Welcome to Cedar Creek Forest Camping! Voted second best campsite in Canada in 2021 and ranked number 2 in Ontario in 2022. I have 97 acres of very private camping. The forest is a bird watcher’s and nature lover’s paradise. I have developed miles of flat groomed trails and a 3-acre pond (plus several bush ponds). The sites are spread around the pond and are close but not right beside it. There is an abundant amount of wildlife to explore: birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects and mammals call this home. There is a small swimming hole on the island but otherwise the pond is full of aquatic life. The sites and trails are maintained all year long and the forest is quiet and beautiful. I have planted over 3000 trees with the help of the Severn Sound Environmental Association. The forest is registered as a managed woodlot with the province and habitat preservation/restoration is the priority goal. Please DO NOT bring firewood for your visit. I have large bags of cured firewood that was sustainable harvested from the forest available. Invasive insects and disease can be transferred from imported wood. Guests are welcome to quietly explore the forest trails but are asked to stay on the trail. Many birds and animals nest in the forest. My campsite is family-friendly (and pet-friendly), and 420 friendly too. Guests can easily drive up to and park at all campsites. My camp site is tolerant and respectful of all humans, animals and things. The Yurtle structures were built from Hemlock trees that were cut from this forest and processed into boards, then engineered into unique camping huts. Large windows capture the glory of the surrounding forest and sun sets, while wood stoves warm campers on those cold days/nights. Welcome to Yurtle by the pond. Nominated best Glamping structure in Canada. Located on our beautiful 97-acre property, “Yurtle by the Pond” is a newly constructed glamping structure made from hemlock trees that were sustainably harvested from this forest. PLEASE NOTE, campers must arrive by 9 pm at the latest. I will not be able to accommodate campers who arrive later than 9 pm. Please let me know what time you plan on arriving beforehand so I can arrange to meet you.  The bunkie includes a small deck and awning with large windows. There is a futon pull-out bed, solar light, and soft candle lighting. If you are bringing more than 2 guests, you must bring tents as the bunkie only comfortably fits 2 people (there is plenty of space to pitch your tent around the bunkie). The custom made wood stove heats Yurtle nicely and guests stay warm and cozy during the cold winter months. Guests must bring their own bedding. The site can be accessed by a traditional car, no off-roading or 4-wheel drive vehicle is needed. We are a family-friendly (including pets!) campsite. Campfires are permitted and we have a picnic table for you and your group to enjoy your meals. The property is a certified managed forest and is a bird watcher’s and nature lover’s paradise. This cabin is available to book all year round! Located on my beautiful 97-acre property, “The Grand Yurtle ” is a newly constructed glamping structure made from cedar, maple, and hemlock trees that were sustainably harvested from this forest. Please let me know what time you plan on arriving beforehand so I can arrange to meet you. The bunkie includes a queen-sized mattress for 2 guests! If you are bringing more than 2 guests, you must bring tents as the bunkie only comfortably fits 2 people (there is plenty of space to pitch your tent around the bunkie). The quality-made wood stove heats The Grand Yurtle nicely and guests stay warm and cozy during the cold winter months. You can also cook on the wood stove and wash up at the small kitchenette with wet sink. Guests must bring their own bedding. The site can be accessed by a traditional car, no off-roading or 4-wheel drive vehicle is needed. However, if there is a lot of snow, I may arrange to have you park further away from the listing and I will drop you off right at the listing. We are a family-friendly (including pets!) campsite. We had a great stay at Dave’s place and really got to take advantage of and enjoy the beautiful nature around us. It was quiet when we went and our kids and dog had an amazing time running around and exploring. Dave takes incredible care of his land and has a deep appreciation and respect for nature. Dave was a welcoming and friendly host. I wish we’d had more time to stay and chat and learn more from his deep well of knowledge.

We love returning once in a while to Dave's Forest! I love this wild forest where I can freely run, chase squirrels, relax by the fire & play with other dogs! Woof! My human brought me here again as he finds this place the perfect camping spot every time our bikepacking adventures brings us to the Simcoe Loop. And Dave will always welcome you & help as much as he can to make you feel like home. Nights under real-shiny-stars are unforgettable!!

Dave was great host. Always available when we needed anything. The last two days we had the whole place to ourselves. He’s got a beautiful piece of land and the work he’s done is amazing. I would definitely recommend this spot and would come here again.

My partner and I had an amazing time, wish we could have stayed longer. Dave has a beautiful property and the amount of hard work he has put into it shows, and his passion for preserving the land. Super friendly and informative about everything you need to know. Site 6 was perfect for tent camping and we felt immersed in nature without having neighbours jammed so close like typical conservation sites. We really hope to come back!! So many things to checkout, and hanging by the pond to wind down is a must. Thanks again dave!!

Grand Yurtle
We had a great time staying here! The Grand Yurtle is a little bit outside the forest, so it is very private, and there's fewer mosquitoes. The forest trails are well maintained and full of all kinds of wildlife, including many species of birds we had never seen before. Dave obviously takes a lot of pride in his property and is a great host.

Yurtle by the Pond
My girlfriend and I stayed at Dave's pond yurtle and had the best time. It's an absolutely beautiful property with lots to explore and discover. Dave is a fantastic host. He provides you with all the knowledge you need of his property and the surrounding area. It's unique in that it is on protected land intended to protect local species, and the amount of wildlife you see is fantastic. Dave also has an awesome museum and the small fee to have a tour is while worth it for any person interested in military history. We will be going back and would highly recommend this location!

