Description

Venture nine miles down a dirt road outside of Vernon, Utah, and once you arrive at the Vernon Reservoir Campground, you’ll feel like you’ve just stepped off the grid and into a faraway wilderness. Tucked away in the Uinta National Forest, this campground rests on a lush green hillside with views of the reservoir peeking out between the trees. Spend a few days relaxing in this serene escape and enjoy uninterrupted hours of fishing—the most popular activity at Vernon Reservoir.

This campground is in a beautiful setting, but unless you’re into dirt bikes and OHVs, I wouldn’t recommend it. There are only 12 established campsites, each with deteriorating shelters, picnic tables and fire pits, however dispersed camping appears to be allowed in an unlimited way. When we were there, midweek, there were around 50 RVs parked around the reservoir. What could be a very beautiful and pleasant getaway is being ruined by the lack of oversight in this free, National Forest campground.
