Plenty Star Ranch, a Nature Retreat in the Southern Black Hills and the private home of Jack and Isa Kirk, located right along Hwy 385, 9.5 miles South of Custer, SD or 2 miles North of Pringle, SD and the 110 miles long Mickelson Trail from Deadwood to Edgemont (mile marker 34/35). We cater to adult guests, age of 16+, traveling without pets, seeking solitude and peace in Black Hills' amazing nature, spending a few nights or more at our beautiful place in the Southern Black Hills of SD. 9.5 miles South of Custer, and close to all the major attractions in the Black Hills, like Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Mountain, we are a popular stopover for bikers and hikers, pitching a tent, hooking up their RV or sleeping comfortably in our Lakota style tipi or in one of our 2 rustic 1-bedroom home/hand-built camping log cabins.
The restroom for all campers is attached to our garage with a toilet and warm water sink about 30 yards from the a tent roof covered building with 2 rooms to be used with solar camping shower bags, located next to the cabins. There is a picture of the best bags we found, if you prefer to use your own bags. I fill several of ours in the morning with cold tap water, which heats up during the day, ready for use, cooling down again after sundown.
All hydrants are connected to our well, providing great drinking water (tested regularly)
Graveled parking space to the left of the outdoor shower building. There is also a large, approved campfire pit for all camping guests. Off the ground grills are allowed, no other fires close to the ground.
Regular check-in time is between 4 pm and 8 pm at our home on the place net to the garage. There is also always a light shining on the restroom attached at the garage . We are usually open May through September. Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, some fruit or oatmeal on our porch in the morning from 7:30 am to 9:30 am. Our fast guest WiFi reaches throughout the campground. However, the only cell service for a few miles around the ranch is AT&T. We enjoy to keep our peaceful place clean, as well as smoke and drug free and I hope you respect and appreciate this as much as we do. Sorry, no guest pets, no exception, not even service dogs, since I am very allergic to dog hair. Tent sites are offered for 2 persons max. If there are more people in your group, book more sites and set up your tents anywhere in the offered locations. You can park your cars very close or in some areas right at your tent.
While at the ranch, explore Jack's Custom Barn Wood Frames & Furniture shop and Isa’s art work and Black Hills Flower Essences products or if you are so inclined, plan in a little time for an intuitive Tarot Reading with Isa – you might just, like so many before you over the last 3 decades, walk away amazed and inspired.

We enjoyed the view at our campsite, it's surrounded by forest service land which provides a lovely sightseeing walk. There are a few cats roaming around who were very friendly. Isa and Jack were welcoming and provided some coffee and fruit in the mornings. The back campsite was pretty private, and there was lots of wildlife around. The only thing that I didn't love was the closeness to the road since there's pretty consistent traffic during the night but I slept through it for the most part.

This site is a great place to stay! Isa was warm & welcoming, the bathroom was clean, and the views were incredible! The available fruit, oatmeal & coffee was an added bonus.
The location is great, very easy to get to Custer state park.
Highly recommend staying here!
This is hosted by a private owner and is a great place!. Not over crowded , very beautiful surrounding and the hosts are very friendly. They even serve tea/coffea and oatmeals in the mornings by their deck area.
Isa and Jack are great hosts. We had a nice spit to camp, we were able to hang our hammock, snd park very close to our campground. The central location between Custer and Hot Springs!was convenient for our trip to the southern hills. The restroom facility was very clean and functional. The ability to use the solar shower was great after a big day of hiking. Coffee and tea served in the deck was a nice perk and gave us a chance to meet other campers. We also enjoyed the use of their forest service approved fire pit for an impromptu campfire our last night.
Peaceful, quite, Very friendly host present and helpful. Big plus: sustainable solutions!!! I was in tent, but- next time (if I happened to be in SD) I will aim for tipi!
Thank you, Isa, for a lovely stay!!!
This place is a gem, slightly tucked away from all the touristy hubbub of the Black Hills area... and yet right in the heart of it. Isa and Jack are superb hosts, as is their sweet kitty. The vibe is relaxed, and things like hot shower bags warmed in the day's sun, covered porch, hot coffee in the AM all make it a memorable stay. They offer several types of accommodation, and have stories galore. There is some highway noise, so bring your ear plugs. Otherwise, prepare to be charmed!

Was greeted by a purring orange cat
Solo female traveler here and WOW I loved staying here. I had a beautiful tent spot, the showers were basically magical, and there is a private walk on the left side of Isa’s house. It’s like your own private part of South Dakota. The site is by the highway and I felt very safe staying here at night.
Plenty Star ranch is a gorgeous property, in be of those velvety green Black Hills meadows. I was in my mini-camper van, not a tent, but had a site near some beautiful old trees and a small dream. Isa and Jack are delightful hosts and great conversationalists. Breakfast with them (coffee, fruit, a hard-boiled egg) on the veranda was a great way to start the day! There’s something special about staying on a ranch.
