We are a Poll Merino sheep stud and a wheat/barley cropping farm at Emu Downs in the Mid North of SA. We have resurrected this character old workers quarters which we've turned into a rustic, peaceful abode for you to enjoy. Sleeps four (double bed, single bed and old miners couch,). Bring your own bedding. There is a flushing external toilet and a bush shower (ie: a shower bag, provided). The room with the open fire can be utilised as a kitchen/living area. We've provided crockery, cutlery, glasses, kettles and a camp oven. There is running cold rainwater into the sink. Cooking can be done on the open fire, or use the small camp gas cookers. There is also a gas BBQ in the outdoor room. If you are really brave, try your hand at camp oven cooking in the campfire. There is no power, only lighting provided from a small solar panel/battery. Extra guests welcome in tents, swags or vans adjacent to the cottage. To ensure only one group of campers at a time, THE COTTAGE HAS TO BE BOOKED FIRST, then book the extra campers through the additional campsites listing. Eckert's Old Place is within an easy drive to the Clare Valley wine regions and historic Robertstown, Burra and Eudunda. Campfires welcome when not in fireban season. Great spot for a quick stay. Toilet was immaculately clean, view was gorgeous. Instructions to get to camp very clear. We couldn't find a number 4 on any trees so went a little past 3 and set up - we were the only campers. There is a bee hive active on one of the trees at the moment, but we were far enough away not to be bothered. Absolutely stunning night time sky.

Oliver and Chloe were great hosts. The area was cut and ready for us to settle in and relax. The farm location was close enough to go in and spend a great day looking around Burra. And then being far enough away from the traffic and bustle to return to our site and relax and enjoy the sunset. Lovely spot. Would definitely stay again.

Loved our one night stay on our way to Flinders Ranges and Lake Eyre from Flinders Victoria. After a couple of nights camping in the ute, it was lovely having a loo to use and under cover cooking facilities of a bbq. We still camped in our ute but enjoyed the gorgeous old stone building to store our clothes and get changed in. The outdoor shower was just a bag warmed up in the sun. The outdoor fire was great to sit around too. We enjoyed chatting to Philip about his poll merino stud.

We enjoyed staying at Cartapo Creek Farm Stay with Chloe and Oliver. They're a lovely young couple, very welcoming, nothing too much trouble. We had the entire camp ground to ourselves, peaceful, stunning rural setting. We purchased some meat from them and had a camp fire, it was what we needed to escape the hustle and bustle. A nice drive into Burra, stunning farm land, rolling hills and green pastures.

We had a great time camping over the October long weekend. Was great to have the amenities, flushing toilet, the BBQ and outdoor table. The cottage was quaint, but perfect size for our large group to enjoy camping. Yard was plenty big to spread out with nice rolling hills past crop fields for scenery - adjacent, a farm shed hiding behind some greenery. It is easy to get to, smooth dirt roads from all directions with Burra about 30 minutes away and Robertstown about 15.

Picturesque farm stay with lovely views over surrounding paddocks and range. Hosts are superb friendly and lovely people. Diverse range of farm animals, which is great for kids. The camping sites are well spaced, with trees in between, so we felt we had our own space. Property is well situated for exploring the mid-North and Clare Valley.

Weekend Trip to Cartapo Creek - Farm Stay

We just spent three nights at Cartapo Farm Stay and absolutely loved it. It’s bush camping at its best, with the added security of being able to leave the van and head into the lovely town of Burra for a look around. My granddaughter especially enjoyed feeding the pigs, which was such a highlight for her. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming, and the fire at night made for a beautiful, relaxing atmosphere. It was such a peaceful stay, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to spend a few days exploring Burra.

2 nights at Cartapo Creek - Farm Stay

I had a lovely 2 night stay at Cartapo Creek. The arrival instructions and communication were really clear, with clear signage. I ordered some firewood which was ready and waiting, and was a good mixture of kindling and larger logs. My lamb chops for dinner were delicious! I was at site 1 which is the furthest from the house and felt very private. There was someone on Site 3 for one night, close enough to be aware of them but not close enough to impact on my stay.

This is a fantastic rustic place to relax and unwind. Waking up to the valley full of mist while sipping your coffee on the porch was a perfect way to help wash away the stresses of life.
