Wine tasting in the Barossa Valley is the big draw, but you can also play a game of golf at Sandy Creek Golf Club and go bushwalking, bird-watching, and kangaroo-spotting at Sandy Creek Conservation Park. Campers have choices, too, whether you prefer to park your campervan on a local farm, check into one of the holiday parks or caravan parks, or pitch a tent amid the vines.

We live in a beautiful hidden valley on 30 acres, We're joined by friendly dogs, horses, alpacas, rabbits, guinea pigs, 2 lovely Camels, 2 cheeky pigs, Galloway cows and chooks, along with the resident wildlife including many birds, kangaroos, koalas, shy owls, and even an echidna! All this, plus beautiful views from atop our hills, right to the lake, and the delightful winter creek complete with frogs. We are close to the McLaren Vale wine region as well as wineries throughout the Hills and 35 minutes to the coast of Victor Harbor. The Greenman Inn is 5 minutes down the road and has wonderful food from Wed to Sun if you do not feel the urge to cook with wood fires for the cold nights or a gorgeous outdoor area for the warmer months. At present, we offer two areas for camping. Topspot which has lovely views and is quite secluded amongst the tree tops. This site is suitable for tents and camper trailers (need reasonable backing skills and 4WD) The Laneway which is close to the babbling creek is suitable for those with a small caravan, or motorhome, 2WD etc, along with tent campers. (but would struggle with large caravans/motorhomes - please check with hosts) (The Lookout/Highview has spectacular views Please note this site is currently closed due to stock rotation.) If you have any doubts about which to book, please ask. AUTUMN/WINTER MONTHS: if we receive considerable rain the trek up to the hill sites could become slippery and not accessible as it is a farm paddock, therefore unfortunately your booking may need to be cancelled. NOTE: On our farm there is limited phone coverage in the valley (The Laneway). Pets are welcome, however, please ensure they are kept under control (unless discussed with the host) at all times. Please note: This is an active small farm, therefore work may need be continued throughout your stay possibly necessitating the use of machinery and tending to our livestock. If you wish to see some of the animals up close, please let us know and we will try to accommodate. We ask that all fires be contained within the fire pit provided and a portable toilet is available for your use. BUSHFIRE SEASON: Wood and open fires are not permitted in the bushfire season, therefore you will not be able to use the fire pits.

The campsites are located on the pasture paddocks of the farm with sheep roaming the area, so dogs on leashes at all times, and please pick up after them. With large distances between other campers, each site can cater for large groups, with no close neighbours. The sites are at least 2km away from busy roads, so absolute peace and privacy! There's a beautiful push bike ride from Riverton to Clare Valley and all the wineries are along the way. Plenty of room at the property for kids to ride their push bikes. Fantastic sunsets and sunrises from all sites, and at its best at the SUNSET BAA. Beautiful bird noises, including the kookaburras having a laugh. There's a very very basic "long drop toilet" pit toilet located near the Gumtree paddock and 5 others shared, down close to the camping paddocks, if not wanting to use shared toilets, please bring and supply your own portable toilet. Great Hotels/pubs to dine in at Tarlee and Riverton. Emporium cafe for the best coffee in Riverton Important Information to know before ALL GUESTS/VISITORS MUST BE BOOKED IN BEFORE ENTERING OUR PROPERTY!!! All campers must check in BEFORE 8pm. If you are unable to arrive before 8pm, please make a booking for the following day instead. We are a Poll Merino sheep stud and a wheat/barley cropping farm at Emu Downs in the Mid North of SA. We have resurrected this character old workers quarters which we've turned into a rustic, peaceful abode for you to enjoy. Sleeps four (double bed, single bed and old miners couch,). Bring your own bedding. There is a flushing external toilet and a bush shower (ie: a shower bag, provided). The room with the open fire can be utilised as a kitchen/living area. We've provided crockery, cutlery, glasses, kettles and a camp oven. There is running cold rainwater into the sink. Cooking can be done on the open fire, or use the small camp gas cookers. There is also a gas BBQ in the outdoor room. If you are really brave, try your hand at camp oven cooking in the campfire. There is no power, only lighting provided from a small solar panel/battery. Weekend Trip to Noorla Farm (Happy Camping Ground)
We had amazing experiences here on Sam and Chris' Noorla Farm : ) This was my first ever camp with my 2 boys and we were made to feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. Sam and Chris gave us the right advice and support to get us going as well as a lovely gift of eggs, homemade biscuits and sweets. We stayed at the Laneway and it was beautiful scenery and there was ever present nature including many species of bird calls that we awoke to in the morning, as well as the possums we spotted over night. There was also a kookaburra only a few meters from the tent, waiting in the morning. Sam and Chris very kindly helped us to pack up our new tent that we were struggling with. Quite unbelievable and unexpected. We were so lucky. And to totally cap it off we were treated to meeting all their animals, and my teenage boys got to gain many new experiences from patting camels to holding guinea pigs and collecting eggs. Chris had a great sense of humour when showing us around and was really present and giving of his time. Thank you so much Sam and Chris. We look forward to coming back again!

