We bought our property in 2003. Built our completely off-grid cabin in 2009, and moved out here full time in 2015. Since 2015 we've been continually improving our property and in 2019 had the idea to start a small campsite on the backside of our property in a private valley. A valley that while private and secluded has excellent 360 degree views.

Are you looking for a secluded adventure? Is being remote a priority? Dark skies and stars with not one artificial light? Surrounded by mountains? We've saved a spot just for you!
What you need to know: -High clearance not always needed but recommended.
- 12' X 12' shade structure!
- 360° panoramic views!
- You need good tires to safely get to the campsite. You will travel about 7 miles down dusty dirt roads to get to your campsite. These roads are maintained by Terlingua Ranch and can vary wildly from smooth 25 mph conditions to high clearance only with bad rains. Contact Brad if you have concerns about road conditions.
- Composting toilet. We've converted a Porta-potty into a composting toilet. To keep it out of your sight it's a short walk away from the campsite.
- This campground is private and remote but conveniently located within 15-20 minutes of Terlingua Ranch Lodge and the Bad Rabbit . They are well stocked with great food, Wi-Fi, ice, beer, and other necessities.
- This is an off grid campground. If you are looking to unplug, this place is for you.
- Mule deer, Javalina, lots of birds, and the unique desert plants.
- We strive to provide a campsite that is equal to, if not better, than the state and national park campsites.
- This looks close to the park on the map, but there are mountains that you have to drive around to get to either entrance. The drive to the Study Butte entrance is about 1 hour. If you have 4X4 and high clearance you can get to the 385 entrance in about 1 hour 15 minutes. Ask Brad about this route.
- Best to arrive before dark.
- Terlingua Ranch Lodge, located about 4 miles away. The Bad Rabbit Café serves good food. (Hours fluctuate). Also, during the summer you can buy a key from the Lodge to swim in the pool ($7/day). At the pool you can have a hot shower.
- You can have use a camp stove/charcoal grill to cook with during a fire ban. You have to supply the stove/grill. No wood fires are allowed.
- The owners home is located nearby, but out of sight. If you have an emergency, the house has a landline and other resources you might need.
If you've read this far and this doesn't scare you off, we are looking forward to hosting your camping adventure!

Perdido campsite offers campers a serene escape with its peaceful environment and stunning views. Guests appreciate the isolation, making it perfect for those looking to unplug. The host, Brad, is noted for being communicative and helpful, enhancing the overall experience. However, some visitors mentioned the remote location and rough roads, suggesting that travelers should be prepared for a bit of an adventure getting there.
This is a beautiful, remote campground with a 360 degree view of mountains. We used it as a home base as we explored the Big Bend area, but it would be ideal for people looking to get away from everything for a few days. Just make sure you come with everything you need.
The views were great, and it felt very remote. Waking up to the sunrise in the morning was incredible. The other campsite was visible on the walk to the bathroom, but there was no one there, so we had the space all to ourselves, which was wonderful.
Had a great stay at this campsite. The area was clean, peaceful, and well-maintained. Plenty of space to relax and enjoy nature, especially at sunset. Would definitely come back and recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet getaway.
We truly enjoyed our time at this campsite. Very clean and secluded. The hosts were very easy to communicate with and made the directions clear to follow. The surrounding views were gorgeous and there was plenty to explore around the campsite. There is a long commute to the site which we made in a Nissan versa, and while it was definitely an adventure, we would recommend taking something with some more meaty tires. But if you’re feeling brave like us, just air down your tires a little and take it real slow. We would absolutely recommend this site to anyone looking to unplug and go on an adventure 🫶
I loved every second of it, from the amazing views and location, to the drive up to getting there. This place is amazing and well taken care of, I would recommend going with somewhat of a high clearance and a good set of headlights if you expect to get there at night. I would absolutely go there again and would love to be a regular.
Great host and even better directions! I would stay there again. Great compost toilet and awesome view.
Host gave me so many tips about the area and how to navigate with No cell signal.
We were looking for a remote camping experience and Perdido #1 was perfect in every way. The site had fantastic views, exceptional peace, and the cleanest composting toilet we've ever experienced. Already thinking about when we can return.
We really enjoyed tent camping at Perdido campsite. We enjoyed how peaceful quiet it was out there in the desert with no neighbors. There was another campsite but they were far enough and we didn’t really hear them. I would definitely come back because it was so relaxing to get away from everything for a little while. Brad was nice and helpful. Loved sunrise on the property.
