Firewood provided for your indoor fireplace. You will have access to a camp oven and rotating grill, as well as a kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, electric hot plate and kettle. The barn can accommodate sleeping for 10+ and features two double beds, two single beds, one couch, two air mattresses and five floor mattresses. There is also a fully equipped gym. You will need to bring your own sheets, pillows, sleeping bag etc for added comfort. Sleeping close to the fire upstairs is recommended in the cooler months. Camping is optional with nice flat spots near the dam under sheoaks. The huge backyard previously hosted an annual gypsy festival to celebrate International Romani day. The backyard is really the highlight - from the moment you step into it you will feel like you have escaped into your own little paradise. The house itself has 3 bedrooms, with 1 bathroom inside and 1 bathroom outside. Inside the house, which can sleep up to 8 people. In addition to the main house, there are 3 hand-made gypsy style caravans on site. The largest (brown) caravan at the front of the property has a double bed and 2 small single beds - so can sleep up to 4 people. It is suitable for 2 adults and 2 kids. The smallest caravan (green) has 2 single beds in it - please note that these beds are narrower than a standard single bed - see photos. Bed linen and Towels are provided only for the main house occupants - you must bring your own linen and towels when staying in the caravans. The medium caravan (blue) is in the backyard and can be used as a cubby house/chill out area or workspace. The house itself has recently been renovated, with care taken to retain its gorgeous vintage fixtures and furniture. There are coloured stained glass windows and lighting pendants throughout the house. This is our family holiday house so we have set it up with everything that you and your family will need to feel comfortable and at home. It’s an absolute paradise for kids with the trampoline, jetty, gypsy cubby house, kayaks and fishing opportunities. The Back Road Van is a 22 foot Viscount Supreme caravan, circa 1970's, in fairly original condition. Sitting on a 7 acre property in the beautiful Markwell Valley, and only a 7 minute drive from the village of Bulahdelah. (Note : 5kms of sealed road and 2kms of unsealed gravel road from town - suitable for all vehicles.)  The van is decorated to reflect the retro 70s style. Inside it features a ‘cosy’ double bed, with linen provided; a lounge area; plus a small galley kitchen, that includes a toaster, kettle, bar fridge, microwave and a 2 burner electric stove top. There are also added extras such as a selection of teas, coffee with plunger, milk and local free range eggs. (Note : the van does not have a plumbed water supply, but plenty of fresh water is provided. ) The van is covered by a large shelter - including an open seating area with lounge; table and chairs, a breakfast bar; and small gas BBQ. There is a fire pit which can be used in Winter and Autumn and when fire restrictions allow. We supply all wood for the fire. It also has its own separate bathroom, with shower, toilet and wash basin. Towels are supplied.  Our Pet Policy. Your pet is more than welcome at the Back Road Van. Please keep on leash around the property to protect local wildlife. The space inside the van is NOT suitable for two or more dogs (unless they are a tiny breed). You will have access to the entire property during your stay, complete privacy. Staying here, you are completely hidden from any other man made structure, immersed in nature. The property is located less than 2 hours from Sydney, 20 mins from Cessnock and the Hunter wineries, adjacent to Sugarloaf Conservation area. You'll love the morning and evening birdsong and be surrounded by the colour green by day. At night, be lulled by the music of the froggy symphonies, watch the moon rise over the forrest, and being mesmerised by the warmth and dancing light of a fire. Wallabies visit at dusk and dawn and a Koala has been heard calling at night. A 1km drive from the main road leads to the open living space. There are two cabins, just within sight of each other, a campsite with an outdoor kitchen shed and a large oval lawn. The Sky Cabin (blue) has a very comfortable queen size bed, a large deck, bbq, composting toilet, small equipped kitchen, solar lighting, hot and cold running water, an outdoor hot shower, and slow combustion fireplace inside. The Earth Cabin has an exceptionally comfortable queen size bed, deck, composting toilet, solar lighting, a slow combustion fireplace inside and running water outside a short distance away. If you want to include Belle tents in your booking rather than bring your own you have the option to add those to your booking and we will set them up for you with lighting included, though you will need to BYO beds and bedding. The campsite adjacent to the shed has running water, an outdoor shower and outdoor toilet. The property has short (circular) walks through the bush, and access to Sugarloaf Conservation area (with further walks and access to the Great North Walk). But its the ideal place to just chill. Camping is optional with nice flat spots near the dam under sheoaks. Our campsites are equally as beautiful. Chill out in the shade by the dam during the day. Firewood is provided and you're welcome to use the camp ovens and the rotating grill, but if you get stuck cooking on the open fire there is a microwave, electric hot plate and kettle. These are situated downstairs in the barn a short walk from site. A great swim in the 50m dam. There is access to toilets, showers, drinking water and rubbish facilities.
