My family and I really enjoyed our time at the Morningwood :) The host was great and the location was very close to town. The spot we stayed at definitely requires a 4wd vehicle but there are other spots that were much more accessible. We were able to hike around the property which is very large and we definitely enjoyed the bird filled forest vibe.

We had a great stay here and would definitely come back.
We booked the container site, which leans more toward glamping than traditional camping - having a real structure and a bed made it super comfortable while still feeling like a getaway. The property itself is really nice, with an outhouse within easy walking distance and a sink with running water, which was a big plus.
The 4WD access is short but definitely steep, so just be prepared for that. Once you’re up there, it’s worth it. We enjoyed exploring some small hikes around the property and also spent a good amount of time in town, which is just a quick drive away.
The only downside is that the site sits fairly close to the road, so you do get some street noise. It wasn’t a dealbreaker for us, but something to be aware of if you’re looking for total silence.
The owner was great - very friendly, responsive, and even met us on arrival to give a quick tour, which we appreciated.
Overall, a really solid spot for a comfortable, easy Idyllwild getaway.

Our group stayed in both the Canvas Tent and the Creekside Container Cabin, and the combination of these two rentals made for a truly unique and unforgettable getaway. The Canvas Tent was the perfect place to immerse ourselves in the beauty of nature. The full-size futon and bunk bed provided plenty of space, and while we brought our own bedding as directed, it felt cozy and well-equipped. The setting was serene and private, and we loved stargazing around the property each night. The composting toilet was easy to access, and the addition of the sink was a thoughtful touch for convenience.
With the Creekside Container Cabin just a short walk away, we had the luxury of alternating between the rugged charm of the Canvas Tent and the cozy comfort of the cabin. This setup is ideal if you’re traveling with a group or family and want a mix of traditional camping and "glamping." The property is also close to downtown Idyllwild, hiking trails, and other outdoor attractions, so there’s always something to do. We can’t say enough great things about the property owners – their attention to detail, friendly communication, and genuine hospitality really made our trip special. Whether you’re booking just the Canvas Tent or both spots like we did, you won’t regret it!

We had the pleasure of renting both the Creekside Container Cabin and the Canvas Tent during our stay, and it was such an amazing experience! The Creekside Container Cabin was perfect for those moments when we wanted a bit more comfort and structure. The beautifully handcrafted furniture added such a charming and personal touch to the space, and the big picture window allowed us to soak in the gorgeous surroundings from the cozy indoors. Having a sink with gravity-operated water and the nearby composting toilet was convenient, and the large patio with bar seating became our favorite spot to relax with a morning coffee. The fact that bedding and basic kitchen supplies were provided made our stay even easier. The cabin has a thoughtful design and provides an ideal "glamping" experience – not overly fancy, but still comfortable and immersive in nature.
What made our trip even better was being able to pair this cabin with the Canvas Tent, giving us options to enjoy both a cozy indoor space and a more rugged camping experience for our group. Both sites are close enough to offer the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation, all within minutes of downtown Idyllwild. The hosts were incredibly accommodating, and their warm hospitality made everything even better. We highly recommend this rental – or better yet, rent both and enjoy the best of both worlds like we did!

We’ve stayed here multiple times and absolutely LOVE this site! It’s like something out of a fairytale. My son even requested to come here for his birthday because it’s his most favorite place ❤️ We will definitely be back!

This spot is very private! Great spot for star gazing and exploring along the mountain side. Perfect for dogs to roam off leash (with supervision, the owner warned of occasional mountain lions). We went in August and the day was very hot but the evenings were very pleasant. The trail going up to the location is short but DEFINITELY requires 4WD. The campsite had everything you need and the owners were very responsive and even came out to guide us in to the spot. We for sure will be coming back again!

The location was a great little getaway and close enough to the town center to do some shopping/exploring & hiking.
The tent was gorgeous, clean, well equipped shelter, good views & the compost toilet was clean as well.
The nights get cold, and I brought plenty of bedding to stay warm.
I will definitely be coming back, maybe with a group of friends the next time.

We had a great time! The canvas tent is very spacious and clean. The bed was extremely comfortable which was a huge plus so we didn't have to use our sleeping pads. The sink and toilet were also very convenient. We will definitely be back.

We enjoyed staying at the BYO tent site and exploring Idyllwild for the weekend!
A few notes from our stay:
-The site is a 5-minute drive to downtown! It does sit near a road, so there is slight car noise, but you can’t see the road or cars from the site, so it feels very private.
-The hosts were very communicative. They met us upon arrival and let us know when they would be stopping by the property.
-The site is large and easily accommodated our two-person tent, truck, dog, and hammock. It could accommodate a lot larger, too! There’s a small drop-down that could fit a small second tent too. The sun shines on the site from around 10 am-3 pm this time of year.
-You’ll definitely need 4WD; the grade is steep to get to the site. The compost toilet is at the top of the hill, so you’ll need to be able-bodied to get to the top as well.
-The water spigot worked great, and there was a bear box at the site to store food.

Lots of road noise. Ground was powdery loose dirt, so it can get dusty. The spot we chose had no shade whatsoever- even with an awning, it was hot.

