Two Dog Hut is an iconic place at HVNC. Like the Yurt, it sits on top of a high ridge with western views. At Two Dog, however, you’re surrounded by tall pines as they sway in the breeze; you’re tucked far away from the main trails and deep in the woods. Two large covered porches on the east and west end offer serene places to enjoy the scenery, and a clear roof provides plenty of light inside the building.

Two Dog Hut is an uninsulated building with a clear plastic roof, although it has a wood stove it can still get quite cold in the winter months. Intrepid winter guests should be prepared with the right gear (e.g. winter sleeping bag, extra layers etc.) and should expect winter camping conditions.

Two Dog Hut feels like accessible wilderness even though it is only about 1.25 miles from the parking area. It was built in 2008 as part of HVNC’s original “Stump to Hut” event. The building is made out of pieces of pine pulp from trees harvested right there on site. Volunteers and professionals developed this clever and unique design. About $20 worth of pulp was slabbed on two sides by a portable saw mill, and built up in a pseudo-log cabin style.

Two Dog Hut is located at Midcoast Conservancy's 1,000 acre, award winning Hidden Valley Nature Center, and a portion of the booking fees goes to support our mission to protect and restore vital lands and waters on a scale that matters.

The hut was great. Off the beaten path but still very accessible. Well set up with the essentials. Best of all, peaceful. And the staff was very helpful resolving a confusion before I arrived.

Two Dog hut is the perfect place in the woods to relax and enjoy nature and midcoast Maine. We had a blast both spending time at the Hut and walking out to take day trip adventures to Bath and Popham Beach. We’ll be back!

Another in a long line of great 2 Dog visits. Though clearly the most rustic (and the oldest) hut at HNVC, we think it is the best: real logs, real small, see-through roof which best allow the viewing of storms in the treetops and the stars at night, a great view of the valley while sitting on the John with the door open, a big picture window behind the wood stove so you can watch the woods and the firebox at the the same time—what’s not to like?

Perfect little rustic cabin in the woods. Took two dogs to Two dog Hut and had good times! Cozy fireplace, lots of seclusion and trees, and not much else. Exactly what we were looking for.

Two Dog Hut is an excellent place to get away and relax.
Situated on a high spot with excellent views of sunrise and sunset - just .81 miles from water and an easy 1.25 mile hike in.
Hiked in a ceramic skillet and cooked everything on the woodstove.
The loft is a bit makeshift but works.
Awesome little cabin - Needs a few repairs (window - stove handle - completed loft) but will definitely stay again - recommending to all my friends!

SunsetSunrise!Evening vibes in the cabin Really cool clear plastic roof!
Sunrise, sunset, moons, stars, rain, and snow - you can see and feel it all

We had a wonderful experience camping at Hidden Valley Nature Center on Midcoast's land.

Two Dog Hut was great - super easy to get to, cozy, and fun.

Our family of four (and our dog) enjoyed an evening camp out together and stayed warm by the fire throughout the winter evening.

Hope to go back again someday soon!