Bradley’s land was perfect. We stayed in our 2004 RWD Ford E-250 van and while the road to the site was a bit bumpy we made it without any issues. The views were amazing, the vibes were spectacular, the host was communicative and provided detailed instructions for getting to the site and around the property. Couldn’t ask for a better first Hipcamp experience. 10/10, would absolutely stay again.
Fantastic experience. Land was quiet, views were great, the host was friendly and communicative, and the stars had extremely good visibility a few days after a new moon.
It took us about 1 hour to drive into Big Bend and an hour and a half to make it to the south rim trail, making it a good day trip from this destination.
Our Mazda CX5 was able to handle the conditions of the dirt road leading into the property without problems.
Beautiful area, like you’re dropped in the middle of the mountains! It’s secluded and so peaceful. The toilet was clean and we had everything we needed. Definitely recommend if you want to get away.
Incredible place on the north side of the Christmas Mtns! Love it. No light pollution and amazing tranquility. Cannot wait to return. Very friendly host! Thank you!!
My family and I had an amazing time. The night sky was filled with incredible stars. Coyotes would visit our campsite at night while we were sleeping, so it’s important to keep your food stored away. Deer would visit in the mornings too. If you’re seeking privacy, this is the place to be.
Beautiful secluded spot. Responsive and helpful hosts if needed. Long bumpy dirt road on the last couple miles. Truck/suv tires are fine, but would be rough on car tires. If visiting Big Bend keep in mind it’s about 1-1.5hrs to the park entrance from there. So plan ahead. Would come back for how quiet it is and the views.
The posting for this campsite by this host does not even begin to describe how beautiful and off grid this place was. Met briefly with the host and truly enjoyed the stay. If you are looking for a beginner's off-road experience and a place to unplug from the world this place is perfect. I highly recommend it. There were places to hike and the stargazing made this trip worth it.
This camp is on the edge of the Christmas Mtns. The peace and quiet was just what we needed to let go of the stresses of life. Having the shelter for shade provided just the right place to setup a hammock and take a much needed afternoon nap. If only I could duplicate the serenity of this site at home. Then life would be perfect. Brad was an excellent host and we are already planning our next trip.
We love the mountains the shrouded the camp site. It was peaceful. We call it our place to disconnect from stress. We visited there two years ago fo our honeymoon. We are planning to go back an visit soon. We wished we would have booked more days.
Back for a fourth two-week visit, enjoyed myself more than ever. I come for the solitude, which is far greater than you'd expect from driving down a few miles of dirt road. The campsite is literally ringed by mountains, a bowl that mostly hides what few buildings are in the vicinity. Brad and Marilynn's acreage backs up against state-owned land (which you're welcome to explore), so you really do have a vast area to yourself. No mechanical noises aside from what you bring with you, plus the occasional private plane using the Terlingua Ranch airport a few miles away. Sunrises and sunsets are the best!
This is a truly beautiful spot! There are SO many geological treasures around this place to marvel over. ( I must have taken 500 photos lol) we also got to watch a jack rabbit around camp! We stayed when a bunch of ice/weather came through so it was nice to have the shaded table to store extra outside items from the elements.
I highly recommend this spot, and we will definitely be staying a few more days next time to take in everything that this little slice of beautiful desert has to offer.
Great location and was very scenic. Was quiet and felt like we had the valley to ourselves! Wasn’t hard to find and enjoyed the campsite. Bradley was a great host and we will consider booking with him again in the future!
The campsite is very remote and takes a while to get there, but once you're there, it's incredible. Bradley does an amazing job at keeping the space clear and clean and the composting toilet is a great addition! We saw a pack of javelinas and mule deer on the ridge right outside our site and it was incredible! One day, we ventured over to the Bad Rabbit Cafe for lunch and it's nice having that so close!
We loved this campsite. It provides great view, privacy, and also quiet environment. If you have kids this would be a great place. A family casual walk to the mountains and enjoy the beautiful desert view. If you are lucky, you can also see deers from the mountain top. In the night, you can appreciate the sky full of stars. The toilet is close.
Very peaceful spot! Extremely quiet and beautiful view! Especially at night with all the stars you can see! Super nice host! He came down and greeted us when he came out to check the toilet on site.
Location was amazing. Very remote and secluded. There are no other homes or camps visible from the campsite, it is very peaceful and quiet, and you get a great view of the Chihuahuan Desert's hills and plants. Note that you should follow the host's directions, if you take alternate routes make sure to have 4 wheel drive. I would not recommend low clearance vehicles since the last several miles of road are unpaved and rocky.
