In summer you may see mumma swan and her baby cygnets, as well as lots of ducklings. Drop in your paddle board or kayak for a leisurely paddle. Really nice spot! Sandy & Janette provided really good info on the local area. Instructions were easy to follow. The spot itself was really nice by the lake. Heaps of birds cruising about, happy horses & a friendly pup that came to say hi a couple of times. You also feel well out in the country but are still super close to shops and local attracations. We will definitely be back.

We had a great time at Margaret's land, she and all her team, specially Russell where the best. We have the place to ourselves with beautiful views and freedom for our kids. If you are looking for a farm place to stay, this is great as you are in an actual horse and cattle farm. They have many other extra services available like tractor rides, horse rides, pony rides, animal feeding. You have Greta in a short drive within a small drive distance and they can even give you a 10% discount on meals at the thirsty horse becausr you are staying at Margaret's place. Awesome place, looking forward to come back.

We loved our first weekend away in our new caravan at Lakestead Farm, was so close to home but felt like we were miles away on holiday, the hosts instructions were amazingly detailed, the property was great, flat level grassy large sites, was very relaxing watching the bird life arrival at dusk, amazing sunsets, had a fish in the lake, caught a couple or Eels, nothing better in life than sitting around a campfire watching the stars in the sky!!, Thank you Sandy for sharing your beautiful property

The dog and I had a wonderful stay at this beautiful open site right on the pond. There was plenty of space and easy access for our large caravan, which made it great for an ovrrnight stop witjout having to unhitch the van. The directions provided were spot on, making it simple to find even for first-time visitors. Sandy was a warm and welcoming host who made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. Peaceful setting, lovely views, and excellent hospitality ... highly recommended!

We had an awesome long weekend at Poppy’s Dam Paddock — literally camped right in front of the dam. Beautiful view, peaceful vibes, and not a single snake, lizard, or mutant-sized bug to ruin it. Perfect. Now, let’s talk about the cows. Yes, the paddock is basically a land of freedom… for cow poo. It’s everywhere. But don’t panic — just **don’t camp under the trees** (cows love hanging out there), and **ask the staff for help**. They have this magical machine — a smash mower — that trims the grass and turns the cow pats into organic dust. Do **not** try to move them yourself unless you want to meet their entire worm family. Toilets and showers were portable but clean — absolutely no complaints there. We also tried two wineries nearby: 🍷 **Wandin Valley Estate** – Their red wines were great. Highly recommend! 🍷 **Gartelmann Wines** – If you want to try something different and adventurous, this is your spot. Honestly, most of their wines weren’t my taste — they customise them a lot — but it’s definitely an experience. Overall, we loved it and would totally come back (now that we know how to dodge cow landmines).

We had a wonderful weekend exploring the local area around Putty and spending time on the farm. The owner, James, was easygoing and shared his knowledge of Putty and the best places to go explore nearby. There were friendly dogs on the property and our pups had a great time playing with them and swimming in the dam to cool off. The property was nicely maintained so we didn’t need to worry about our dogs finding a danger noodle in long grass, and we were able to find a nice spot just for us to camp amongst nature. Definitely recommend this stay for a private, quiet, enjoyable country experience.

Popran National Park

A short drive from Glenworth Valley, the Popran National Park is a great day-trip destination for campers in the area as there are no campsites within the park itself. Visitors can hike, mountain bike, kayak, fish, ride horses, and spot birds and animals. The park also protects a number of Aboriginal sites and there’s a picnic area. Most roads to the park require a four-wheel-drive vehicle.

Brisbane Water National Park

Just southeast of Glenworth Valley, the Brisbane Water National Park offers walks, cycling, and fishing, and has some ancient Aboriginal rock art sites. There’s a small, basic bush tent site within the park or visitors can stay at Glenworth Valley or nearby coastal campsites at Umina or Gosford and make day trips into the park. Road access into this park does not require a four-wheel-drive vehicle so this is a good option for casual visits.

Dharug National Park

West of Glenworth Valley, on the other side of Mangrove Creek (a tributary of the Hawkesbury River), the large Dharug National Park contains the UNESCO-listed Old Great North Road hike. There are also other hiking and cycling routes and two campsites. The Ten Mile Hollow Campground is small and free to stay at (although bookings are required), while the Mill Creek Campground is larger and has more facilities, and fees apply.

When to go

Spring and autumn are the best times to visit the Glenworth Valley area for hiking, biking, kayaking, and horse-riding adventures. The weather is most comfortable then. Summers are hot and the risk from bushfires is high, but this is a good season if you want to visit the nearby beaches of the Central Coast. Winters are mild but often wet, and glamping or staying in a cabin or cottage would be most comfortable.
