The starry skies from your camp chair at night at magnificent, as are the sunrises and sunsets. Pitch your tent or park your camper anywhere you like on the property, and enjoy access to all amenities. We have easy access for larger vans, good phone reception, and access to water, power and toilet. Just 6km from the famous Berry Springs, and with a pub even closer, makes Thistledo Outback a great option as a base camp to explore the area. Frank is extremely helpful and quick in relying ti questions. Plenty of room in the yard but no access to the river. There is a toilet but when it rains everything gets very wet and very hot toilet seat in the sun with no roof. The door needs to be fixed so it can shut properly. Very close to Berry Springs and Darwin.

Quiet, level, grassy, easy location to be based to check out the local area. Frank the host was excellent to deal with. Loved the no roof on the clean toilet area! Dogs loved having room to roam.

A lukewarm welcome. I had to ask the questions so I knew what was about and available for my use. Shower was not supplied. After that I was happy to be left on my own to enjoy the surrounds, peace and quiet of this beautiful area.

Ok, just. Toilet has no roof and a rock to keep the door closed. A little untidy and not a lot of room. Probably wouldn’t go back.

Lovely green spaces. Very quiet, lots of birds. Maybe fishing in a different season. Hosts were very friendly. Nice spot!

Disappointing Stay — Not What Was P

Thistledoo Outback Riverside Camp
I booked this stay based on the many positive reviews, but my experience was unfortunately quite different. On the first night, extremely bright lights from the main house stayed on all night, making it difficult to sleep. The second night was initially quieter, but around midnight a new group of campers arrived, and the lights were switched back on — again staying on all night. What made it worse was that the host joined this group, and they partied loudly into the early hours. I raised my concerns after the stay and requested a refund, but it was declined with the reason being that I hadn’t spoken up at the time. While I understand the value of communication, guests also have the right to expect a peaceful, respectful environment without needing to manage host behavior during their stay. Overall, I felt the experience was disruptive and inconsiderate, and I would not recommend this site based on how my concerns were handled.

This is nothing that the photo’s or description state, it is sleeping in the blokes back yard. Will tell you that you can camp wherever u want but then gives u about a 10m radius around the house.

Lovely big shady area with flat ground which was handy for us with a soft bottom camper trailer. Water tasted amazing and we felt welcomed. Swam at Berry Springs everyday and was also a good base for checking out the Cox Peninsula.

We absolutely loved our stay at Thistledoo Outback Riverside Camp! So relaxing, perfect place to set up our hammock and relax under the big beautiful trees with a good book. Frank and Liam were the perfect hosts, so friendly and inviting. We throughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend to other campers! Tim & Bree @the_galvins_gap_year

Thistledoo Outback Riverside Camp
Frank & Liam are super accommodating to every need. Our water tank tap fell off quite literally as we arrived & Frank sprung into action & glued it back on for us. We had no trouble finding the property using the address on Google Maps, as the street number is clearly marked on a giant sign on the front fence - can’t miss it. You’ll need to follow the dirt road from the gate until you reach the house, which is a little further back from the road. Easily 2WD & trailer accessible on hard ground so no risk of getting stuck. Sites are drive-through if preferred & plenty of turning space if you don’t like reversing. Perfectly situated amongst shady trees with green grass watered often, power, water, washing machine & toilet. Plenty of space for several campers without being on top of one another. The onsite dump point is a huge convenience if you have an off-grid setup. Resident dog Saint is lovable & loves attention. Darwin River runs out of the dam where one can fish, just a 1 minute stroll from the yard. These fellas have all the local knowledge & can give some really good insights into local places to visit & fish. Night time star gazing is spectacular & so much wildlife. We liked it so much we had to extend! I 100% recommend. We’ll be back - what a gem. Does not disappoint!

We loved our stay at Frank’s property, it was honestly one of the best camping experiences we’ve encountered in Oz. It’s situated in the country side, about half an hour drive from Darwin and only a couple minutes away from the spectacular Berry Springs and a Wildlife Conservation Park. The property is quiet, well maintained and has got all the amenities one could need. There is a creek on a property and lots of charming wildlife around. Frank and his son Liam are very friendly and accomodating. Honestly, what else can you ask for?

Such an epic place to camp. So much room for our dog to run around and play with saint (owners puppy). River down the back was good for a fish. Frank and Liam were so accommodating with power, water, showers, toilet. Everything you need. Will 100% be back to stay here next time we’re around. Thanks heaps to the legends for such a ripper time

I loved tent camping at Frank's acre land! It was clear directions, space was big, for those wanting power, would be best to be nearby his home, those not needing power can camp and settle further back and more privately. We had children with us and we all enjoyed ourselves, would recommend and stay again :)

Fantastic! The host was kind and very accomodating, offered power, bbq and wood. His place is a little slice of peace and tranquility! We enjoyed a lovely walk down by the creek. It has crystal clear water and overhanging trees. Truly beautiful!
