If you've got time, detour on the Warringa Pool track, which leads downstream from the base of the falls; you'll add another 2 kilometres to the walk and need to allow another 40 minutes to return. Best of all lookout Springbrook National Park has breathtaking lookouts, magnificent waterfalls, dense rainforest and ancient Antarctic beech trees. The park is part of Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage area. These lookouts are often shrouded by cloud, even when the weather is fine and sunny on the coast. For the best views, visit on clear, smoke-free days. Apple Tree Park Apple Tree Park forms part of the Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk and is just one of many entry points. The starting point for the walk is the Settlement Campground at Purlingbrook Falls. The walk is a 54-kilometre trek through the beautiful Springbrook rainforest. You can do a much smaller distance if you prefer and still take in the great views and tranquillity of the rainforest. Pack your walking shoes, a hat and drink bottle and enjoy. See the birds, hear them chirping, be amazed at the beautiful historic trees. This spectacular location is just 29 kilometres from Mudgeeraba, at the top of the Springbrook range and is the access point for many of the amazing walks in the Springbrook area. Weekend Trip to LoveNature Glamping Hut

Back for our second stay and LoveNature continues to impress. The outdoor firepit made chilly evenings magical and the amenities are spot on - equipped outdoor undercover kitchenette, hotplate, bar fridge, utensils - so you can settle in straight away. Easy access to Springbrook cafes and walks. We'll be back!

Where to go

Around Wyaralong Dam

Just west of Beaudesert, the verdant shores of Lake Wyaralong have more than 40 kilometers of hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails to explore. Take in the views from Mt Joyce, picnic by the lakeside, then pitch your tent at a waterfront camping ground. In the summer, water sports, including kayaking and canoeing, are popular along the lake.

Gold Coast Hinterlands

East of Beaudesert, Tamborine Mountain is the star of the Gold Coast hinterlands, where you can hike to waterfalls, spot wildlife along the Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk, or enjoy wine tasting at a boutique winery. Another must-visit destination is the Springbrook National Park. Enjoy bushwalking and camping in the Numinbah Valley, then discover the glowworm caves of the Natural Bridge.

South Scenic Rim

The southern section of the Scenic Rim region is home to some of its wildest landscapes. Head into the Lamington National Park to hike through UNESCO-listed rainforest, discover hidden waterfalls, and sleep at remote bush camps. To the west, Mount Barney National Park has summit climbs to challenge the most experienced hikers and backcountry campsites in the heart of the bush.

When to go

The hinterlands are a year-round destination, but the best weather for outdoor activities is from late autumn to early spring (April through September). Markets and events are held on weekends throughout the year, and this is the liveliest time to visit. Summer (December through February) campers should prepare for hot weather—daytime temperatures can reach over 30°C—and frequent downpours.

Know before you go

Buses connect Beaudesert to Brisbane and the Gold Coast, but having your own transport is useful for exploring the hinterlands and national parks.

Beaudesert has a selection of shops and restaurants, but for specialist camping gear, it’s best to head to Brisbane or the Gold Coast.
Fire bans are common in Queensland during summer and dry periods, so check local recommendations before lighting a fire.
Camping permits are required to camp within Queensland’s national parks and must be reserved in advance.
