Hike-in to some sites at this Hipcamp.
Park your RV or pitch your tent at South Pass City Camp and you're just a hop, skip and a jump away from South Pass City State Historic Site. For a true "miner's experience" you'll want to pitch your tent at one of my Miner's Camp sites just outside of town. If your stay is on a weekend you'll want to book a (free) tour of the Carissa Mill or English Tunnel. There are miles of walking trails nearby, or it could be a basecamp to explore the greater South Pass area.

Miner's Camp Tent Site #1

Miner's Camp #1 is a tent site located just east of the historic Carissa mine near South Pass. Parking is located at the top of the hill but the Camp site is nestled in the trees 100 (vertical) feet below. Hermit Creek runs nearby and you will be very close to the State Historic Site trail system. There is a picnic table, fire pit and toilet to help make your stay enjoyable. The trail to the campsite is fairly steep so make sure you have good footwear. There are historic mine workings on the property so be careful, but have fun exploring!

Miner's Camp #2 is a tent site located just east of the historic Carissa mine near South Pass. Parking is located at the top of the hill but the Camp site is nestled in the trees 60 (vertical) feet below. Little Hermit Creek runs seasonally nearby and you will be very close to the State Historic Site trail system. There is a picnic table, fire pit and toilet to help make your stay enjoyable. The trail to the campsite is fairly steep so make sure you have good footwear. There are historic mine workings on the property so be careful, but have fun exploring!

Campsite At South Pass City
Great spot. We found out about South Pass City only because we booked this site. It was close to some houses, so provided feeling of safety, but was nice and quiet. Walk the historic site and trails right from the camp site.