Great little spot. Super close to town. Definitely need legit 4x4. It was pretty steep and a little rutted heading out. Kinda steep on foot. No prob with a 4x4.
Didn’t love that I could hear the highway from the camp but other than that it was great.

This was a great little getaway for me and my dog! I loved that we could explore the property off leash. It’s a lovely spot, quiet and peaceful among the trees, yet super close to town and hiking trails. The hosts were great and easy to communicate with, too. Hopefully we’ll be back sometime!

Love the proximity of the stream and the container home/site they are working on. I knew it was a very hot weekend even at this elevation (high ~90 degrees). But I had already booked in advance and wanted to try out the location. Definitely had to use the awning on my 4Runner and put up some tarps for 270 degree sun protection. Had to take my springer spaniel down to the trickling creek multiple times, maybe 200 feet down the property, to keep him cool.
The site is completely exposed from maybe 11am-4pm during July, so bring some pop up canopies. Also bring good boots or trail runners, as the path down to the creek is steep and leafy/slippery.
There are tons of amazing hikes that start nearby. I will be back in fall/spring when the temps are more conducive to hiking with my dog.
I did get to test out my Dometic dual zone cooler in the heat running on my Jackery 1000 pro, and it performed very efficiently considering the temps!
The canvas tent (?) site ~200 feet above me was much better shaded.

We roof top tent camped at the property and it was epic. We had so ample and excess room at the site for camping and for the kids to play. We lucked out for sure! The drive up was beautiful, and super close to town (even though we never left camp). The host welcomed us when we arrived and gave us the full run-down. Communication was done over text and they were quick and responsive. Even though there was hiking and a rope swing (which the kids loved) the trail was very sloped and not easy for the young kids. I would definitely recommend some hiking boots if you go exploring. I will 100% be booking this site again! I had 4x4 and the hill was easy… but if you are driving a basic car without 4x4 or awdc you will struggle getting up and down to the campsite.

Very nice and flat site very close to hiking trails and the center of town. You can hear a little highway noise and also take serious note that you will absolutely need 4WD to access the site. It's not a long road, but there is a steep section to get down to the site. Also a very nice compost toilet which is always a bonus when camping!

I enjoyed my time at this rustic camping spot, easy to find, clean, scenic. Dogs enjoyed being able to run around off leash with supervision. We saw deer and owls on the property, did some exploring and hiked down to the stream.

4WD to Creekside Container Cabin
Had an amazing stay at this unique slice of paradise. The highlight had to be watching our dog have the time of her life running around while we explored the 12 acres that this site sits on. With waterfalls, creeks, and unique rock formations, this site offered a great alternative to local trails that get busy on weekends and where dogs have to be on leash (for good reason!). The site was very secluded, and we only saw other campers on the property once, from a distance. There is a bit of road noise, but the waterfall from the creek right outside your front door drowns it out. The dirt road in was as described - nothing a stock AWD with clearance/4wd couldn't handle, but I'm sure the road conditions change throughout the year.
The shipping container was quite cozy and well equipped with dishware, basic cookware, and linens. We brought additional lighting, blankets, and towels (our dog went nuts sprinting around in the mud) which proved useful. Overall, the space was thoughtfully designed and we appreciated all the extra touches! We had grand plans to go adventure elsewhere, but ended up enjoying most of our time right there at camp.
It's so rare to find this kind of seclusion so close to town. We used this site as an opportunity to test some new gear knowing all the comforts where there for us if it failed. But this would also be an amazing site for adventure ready kids or trips where you don't want to do a ton of planning.

Gorgeous forest location right near Idyllwild! We stayed in the canvas tent and also set up a rooftop tent adjacent to the canvas spot. Our kids had a blast exploring the property and finding the little creek. The trees and surrounding area are magical! The hiking trails are steep and a good workout so be sure to bring good boots. We saw deer and enjoyed the little birds that hopped right over to our site. The canvas tent was clean and had a nice sink area for washing up. The compostable toilet area was very well maintained and clean. Driving the roadway loop on the property would be tricky if you didn’t have the right type of vehicle as the roads are very steep, but the host communicated this to us well in advance so we were prepared.

Great communication with the hosts! Perfect spot to get into town and explore the surrounding area. Overlooks a cute little creek and the rope swing isn’t too far off. Make sure you’re ok with a composting toilet. Consider bringing a lantern and power banks for your phones since there’s no electricity. We brought our headlamps but we felt like we should’ve brought our little camp lantern to set the mood. Overall, amazing spot! Would love to come back. Oh and we had a Subaru Outback with AWD and it did fine. Definitely a steep short climb though so make sure your car is ready for it

We had the best time at Morningwood! The site was super exclusive and had amazing views. We unfortunately weren’t able to make it to the creek but cannot wait to come back and stay and the creek side site! Kate and her husband were so great, always there to communicate and more than accommodating. Highly recommend staying here if you’re looking for a beautiful getaway in Idyllwild

We absolutely loved our time here! The hosts were very accommodating and attentive to our needs. We liked the amenities provided, such as toilet, sink, chairs, futon, cots, and lanterns. The hosts went above and beyond to make sure we had a good stay. Our dogs had a blast as well! We want to come back here again and would definitely recommend this place to others!
