Please note: There are many wild hens and roosters roaming freely around the neighborhood and property. This is a perfect stay for guests who are comfortable co-existing with nature and the natural sounds that come with it. Please plan accordingly.

We are a 5th generation family farm on the slopes of Haleakala, just a 3 mile drive up from historic Makawao town. Our great grandfather purchased a 40 acre ranch in 1957 as his retirement, homestead dream. With rolling hills of pastures, our farm is the ideal location for a secluded camping getaway with ocean views and Maui. Sadly, our property was hit severely by the August 2023 fires caused by downed electric lines. Your support of camping on our family farm helps us recover little by little and help us maintain such a huge responsibility of weeding invasive trees and weeds, along with repairs and fence building after so much loss.

The property is located on Maui island in the Kula district on the drier side of Haleakala. In days before western contact the area was heavily forested with native plants and trees and rainfall was abundant. The native Hawaiian grew bananas, taro and sweet potato. After Western contact businessmen mostly from the United States developed huge tracts of land for ranching and farming which cleared the native forests and destroyed the eco system from the mountain to the sea. Many of the Hawaiian people moved away nearer to the towns and immigrant Chinese laborers from the ranches and plantations moved in. The Chinese brought in the Wattle tree to plant for firewood as these trees grew very fast. These are the majority of the trees that you see today. As part of the Chinese immigration, the founder of modern China, Sun Yat Sen lived here for a time and planned his revolution to overthrow the last Chinese Dynasty. There is a park dedicated to him nearby.We have picnic tables a propane grill, a fire pit and a covered gazebo that is shared with 3 cabins This site is located at the 2800 ft altitude and the temperature at night can range from mid 50 to mid 60 degrees F. If you are planning to go to Haleakala, we are about 45 -60 minutes to the summit. We are also on the south side approach to Hana. There is a great restaurant for breakfast and lunch about 10 minutes away in Keokea town called Grandma's Coffee house.

I loved their farm! Absolutely beautiful. Shower was awesome after a day of being in the plane and walking around downtown.. With the cool stormy breeze blowing in. Was amazing actually! Loved the whole communal setup. Will be back again someday!

Just as described. I arrived late due to flight change and it was easy to get to/find even at night. No problems parking and settling in. I never used an outdoor shower and it was kinda cool. Freeing almost ;) lol two toilets r 25 steps away. The public area for kitchen, fridge, etc is cool. Would use again. Their community is interesting, cool and friendly. This is for people open to non hotel options and willing to be stretched a lil. There r roosters at 530am or so but it didn’t bother me. I’m up around that time anyhow. Thx yall. I had a blast

Always a great experience, a friend was in town so we went and parked our camper here. It has wonderful amenities and just over all a fun and inviting atmosphere. Our friend stayed in one of the yurts and really enjoyed her stay too. I got a little tour and I would definitely continue to recommend this spot.

Such a cute site! It’s close enough to most everything to make a nice home base for a few nights. The facilities are so well maintained and with all the plants, there are butterflies everywhere! Stargazing is perfect… 100% would camp here again.

This is the place to camp in your camper van or vehicle. It has great out door showers with warm water(not cold).
Flushing toilets are such an amenity while camping. Its also a farm so there's fruit trees all around. Also: there is a ferral cat colony down the rd so there are dozens of cats that come out at night. Thanks Marco for hosting such a safe and comfortable property!

The amenities and land were beautiful. Would definitely stay here again. The instructions and landmarks were clear and helpful. When we had trouble with our rental vehicle the family on site were helpful and kind when we came to their door.

I had such a great time at Sun Farm, Hawaii, Koko head! I stayed at site three for four nights in a camper van. Now that I look back, I really appreciate the pavement because everywhere else was wet and muddy. Site three is right next to the covered picnic area, the kitchen, and basically all the amenities. I use the kitchen to heat up some water on the stove, and there also a fridge to store food if needed. The bathroom was clean and smelled great. The sinks are on the outside of the bathroom, and the showers are located off the sidewalk near a lovely garden, and I really enjoyed the shower! After hiking all day, it was nice to take a hot shower. Overall, it was super nice setting with decent amenities, a really nice garden and glamping tents for rent also. It was very enjoyable, and it also is near all the action.

This place got the job done. We are on a five-day, four-night van camping trip. For our second night around the island, we booked here.
The directions to get there are very easy; follow the GPS and the directions in the message sent earlier by the host. If you arrive before it's too dark, that is best.
We were in spot five and liked the spot. The bathroom was clean, the spot for the van was nice, and the motion-activated light was great for any late-night or early-morning trips to the bathroom.
The shower was so nice, the instructions were straightforward, and a hot shower for the first time in two days felt so good. We saw the sunset below the ocean, and it was spectacular!
Overall, if you want a shower, clean bathrooms, and a smaller crowd, this is the place. The bbq grill is much better than the state camps.

My brother and I just spent 5 nights at Koko Head and can’t express enough as to how pleasant an experience it was. Great spot!The people working the farm were so helpful and pleasant. Having an open kitchen for preparing food was a huge plus. Hot shower was to die for. So pretty there and accessible location to so much. I’ll come back for sure.

Sun Farms exceeded my expectations when it came to visiting the area while car camping. The amenities on sight, the privacy of the bathrooms & showers, and the quietness of its location- couldn’t have been much better of a place to call “home base” for 5 nights. The evenings were peaceful and all the decorative lightening made it feel like a charming fairytale. The staff were all extremely friendly and did an excellent job of maintaining the public use areas clean & tidy.
Will definitely be staying again! ☀️
