Welcome to our little piece of paradise! 55 acres of woods hidden near town. A network of trails criss-cross the creek and wind throughout the property under a peaceful canopy of large beautiful trees. Don't be surprised if you run into deer, squirrels, or roadrunners! Our property is home to a wide variety of hill-country wildlife.

 - Each of our campsites are private and surrounded by forest.

 - Our trees are our most precious natural resource and set this campground apart! Please don't do anything to harm them.

 - Port-o-john available on site.

 - All of our campsites are primitive. No electric or water here.

 - When you camp with us you are welcome to explore and play on  the entire property! We have 55 acres of trails and woods to explore! Please bring your bikes, trail shoes, or whatever helps you have fun in the wild!

 - Hammocks welcome! We have so many trees! All of our sites are hammock friendly.

 - When you check in, your host will help you find your campsite.

 - Some sites are drive-in where your vehicle can park right next to the fire. Others are walk-in and require a short hike of 100' or less from your parking space. You can indicate your preference during booking or at check-in.

If you want to drive right in to your site, Campsites 2, 6, & 12 are the sites you want.

Some of our campsites are more secluded than the others and offer extreme privacy in the most beautiful settings we have to offer. If you're looking for a wilder campsite surrounded by huge old trees and and all the peace the woods have to offer, just request Campsites 4, 5, 7, or 8. Each of these sites require a walk of at least 50' from your vehicle to the fire ring.

Site 13 is only for backpackers or people willing to hike about 500 yards to the campsite. There is no way to drive to it or even get close except on foot. But it is spectacular and beautiful!

Only two sites can accommodate a trailer or camper. Site 1 and site 6. Please notify me in your booking if you intend to bring a camper and I can accommodate you.

Heads-up! We have a small farm on the property where we raise domestic goats, chickens, and pigs.

Dogs are always welcome and we LOVE our furry friends! For their safety and the safety of our livestock please keep them leashed while on property.

The Braun Oaks Campground in Helotes, TX is a little gem hidden right outside of San Antonio, TX just half a mile off of the main loop. When you come in, you immediately see a couple of more developed campsites fire rings and log seating, but if you go further into the quieter part of the property, you find other more primitive sites with the perk of getting to bring your car! The campsites closer to the entrance had a little more traffic noise than the back of the property.

I came with a group of 5 less experienced campers, so we chose a more developed site close to the entrance where the restroom facility is located. We set up camp, started a fire, and then spent about an hour putting our vehicle in 4WD and exploring the property. James has clearly taken time to make his land fun for dirt bikes and 4-wheelers as there were lots of cool jumps on his many trails that we really enjoyed! You can tell that James really prides himself in his little piece of paradise close to the city. His property was well maintained and pocketed all through out the property, you could find little collections of things like fencing, logs, and tires that gave us the impression that he had in mind to create something with all of it.

We saw rabbits, armadillos, and tons of birds on the property. At night we fell asleep to the sounds of crickets, rain drops falling, and the faint sound of traffic in the distance, which was worth it to us to be 10 minutes from Government Canyon Natural Area, Sea World, La Cantera Mall, Six Flags, and pretty much any restaurant, coffee shop, or San Antonio style raspa stand your heart could desire.

I highly recommend spending a night or two at Braun Oaks Campground!

We found some sturdy trees to hang up hammocks and lights! Making a little campfire chili before settling in for the night. The campsites are a true reflection of Texas brush and windy oaks! campfire amenity

Great location and fantastic staff! I saw 4 deer come through my campsite right around sunset! James helped me build a fire ring, let me use their spare hammock, and even let me borrow his nice lantern because I forgot mine. I would rate my experience a 10/10 and will definitely try to make my way back!

We loved it! A great location, beautiful secluded property but still close to town. Short Uber ride to Floores music venue. The trails are great for biking and hiking. What a great escape from the RV parks. We were able to dry camp with our 20 ft travel trailer so awesome!!!!

Braun Oaks was exactly what I wanted and more than I ever expected, especially with it being so close to San Antonio. We wanted to do some primitive camping for my husband's birthday, but most parks were already full or closed from weather. James was amazingly welcome, and we just adored our site that made us feel out in the wild. From the rugged trails, to the cute creek crossings, I couldn't have asked for more. We actually had a wild pig come across our site at night, but the dogs scared it away before we had a sighting. But the little oinks and squeals were exciting enough. We definitely will be back to camp here.

Lost Woods CampgroundRunning with goats! Lovely little stream crossings throughout the propertyCouldn't have a better sunrise

The campsite was perfect. Exactly what we were looking for. Nice place to get away from the city for a few days without having to drive hours away. Highly recommend. James introduced himself too. Awesome dude! Will be back!
