Description

Davy Crockett may not have made it to Idaho, but if he had, Squirrel Meadows Cabin would’ve been home base. Set at 6,500 feet in the Yellowstone Plateau, the cabin is surrounded by pines, with views of the distant mountains, and is home to a zoo of fierce wildlife – black bear, wolf, elk, moose, mule, deer, bison, grizzlies and mountain lions. Venture to the cabin year-round for adventures including horseback riding, berry picking (summer only!) cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The cabin, built in 1934, doesn’t have electricity, but there are bunkbeds, mattresses, a wood stove for cooking, table and chairs, dishes, tableware and cooking pots, as well as a hand pump, vault toilet, picnic table and horse corrals outside. Firewood is also available. What’s missing? Bedding, matches, emergency items (i.e., first aid kit) and trash bags.
