The Flying J Farm is 250 beautiful rolling acres including 100 acres of forest, 6-acre lake small pond, three streams, and numerous fields for crops and pastures with cows. The owner bought the farm in 1998 for his retirement from a faculty position at the Ohio State university. Two buildings, the farm house and old barn, are original dating back to 1831. These have been restored for current use. The mission of the farm is to restore health both in people though the products produced and in the land by farming in a sustainable way with no conventional chemicals, antibiotics, and use of GMO. We host many visitors including tours and events. An on farm market is available to visitors for purchase of our products including grass-fed beef, maple syrup, and fruits and vegetables. The cabin was built using wood from the farm. It has off-grid electricity meaning it is powered by batteries charged by solar panels. There is not sufficient power for devices with a heating element such as coffee makers and hair dryers. You may charge cell phones. For any other use, please check with the owner. Wild Life. There is an abundance of wildlife to be observed on the farm. Deer can be seen at dusk, raccoons can be seen going through your camp food at night (if you put it in your car), turkeys, hawks, vultures, rabbits, coyotes (heard screaming at night), frogs (especially heard at night), fish (jumping), and many song birds (my favorite, the bobolink, May and June only, nesting in the pastures). Trash. This sustainable farm has no garbage hauling, please carry away your trash.

Site 4 Is on the far side of the dam so you need to carry your things in from parking on the near side of the dam. This site is right on the lake and has a beautiful view. It is next to the lake. Restroom is in the cabin. Please carry away your trash. Beautiful hiking trails in the forest. No fishing license is required as this is a private lake. There is a "bent Tree" in the forest, that may have been created by the Indians a long time ago.  There is a cabin with a flush toilet and an outdoor kitchen with a wood fired pizza oven for cooking. There is a picnic table and fire ring at the campsite.  This campground is located on the Flying J Farm, a sustainable farm where we practice regenerative agriculture growing grass-fed, grass-finished beef, maple syrup, and vegetables, chemical free, no antibiotics, and no hormones. The proprietor is Richard Jensen, a former pilot, professor, writer, and editor, now enjoying retirement as a farmer. Farm products are available to campers for purchase. Site 9 is in the woods (like 6, 7, and 8) on the road past Site 8. (Currently there are no signs, I'm working on it. Meet me at the farm house for directions.)It is on a hill with room to turn around. It is about the same distance to the restroom and dock if you walk on the new trail as a shortcut. It is surrounded by sugar maples that provide a beautiful canopy. This site is perfect for forest therapy. You can drive right to the site. It is about 350 steps to the restroom which is in the cabin. Please carry away your trash.

Beautiful place to camp. Quiet, peaceful and relaxing. We camped during the labor day weekend and occupied site 5 which is at the edge of the big pond and secluded. It rained on our first night which made the ground a bit muddy but all the rest of the days we stayed were beautiful. The mosquitoes were relentless however which we were warned about. Richard was a wonderful host who visited and checked on us daily. We definitely will be back - would love to see this place during fall. Would love to explore the hiking trails next time. The route to reach this place is so picturesque- meandering roads with beautiful views of central ohio country side.

We loved tent camping at Site 3! The scenery was pretty, the lake was right next to our site so we got plenty of fishing, caught some large mouth bass! We went out on the lake in the provided boat and really enjoyed the view, the algae is bad this time of year but that’s no fault of the host. The place was well kept and clean, there is a cabin with a flushable toilet just a short walk away which was very convenient. Our only complaint is that the occupants of Site 2, which is located pretty close to where we pitched our tent, were very, very loud during the day and also in the middle of the night and made it extremely difficult to enjoy the serenity. I really didn’t wanna hear all “romance” if you get what I mean … if I had kids with me it would have been an issue because that was just ridiculous. Besides that, we had a really good time! I would definitely recommend!

This is one of my favorite places to camp. We've been to Flying J Farms a few times now and have stayed in 3 different sites, all have been wonderful and a nice private distance from the other sites. Despite the fact that all the sites were booked it was still peaceful and quiet and the few times we saw other campers they were always lovely. Richard, as always, was wonderful and invited us to pick some apples from the orchard on our way out. They were crisp, tart, and delicious!

We really enjoyed this camp! We were on site 7 and could see and hear other campsites but we still felt like it was far more private than a campground. We were able to tie our reactive dog on a lead to a tree and she was able to relax since we weren’t surrounded by people. We went Labor Day weekend when we’d otherwise avoided campgrounds and the first night we heard music from a venue or bar but the next day/night was really quiet. The lake was covered in algae so we didn’t go on it but we knew that going into it. The property was great, we even got to pick apples from his apple orchard. Trails weren’t walkable but with the amount of rain we had recently (11 days straight) Richard couldn’t keep up with mowing it, which was fair. Without the trails, we were able to walk the dog to the front of the property which was almost a mile one way so we were really happy with that. Mosquitos were the only not fun part of the trip but they’ve been bad lately in general so it was to be expected. The cabin is rustic and was nice to have a flushable toilet and sink. Would definitely go back!

We had an amazing time at flying j farms. The layout of the farm was beautiful. We were originally greeted by the most precious pup that escorted us to the farm house. Camp site #2 was amazing , there was the perfect amount of shade and privacy with an amazing view of the lake. Richard himself was very kind and accommodating, he even came by to check in and make sure we were settled/ had any questions. All in all 10/10 would recommend.

