The weather is warm and the site behind our pool is a nice space to be! It is lovely to be in a space where you are the only camper! The tropical gardens provide privacy and abundant bird life. The property is safe and secluded in the rural suburb of Virginia. We are situated in the Darwin Rural area on 5 acres of bush land with tropical gardens and a saltwater swimming pool. There is a variety of bird life, lizards, frogs, and possums. You can feed our friendly butcher birds and King Fishers on the fly from our verandah or pool area. Sit with the fish pond and chat with the turtle who is very shy! We have dogs that live at the property so pets on application only. (we do have a dog cage available if required and can pet sit for a day if required ) We have caravan sites for fully self-contained caravans and unpowered sites in the horse yard. There is a single shower / toilet block available at the top of the driveway. We do have power to some sites, and we would appreciate it if you do not leave air conditioners running while you are off site. If you are travelling in a group, we can accommodate you in a large open area if your group would like to stay together. Each caravan site has its own fireplace for your use. Only 5 minutes from Palmerston or Coolalinga, 25 minutes from Darwin CBD. If you are looking for a local fishing tour, we can hook you up with the locals. Be immersed in the rugged beauty of our Northern bushland, from the luxury of your own fully self contained Van. Open your eyes in the morning to a breathtaking escarpment of native bush. This makes the perfect camp to come home to after exploring Litchfield's waterfalls and attractions. At present we will only be offering 10 self contained sites, so plenty of space not to be on top of each other. We (the owners) live on-site, about a three minute walk from the Van sites. We have also started a little coffee shop at our main camp so you can find us there most days. We are located just 8km from Wangi Falls, one of Litchfield's largest and most iconic waterfalls. For most of the year it is open for swimming. There are also several other smaller water holes nearby. Most water attractions are accessible by car. If you do have a 4WD be sure to go off-road to visit the amazing, less accessible sites.

Camping in Charles Darwin National Park guide

Overview

About

Embark on an adventure at Charles Darwin National Park, where the thrill of mountain biking, bushwalking, and wildlife watching awaits. Immerse yourself in the park's World War II history, marvel at the scenic views from the lookout platform, and enjoy a leisurely picnic amid the lush surroundings. While overnight stays under the stars aren't an option, the park's daily activities from 8am to 7pm offer a full day of exploration and discovery.

When to go

The best time to visit Charles Darwin National Park is during the dry season, from May to October, when the weather is cooler and less humid. The wet season, from November to April, can bring heavy rains and potential park closures, so it's less ideal for visits. Always check the park's status before planning your trip.

Know before you go

  • Check the park's open status by calling 08 8999 4555 before your visit.
  • Wear a hat, protective clothing, and sunscreen, and apply insect repellent with DEET for a comfortable experience.
  • Stay hydrated by carrying plenty of water, especially during warm days.
  • Secure your valuables and lock your vehicle to prevent theft.
  • Remember, drones are not permitted in the park, and pets are restricted to sealed roads and carparks.
