Walk the pet, light a fire at night and let the kids explore. Several sites have hot water for open air baths or tubs.
Dunblane is a wool sheep grazing property located just off the Landsborough (Matilda) Highway 8km west of Barcaldine. We welcome camping guests and we're happy to share our place with others.
Only one booking allowed at each site so you will have the site to yourself, although you are able to book so friends can also stay with you. Pull in, light a fire, watch for falling stars, walk the dog and let the kids explore. Check the sunsets that never fail.

Macfarlane is a working Merino sheep and beef cattle operation. It is 24,000 acres (9612 hectares). It predominantly open Mitchell grass downs country with a small acreage of Gidgee scrub. We are on the watershed of the lake eyre catchment system with the murray darling on the other side. We have a wide variety of bird life and native animals.Our seasons vary, sometimes it is drought stricken and others lush. Do not assume by looking at lovely green grass photos that it always look like this. We are new to this game so please be patient as we find our way.We offer accommodation at the shearers quarters and camping.Other than at shearing time our quarters lie idle. The quarters are basic with 8 bedrooms. Each room has 2 beds with a mattress, linen is not provided. There is basic showering and toileting facilities. There is a washing machine. The kitchen has fridges and freezers. There is an oven and a cooktop. There is very limited cooking equipment. It is a 500 metre walk to the house dam. It has commanding views of the surrounding countryside.You can camp or park your campervan/RV at the dam. Feel free to pitch your tent here and simply park your camping vehicle and unwind. This site is dependant on seasonal conditions as to whether or not the dam is full or empty. There are toilets, showers and cooking facilities available at our shearers quarters 500 metres away.

Bush camp on the road between Jericho and Blackall. Cleared sites, with lovely bush outlooks, ideal for self-contained campers wanting peace and quiet. Lots of birdlife - great for bird watchers! On a clear night - the stars here are incredible!
Please ensure you are fully self-sufficient with have your own toilet, power, water etc, and we kindly ask you take all waste when you go. There is a dump site in Jericho, 27km away.
You are welcome to choose your own spot within the designated 2ha cleared camping area. Plenty of space to find your own private, level patch. Lots of space, even for larger vehicles. Plenty of options for shade.
Pets are welcome, but they must be kept on a lead at all times, as there are working Maremmers and station dogs in the area.
Because of the landscape and some older farm equipment on the land, and in order to maintain a peaceful setting, we prefer to not accept bookings with children.

The lake itself is a beautiful natural expanse of water set among shady gum trees. Seasonally, thousands of glorious water lilies line the banks in the shallow water. This lush oasis is home to a vast array of birds and native animals, making it an ideal location to birdwatch and photograph some of Quilpie Shire’s unique wildlife.
Visiting this beautiful, natural lake teeming with native birds makes it difficult to believe this is outback Queensland! Why not try your hand at fishing in the lake or sit and watch the abundant and varied bird life. At night, you may like to take in our awesome sunsets and spectacular stargazing, far away from city lights.
We are located only a short 5 minute drive from the friendly little town of Quilpie.

I really loved staying at the shearing shed. It was great to meet David and have a chat before I set up; the shed had heaps of things to look at talking about what they do there as a working sheep holding. I found it really interesting and loved the fact it’s a working shed so staying there is a bit like being a fly on the wall.. getting a sneak peek into how a sheep station works.
The opportunity to have a hot artesian water bath and watch the sunset was sublime. I really hope to visit here again. I highly recommend this camp spot.

We loved our family stay at the shed shearing farm and will defentinley be back in future for such a unique exsperince!
David (Host) was very caring a accomadating during our stay and kept us informed with the weather.
The hot baths were amazing, nice to relax in while hearing, seing sheep and watching the sun go down was very refreshing after a long day travelling. There is a few goats that like to be around your camp site and are friendly.

We had an absolutely incredible time at Dunblane.
From welcoming messages giving clear directions for how to access our campsite and facilities to his arrival shortly after ours, David was a great host and actively involved my two young teenaged boys and I in some genuine farm work, helping him to sort his sheep into their yards.
After some pretty intensive labour we soaked our hard working bones in his deep artesian baths that had to be filled up in the afternoon to allow them time to cool for the evening - that’s how hot the artesian water is!
Not going to lie, the amenities - as is clearly stated from the outset - are not terribly appealing! We used our own toilet and shower. I wouldn’t recommend relying on those that are there, although they are available if need be. Best to go out fully self contained and just enjoy the genuine farm experience, the gorgeous sunset over David’s expansive land, and the relaxing hot baths at the end of the day.
We would do it all over again and will be back if we ever get the chance.

We had a fabulous two nights at Dunblane station. David was so nice and welcoming. The artesian baths were great! The sheering was happening during our stay, which really added to our experience! Our little boys got to cuddle baby lambs and get involved with the workers. Would definitely stay again!

Our stay at Dunblane was such a wonderful experience. We stayed at the shearing shed and arrived at around 5pm just in time to set up and enjoy the sunset from the artesian baths. Then as the sun went down and the sky darkened you get to experience the most amazing sky filled with stars. There was no one else around which made it even more spectacular. We sent David a message as we were arriving and he popped down to welcome us and tell us a bit about his farm. Everything was really well thought out and they have plenty of info on site for you to drive straight in and set up and to learn about the way of life on their property. We will definitely stay again if we are in the area. Thanks David!

Camping at Dunblane is an outback experience that the average city slicker should not miss. David is a very accommodating host and the Jack and Jillaroo experience gives you a real sense of life on a sheep station. The hot artesian baths are the cherry on top and I highly recommend staying at the Shearers shed as well as McBrides for two unique locations. Stepping into the shearers shed is a genuine privilege and the animals that come to the waterhole at McBrides is wonderful. Can’t rave highly enough and so grateful to be able to stay here on our outback adventure.

What a great place to stop, so rustic and beautiful. We setup out the back of the wool shed and it was all so cool to see, smell and walk through the shearing shed to really experience how things work.
Dave was an excellent host, the kids had so many questions as did we.

We had the best stay at The Gretel Cattle Yards site! Plenty of room for the kiddos to hoon around on bikes, and watching the sunset from the artesian trough will be forever be one of my favourite memories from our 8000 km trip!
The kids loved watching the cows in the yards and the sheep wandering around the paddock. David was responsive and helpful, and the delivery of firewood was incredibly handy! We would come back in a heartbeat. Thankyou David!

Loved camping at the cattle yards. It felt private whilst still being surrounded by farm animals and wildlife, and not to mention the added bonus of having power. The sunrises and sunsets were amazing as was the artesian bath. Loved every moment of staying at David’s property.

What a beautiful spot amongst the river gums. Louise and her partner were very welcoming and helpful. I had a wonderful time painting, creating and wandering with my dog. The dams were low but this was of little consequence with no mozzies to speak of.

Had a fantastic stay at Dunblane. The site we had was 100% private but also so close to the town. The tub was so much fun and we loved getting in it to watch the sunset and the very starry nights. Having power and water was also an added bonus.
David is a great host and was very responsive with communications.
I highly recommend Dunblane and hope to return one day.

Great location. Afternoon shade of the woodshed was excellent. Watching the sunset from the artesian bath was sensational. If you are interested in birds it’s a winner. Toilet & shower facilities are basic, so you need to be self sufficient. David is a wonderful host and provided us with a terrific overview of his local farming knowledge. The stars at night were blinding. Loved it, we will be back. Thanks David for unique experience. Highly recommend.