I had the whole place to myself, what's not to love. A very peaceful stay with lots to explore. It's a working farm so expect to hear cows and equipment. Mosquitoes were relentless, bring the repellent.

This was my second trip to Richard’s property! The space was so quaint and peaceful. You can hear the local high school football games on Friday night, but they end early enough and add charm to the experience. This is such a great place to get away for a slice of nature close to Columbus. Very pup friendly! Lots of things to smell and places to walk. I will absolutely be coming back whenever I get the chance!

We were already talking about how excited we were to come back after only being there for a few hours! Sites are very easy to find, with signs and arrows pointing you in the right direction! Our goal when booking our site (site 9) was to relax and take in the beautiful scenery, which is exactly what we did! Richard's land will always have a very special place in my heart. There was algae in the lake but that didn't stop us from going out on the canoe! Everything about our visit was perfect, and having a flush toilet a short and easy walk away was a huge plus! Thank you Richard!

Very nice and peaceful camping spot. This spot is in the woods and fully shaded. Restroom is easy to walk to. Richard was friendly and came to check on us. The kids had a blast. I was hoping to see more stars at night but I think we were still too close to the city for that. Would definitely camp here again.

We had the best time at Flying J Farm! Everything was so easy to access, and our campsite felt perfectly tucked away beneath the trees. Having the barn just a short walk away with a flushable toilet and shower was such a bonus. We really enjoyed learning about the history of the farm, and Richard was incredibly kind and welcoming. We truly appreciate the hospitality and had an amazing weekend. We’ll definitely be back, and we highly recommend Flying J Farm to anyone looking for a peaceful, memorable camping experience!

The Lake at Flying J Farm was nothing like the description and photos from their own current website. The "Lake" is a 5-acre lake completely covered in algae & seaweed. I went there thinking my son, 2 grandsons & I could fish & boat all day. That was NOT the case - the one time we tried to take the boat they provide out it was full of water - then the oar locks won't stay in due to the constant entanglement with weeds. When I asked the owner how long the algae covers the lake - he said from May to October. The "full" bath they describe located in the cabin was a toilet and a small shower stall - neither of which had been cleaned in a while. The hot water lines had been disconnected - cold water showers only. The cabin itself looks like it had been left to the elements - windows ajar so long weeds were growing in between the screen and glass. Although they say the is solar power - it barely kept the outside light on - thus no lights when you are in there at night. The outdoor kitchen they talk & show in their photos - has gone to pot too. It was also inconvenient to have to open and close pasture gates to get to the camp site - especially in the rain. I read comments from others - after I got there - & agree that the owner is too old to maintain the place - & cannot afford to hire help - thus the continued degrading of the campgrounds. The final insult was the owners old dog bit me when I was at their little store - & had to go to urgent care 30 mins away.

This Hipcamp was great. We only camped for 1 night and decided to stay inside the chapel instead of bringing a tent to keep things easy. The chapel itself would probably be hot if it’s over 85 during the day and we didn’t experience any rain to know if it’s water tight, but we were plenty comfortable and two screened windows allowed for airflow. Sites are spacious, even though neighboring sites are fairly close. The host responded quickly and was very nice. My 10 year old is already asking to come back 🙂

Nice, quiet location. Lots of interesting wildlife, around the pond. Rowboat and kayaks are free for campers to use! Pretty trails around the property. Owner is very nice, came by to say hello on day one, and kindly showed up to Jumpstart my car on our last day!

We had a wonderful time at site 6. Definitely one of the better campsites we have had. It is perfectly nestled in the woods with great views of the lake. A bit of a walk to the restroom but nothing excessive and worth it for the privacy. The host was very accommodating and responsive. Only downside was that the lake was overgrown with algae which made fishing and kayaking/canoeing difficult but there is a smaller pond on the property where my sons and I were able to catch many good sized fish.

Richard's farm is beautiful and he kindly checks in on the campers each day to see if anything is needed. The off-grid cabin is a short walk from site 1 and has running water and a toilet, which I assume is a luxury for most Hipcamps (this was our first)! We had a great time fishing the smaller pond (maybe 0.5 mile from the sites along the driveway) and I appreciate that the sites are spaced out nicely. The only downside for us was a lot of poison ivy on the edges of the site, but if you stay on dirt or grass it's easy enough to avoid; only mentioning in case anyone reading gets it badly and should avoid completely.

We loved tent camping at Flying J! This was our first time taking our kids out and we had such a relaxing and fun time. We camped at site 1 and it felt very private although the sites closest to us were empty. Our second night we were the only campers so we got then entire place to ourselves! We took the hike to bent tree and sadly it was damaged by a storm. We camped in July and the pond was unfishable, so keep that in mind if you’re here to catch some fish. All in all, we had a great time and will definitely be back!

Flying J Farm was a great place to camp. The site was level and had nice tree cover (which helped with the sweltering temperatures). The host was AWESOME and helpful throughout the stay...Would recommend checking this place out to any new hipcampers. We didn't get to explore the lake as much as we would have like due to some pervasive algae growth. It may be due to the time of the year. Looking forward to coming back to camp and have more lake time when it clears!

Site 1 was absolutely gorgeous and well shaded! Took a second to realize the bathroom was in the Learning Center/Lake Barn. Would definitely recommend to anyone!
