We run a sheep and cropping farm which creates beautiful camping grounds at the foot of the hills, just below the Heysen Trail. The campsites are located on the pasture paddocks of the farm with sheep roaming the area, so dogs on leashes at all times, and please pick up after them. With large distances between other campers, each site can cater for large groups, with no close neighbours. The sites are at least 2km away from busy roads, so absolute peace and privacy! There's a beautiful push bike ride from Riverton to Clare Valley and all the wineries are along the way. Plenty of room at the property for kids to ride their push bikes. Fantastic sunsets and sunrises from all sites, and at its best at the SUNSET BAA. Beautiful bird noises, including the kookaburras having a laugh. There's a very very basic "long drop toilet" pit toilet located near the Gumtree paddock and 5 others shared, down close to the camping paddocks, if not wanting to use shared toilets, please bring and supply your own portable toilet. Great Hotels/pubs to dine in at Tarlee and Riverton. Emporium cafe for the best coffee in Riverton Important Information to know before ALL GUESTS/VISITORS MUST BE BOOKED IN BEFORE ENTERING OUR PROPERTY!!! All campers must check in BEFORE 8pm. This was our first off grid stay in our brand new caravan - and we absolutely loved it. Beautiful property, and so relaxing. Trish was lovely, and very friendly, yet non-intrusive. (Nothing against Peter- but we did not meet him - sure he is equally lovely.) If we lived in the same state, we would definitely make this a regular stay. 1 night at Edgehill Farm Stays Riverton

It's a large farm, off the beaten path, with a variety of different camping areas. Trish put us in an open field by a fire pit because there were high winds forecast overnight. You can hike up to a ridge with sunset views down to a broad valley. We were the only campers there that night and it was overcast and pitch black. There are sheep on the property and we had a herd visit our camp in the morning. It was easy to book online with quick confirmation and we drove there after having dinner in Clare. It was great for us and would recommend to anyone wanting something different away from the crowds.

We had a wonderful stay at Edgehill Farm Stays at Riverton, SA. For a number of us in the group, this was our first off-grid experience, and it was great in all respects. Our hosts, Trish & Peter, were terrific, and the level of communication was excellent. Would recommend.

What an absolute treat to experience Edgehill Farm. Trish goes over and above for guests - from a warm, personalised greeting at the gate on arrival, to chaperoning to your site alongside friendly banter, to giving you all the space and privacy you need to enjoy your stay, right through to firewood deliveries to your site and checking everything was ok before you leave. The location is just beautiful. Lovely to see the glow of other campsites dotted around the property at night - but never hearing or seeing another camper. Loved it so much, booked in 2 more stays whilst we were sitting around the campfire. Hoping to get to Sunset Baa next time! I can see why Edgehill has such a loyal cult following (a real credit to the hosts)… we now count ourselves members of the cult! Thank you for sharing your beautiful property with us!

Where to go

Barossa Valley

Patchwork vineyards, charming stone villages, and scenic walking and biking trails stretch north of Sandy Creek in the Barossa Valley wine region. The main towns of Tanunda, Angaston, and Nuriootpa are popular with campers and day-trippers, but the real highlight is a wine-tasting tour, hopping between family-run vineyards and cellar-door wineries, and sampling the region’s world-famous shiraz.

Adelaide Hills

South of Sandy Creek, the sloping vineyards and storybook villages of the Adelaide Hills are just a short drive away. Renowned for its Pinot Noir and sparkling wines, this is another one of South Australia’s famed wine regions, but you can equally enjoy cycling along miles of biking trails, visit the German-inspired village of Hahndorf, or pick your own seasonal fruits at the local orchards.

Adelaide Plains

Beach lovers will want to head further afield to explore the Yorke Peninsula to the north or the Fleurieu Peninsula, but the wild coastline of the Adelaide Plains is a must for birding enthusiasts. Stretching along the St Vincent Gulf, the fertile plains and wetlands around Thompson Beach and Webb Beach make up the Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary National Park, a key site along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway.

When to go

The wineries of the Barossa Valley pull in big crowds during the summer months (December through February), but most stay open for tastings year-round. Sandy Creek is particularly charming in spring, when wildflowers brighten up the surrounding farmlands, and in autumn, when fall foliage transforms the landscapes. Book your campsite in advance if visiting during the high season (summer).
