3 nights at Platypus Bush Camp

This was the first visit for us (2 adults, 15yr old son and 2 dogs) and we will definitely be back! Lots to do and explore (Finch Hatton gorge and the mountain bike track nearby). The camp kitchen had everything you needed, including a pizza oven, which we used on our second night. Outdoor showers are fantastic and everything was clean and tidy. Hammocks, books to borrow, ideal place to swim (a bit cold this time of year though).

5 Stars – A Perfect Camping Getaway! Absolutely fantastic place to camp! The staff are warm and welcoming—special shoutout to Gabby and Neti who went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. The facilities are spotless, with clean and well-maintained showers and toilets. The camp kitchens are excellent—fully equipped, tidy, and one even features a pizza oven, which was a great surprise! The recreation areas are beautiful and relaxing, complete with comfy chairs, a cozy fireplace, books, and games. Couldn’t have asked for more. We’ll definitely be back!

Came for one night and stayed for a few extra days. Peaceful and interesting place with the clearest stream running through. Sue popped down most days, a very kind and knowledgeable host.

2 nights at Platypus Bush Camp

Tranquility, serenity, amazing ponds & creek, coffee machine, places to sit and read, watch, listen & enjoy the moment, outdoor showers with HOT water, the ambience & the staff. This place is the best place to recharge & explore pathways & views. We will be back!

Camping on Terry & Sue's grassy farmland in June was exceptional. Plenty of space, shady areas away from the creek, clean toilets and fire pits to enjoy a campfire. Wood sold by the crate, free use of canoes to paddle on the creek or swim in the clear water. The collection of old wares, household antiques, tools, toys and equipment was interesting. However my favourite was the small herd of cattle which were grazing and bellowing in areas fenced off from campers.

Sue and Terry are fantastic hosts. The area is beautiful and peaceful. Our kids loved everything and can’t wait to go back. The extra touches like kayaks and bikes were great. The creek is stunning and the antiques are amazing! Thanks Sue and Terry! We’ll see you again soon

Loved everything about it! The only small downsides were the parking situation and the trek to the toilets from the camping area. Didn’t spot any platypus this time, so I’ll definitely be back for another try!

1 night at Platypus Bush Camp

You can tell how much work has gone into this campsite, it was the perfect place to unwind. The sound of the stream was perfect white noise to sleep to. All of the facilities were great and Shane was really nice. This campsite is in a great location, a stones throw from Eungella for some platypus spotting. We will certainly be here again on our way back down the east coast.

We have a selection of beautiful creek side locations where you can enjoy the clear, fresh running water and a selection of other sites only a short walk from the water. Conveniently located just a short drive off the Bruce Highway our sites are not designated, you choose your own on arrival KIDS UNDER 17 STAY FREE! MAX 2 ADULTS PER SITE! If coming with additional adults you MUST booking another site. While staying, you will have the opportunity to take a walk into the past to view a private collection of Australiana, including a working stationary, engine display and vintage kitchen with wood stoves. Access to the property is via a creek crossing so it is advisable to phone ahead if there has been recent rain or rainfall is forecast. Toilets are located on the property but campers will need their own shower facilities and take all waste with them on departure. Campfires are permitted but must be contained at all times in a fire pits that we also have for your use, we also sell firewood at $15 for a milk crate. Calen is a small cane growing and cattle town with a general store, pharmacy, service station, butcher and the local pub. Zarby's cafe is a short drive away if you would like to dine in for breakfast or lunch in a retro style setting. Each site fee is for 2 adults and kids stay at no cost. Pets are welcome.

Platypus Bush Camp

Hi Everyone and Welcome to our home and a very special property called Platypus Bush Camp. The property has been operating as a bushcamp / rainforest retreat for 40 years and from what we hear regularly it is one of Australia's most unique campsites and it feels nice too :) The bushcamp feels like you are going back in time and has a hint of Asia / South America with the building style and nature but you are in the Aussie rainforest / bush and then we trow in some country hospitality and humour so we can all enjoy our time. There are 4 creeks that flow all year into an absolutely stunning swimming hole that is the largest and deepest in Finch Hatton Gorge. We are off grid but with all the modern amenities like flushing toilets, stunning hot showers with rainforest views (if you like), large fully equipped camp kitchens with everything you need, there is even a pizza oven and usb charging ports and you can see and hear the water from the kitchens and the dining areas. Accomodation options include:  - 10 unpowered sites available which suit a variety of set ups including sites with your own private deck looking over the creek, shaded sites and sites with sun for solar - please refer to each site description for specific site size and photos. - 6 unpowered tent sites in our grassed where the main fire pit is located - no vehicles are permitted on the grassed area but parking is close by. - 3 private creekside huts / tree houses with stunning views, comfortable beds and bedding. Pets are welcome - as long as they are well behaved and owners clean up after them. There is a central fire pit with seating and cooking plate and an undercover fireplace / dining room as well if there is any rain or bring your own fire pit and use at your site. The property is located in the Pioneer Valley just outside Mackay, Queensland. We are 2 kilometres from the breathtaking Finch Hatton Gorge in the Eungella National Park. Just 1 hour drive from Mackay and 2 hours from Airlie Beach and the drive here is beautiful too. Two or three nights is a good amount of time to be able to explore the area including Eungella National Park, Finch Hatton Gorge (Araluen Cascades & Wheel of Fire) while still having time to relax at the Bushcamp.