We had an amazing time at Noorla Farm. Sam was incredibly kind to let us know that our original spot might be unsafe after the heavy rain, so we opted for the Laneway spot instead. We loved being so close to the farm animals, especially the horses. Sam and his wife even showed us around and let us feed them, which was definitely the highlight of our stay. We can definitely feel the love and care they have for their babies. Thank you for the wonderful memories, we’ll definitely be back

We had a wonderful time staying at Sam and Chris’s farm. We loved the Laneway. Fantastic shade with the lovely creek. It overlooked the cows. Sam and Chris introduced us to all their animals. We met the camels, cows, Guinea pigs, rabbits, chickens and more. They were lovely to chat with and we will be back. We really appreciated the welcome basket and the voucher took us to the nearby winery of K1 wines. There are lots of beautiful places to visit nearby. This was a big family gathering for us and we made fantastic memories from it thanks to their hospitality.

Amazing views !! A beautifully kept site , with a clean private portaloo, firepit, wooden table and bench seat . I had a lovely relaxing time at the Topspot site , also was lucky enough to help feed the animals , pat a camel ,a friendly pig and my favourite the cows with their babies!! Hosts were very welcoming, and I was given a little goody basket on arrival! I will definitely be back and bring the hubby and dog next time . Truly is a fabulous spot to camp , I would recommend to anyone 😁

I can’t recommend Sam and Chris’s place more highly. The location was perfect - a short drive either way from the farm and you’re in the middle of beautiful wine and food country. The farm itself was gorgeous - I went to sleep and woke up the sound of birds each day and the sunset from the top of the hill was pretty spectacular. Sam and Chris were incredibly generous with their time, showing me around the property and introducing me to all of the animals, as well as giving plenty of recommendations for the area. You can tell how much they care for all of their animals and they really want their guests to feel at home. I’ll definitely be back again!!

The Carriage ! Wow, views, views, and more views . Yes, it's simple but perfect, the decking looking out ,with a couch and table supplied is the most perfect place to relax , read, or just dream the day away! Set up a fly net inside with bedding (as bugs still can enter) for extra warmth, and coverage glamping not camping. The portaloo is another added camping luxury. This was my first solo trip and couldn't have had a better, safer experience, I will definitely be back and may even take the hubby..if he's lucky! 🤣🤣

This was our first off grid stay in our brand new caravan - and we absolutely loved it. Beautiful property, and so relaxing. Trish was lovely, and very friendly, yet non-intrusive. (Nothing against Peter- but we did not meet him - sure he is equally lovely.) If we lived in the same state, we would definitely make this a regular stay. 1 night at Edgehill Farm Stays Riverton
It's a large farm, off the beaten path, with a variety of different camping areas. Trish put us in an open field by a fire pit because there were high winds forecast overnight. You can hike up to a ridge with sunset views down to a broad valley. We were the only campers there that night and it was overcast and pitch black. There are sheep on the property and we had a herd visit our camp in the morning. It was easy to book online with quick confirmation and we drove there after having dinner in Clare. It was great for us and would recommend to anyone wanting something different away from the crowds.

Where to go

Barossa Valley

Patchwork vineyards, charming stone villages, and scenic walking and biking trails stretch north of Sandy Creek in the Barossa Valley wine region. The main towns of Tanunda, Angaston, and Nuriootpa are popular with campers and day-trippers, but the real highlight is a wine-tasting tour, hopping between family-run vineyards and cellar-door wineries, and sampling the region’s world-famous shiraz.

Adelaide Hills

South of Sandy Creek, the sloping vineyards and storybook villages of the Adelaide Hills are just a short drive away. Renowned for its Pinot Noir and sparkling wines, this is another one of South Australia’s famed wine regions, but you can equally enjoy cycling along miles of biking trails, visit the German-inspired village of Hahndorf, or pick your own seasonal fruits at the local orchards.

Adelaide Plains

Beach lovers will want to head further afield to explore the Yorke Peninsula to the north or the Fleurieu Peninsula, but the wild coastline of the Adelaide Plains is a must for birding enthusiasts. Stretching along the St Vincent Gulf, the fertile plains and wetlands around Thompson Beach and Webb Beach make up the Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary National Park, a key site along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway.

When to go

The wineries of the Barossa Valley pull in big crowds during the summer months (December through February), but most stay open for tastings year-round. Sandy Creek is particularly charming in spring, when wildflowers brighten up the surrounding farmlands, and in autumn, when fall foliage transforms the landscapes. Book your campsite in advance if visiting during the high season (summer).
