Macfarlane is a working Merino sheep and beef cattle operation. It is 24,000 acres (9612 hectares). It predominantly open Mitchell grass downs country with a small acreage of Gidgee scrub. We are on the watershed of the lake eyre catchment system with the murray darling on the other side. We have a wide variety of bird life and native animals.Our seasons vary, sometimes it is drought stricken and others lush. Do not assume by looking at lovely green grass photos that it always look like this. We are new to this game so please be patient as we find our way.We offer accommodation at the shearers quarters and camping.Other than at shearing time our quarters lie idle. The quarters are basic with 8 bedrooms. Each room has 2 beds with a mattress, linen is not provided. There is basic showering and toileting facilities. There is a washing machine. The kitchen has fridges and freezers. There is an oven and a cooktop. There is very limited cooking equipment. It is a 500 metre walk to the house dam. It has commanding views of the surrounding countryside.You can camp or park your campervan/RV at the dam. Feel free to pitch your tent here and simply park your camping vehicle and unwind. This site is dependant on seasonal conditions as to whether or not the dam is full or empty. There are toilets, showers and cooking facilities available at our shearers quarters 500 metres away.

Tambo is a great place to base yourself for a day trip to visit Wilderness Way and Salvator Rosa National Park. The Visitor information centre and Historic buildings are within walking distance and also have bike tracks near by. Great meals can be had at the Tambo Tavern. In season (April to October) check out the Famous chicken races held daily, at the Royal Carrangarra Hotel.
