On my search for a place start a little sustainable farmstead, the affordability of land brought me back to my home state of Ohio in the teensy town of Bainbridge. Consisting of 15 acres, this sweet little property is just over 50% wooded with the rest available for infrastructural development and agriculture.
The land was purchased in 2015 and is still pretty bare thus far. A modest cabin (where I live) was built in the woods in 2016 and a small (1/4 acre) pond was dug in the clearing. Young fruit trees, berries and grapes were planted in 2016 and we have converted an old shed and gazebo into a guest cabin and outdoor kitchen. We also have chickens and a sugaring shack for cooking down maple syrup, and we hope to raise a nice big barn with a finished loft in the near future. Slow and steady progress!