I went there for my bf’s bday and it was my best camping experience so far. Place is super cozy, fire’s warm, squirrels and birds are right outside your window, and Dave is super friendly. It was really impressive of what he have made in the forest. And his dog was so cute haha. Pond in front of the cabin is beautiful and the sunset muahhhh He let us stay after 12pm cause there were no reservations after us and if you’re lucky, you might too!!

Grand Yurtle
We loved our getaway to the Yurdle! Dave was friendly and responsive! The trails were lovely and we loved Dave's special attention to filling the bird feeders so we could watch from the large windows! We'll be back!

I absolutely loved my stay at Dave’s grand yurtle! He was such a welcoming and helpful host, and his dog is so cute she definitely gave my pups a good run. The cabin was so cute it had twinkly lights hug up and the most peaceful views of the birds using the bird feeders from the large windows! Plus such a beautiful property to explore, my dogs absolutely loved that part! Definitely a stay you should add to your list. I would recommend 4x4/some clearance to get in, my 2wd Toyota Matrix did it but I’m very confident and the trail was plowed very well.

Yurtle by the Pond
We loved staying at Dave’s yurtle. Dave was a great host who was communicative, generous, and patient. It was the perfect stay for a weekend and very secluded. We enjoyed walking around the property, where Dave had made trails. It was lovely to listen to the birds and they came up to the cabin quite often, which was nice to see. A couple things to note: - I would suggest bringing your own bedding and pillows. - It is a twin bed, which was tight for us 2 humans and 2 German Shepherds, but we made it work. I think the cabin would be better suited for only 1 large dog or 2 small dogs. - There’s enough room on the floor for a dog bed, which is nice. - You can also drive onto the site which was very convenient. - I would suggest 3 bags of wood for 1 night because it does get quite cold in the winter. - Also bring your own toilet paper for the outhouse. It was a great experience and my partner loved it so much that he kept bragging about it at work the next day!!! My partner has been wanting to do winter camping for a long time now and this was a great and comfortable introduction for both of us.

Yurtle by the Pond
Had a great time at Dave's Yurtle by the Pond! Dave was very welcoming and thorough. When we arrived he took the time to chat and review the map with us, made sure we had enough wood etc. The Yurtle was really comfortable, the trail was great (saw some migrating birds) and other guests were respectful of noise levels. We didn't get a chance to squeeze in the farm tour, hopefully next time when we have more time. Thanks Dave!

Great location, easy to find, close to Midland and Coldwater or Orillia. Dave’s place is a tranquil, serene property with plenty of space between sites to maximize privacy and take in all of the natural beauty. Dave was truly a fantastic host. Friendly, welcoming and very helpful along with his furry companion the fabulous Noelle! This property is a great get away offering trails to walk and explore as well as a dock overlooking the pond and seating areas to sit back and enjoy the muskrats, birds, bees and the natural habitat. Dave is passionate about preserving the environment and was kind enough to share some history and answer questions about his property. I was at Site #3 which was nice and flat, sand/grass. The site was had a great log beam off the ground that was very handy and also offered a good sized rock fire pit. This site was very spacious offering a nice canopy with an open space for star gazing. Will definitely go back for another camping experience!

Dave was a fantastic host. Very welcoming, super informative, and generous. The campsite itself was phenomenal. Very private and secluded and the forest is beautiful. We did the farm and museum tour and it was really really cool. Dave's collection is amazing, we were very thankful to be able to see it and hear some of the harrowing stories. We will definitely be returning whenever we get the chance.

Dave might be the most welcoming and kind host you would meet on Hipcamp! He welcomed us at the site with a really nice sheet introducing the area and trails nearby. Over the past three decades taking care of the forest, he also planted more than three thousand trees. We also booked the farm and museum tour with him. He shared many touching stories about his families in war and recommended us some good books about indigenous history on the land we occupied. We would absolutely come back again and maybe also help to do more good to the environment. BTW, organic eggs and garlic we purchased from Dave were very delicious and fresh.

Wonderful wooded spot that is easily accessible by car. Private and quaint, yet 15 mins from town. Dave is a kind and comedic character with a heart of gold. His aim is to make your stay perfect and he’s on top of that. I would highly recommend any of the camp sites on the land.

This is a remarkable spot. Dave is a wonderful host, his commitment and the stewardship, Dave has for his land combine with his generosity in sharing, deserves a lot of praise. There are several walking trails which requires another certain stay to explore the remaining ones. They lead by the pond area, the sitting area, then through a diverse forest looping back. A Great spot and would return .

Went here for my first time with my boyfriend, and we absolutely loved it! Dave was awesome and his campsite is dead gorgeous! We camped out of the back of our car with a tarp overtop and watched the stars from below! What a fantastic campsite, we loved every moment of it! Fyi: We forgot to bring mosquito repellent so we did get a bit eaten up but just make sure to bring some deet or bug spray and you should have no worries! -Corey

Lots of land to walk around on. Quiet and peaceful atmosphere. Only 6 mins away from beautiful swim spot Orr Lake! Dave is very knowledgeable about the land and area and is passionate about the campsite which is well maintained and full of hidden gems

We absolutely loved tent camping at Dave's property! It was 100% the best spot we've visited through Hipcamp so far, with over 90 acres of managed forest area. We were at site #2 and it was huge and quite private feeling. The trails around the property were such a treat too! We were worried that with the pond it would be really buggy but were delighted to find hardly any mosquitoes. We saw plenty of turtles and birds, and lots and lots of frogs during our four day stay. Dave was friendly and always down for a chat, but also gave us lots of space to enjoy his property and all it has to offer. We'll be back!
