falls (a must-see - beautiful rainforest and waterfalls, only 30 minutes away). Our host Bert was wonderful - so friendly, full of great stories, and a wealth of knowledge about Tasmania and the area. He’s clearly worked hard on this property, from clearing the creek (perfect for a cold plunge before the hot tub!) to maintaining the beautiful soft grass where we could walk barefoot without a prickle in sight. We loved it so much we extended our stay by 2 nights and we’re already booked to return in a month before we leave Tasmania. Highly recommend!

I loved the Acomidation and it was such a beautiful spot! Very relaxing. The bath was so nice aswell, the best views!
I feel like it was a bit unclean though, the dishes were not very clean (assuming from previous campers maybe) so we left ours rinsed as we think they need hot water for washing not just cold water.. there wasn’t much to use utensils wise, and we thought there was meant to be so we went without but really struggled, There wasn’t much instructions on things like the bath for example. You do not need a lot of wood and that’s for sure otherwise you can’t get in, it’s way to hot. Maybe something is needed for the bottom of the tub.. it seemed a bit un safe at times with embers flying around in very close to reach the Acomidation from the fire pit being so close.. including while starting the pot belly fire inside the room.. and the burner is so close to the wall of the Acomidation, we were super worried with where it was sat.. the one pot had black stuff all over it and constantly got all over our clothes and tea towels etc.. maybe it just needs a bit of time spent on it to make it that bit better.

Such a beautiful location, abby has thought about everything you need to be comfortable. Kitchen is managable for simple cook ups and the bath is fantastic. Be aware that the charging station is very limited for power. Also wasnt expecting such close neighbours. All in all would definitely recommend and would consider staying again!

This weekend was a birthday present for my wife. She loved it at Valley’s Nest. Calm and peaceful with beautiful view. Very comfy bed, lovely fire that kept us warm. She had a long bath on Sunday taking in the view again. We also loved exploring Fingal and St Mary’s. Great meal that the St Mary’s pub and watched a platypus in the River running past the pub. Great weekend.

To anyone who wants the camping experience with all the creature comforts, look no further than Valleys Nest! Not only were the views spectacular, in daylight & at night, but this place really did make someone like me, who doesn’t like to camp, appreciate the experience even more.
The potbelly stove was bliss in these cold evenings & made sure we were never cold. The long drop was the best we had ever used - super clean & smell less! The swing & open verandah were my constant go-to for taking in the views when not cooking & warming up next to the fire, and the bath - just wow! Super warm with the most spectacular views! The whole experience was just so magical & we wont be only visiting once! For anyone wanting to reconnect to nature without too much effort, this is for sure an experience worth booking! Thank you Abby & Markus for sharing your magical place - it made for the most perfect romantic escape from our regular city life & forced us to reconnect to nature in all the best possible way!
