The site was beautiful and Jonathan was so nice and knowledgeable. He clearly takes a lot of pride in all he’s built. Loved the location and scenery. I’ll definitely come back.

Jonathan was amazing, he was so helpful and full of so much knowledge! His property is perfect for camping under the stars! We even got to meet his mom on mothers days and she was just the sweetest person! We felt completely safe and loved having access to the indoor bathroom! It was our first time using HipCamp and we were pleasantly surprised! Definitely recommend!

We loved camping at the river site, the river and the campsite were beautiful! There is a bridge nearby but we weren’t bothered too much by road noise. And Jonathan was super cool, really enjoyed our stay.

I had an amazing experience at this Hipcamp, thanks to the incredible host. He was welcoming, knowledgeable, and always ready to help while still respecting my space. His passion for the land and hospitality truly made the stay special. A highlight of the trip was the availability of fresh, foraged foods to cook with—a unique and thoughtful touch that made our experience even more memorable. The site was well-maintained, peaceful, and had everything I needed for a comfortable and enjoyable visit. I highly recommend this spot and would absolutely stay again!

This site was great! My friends and I loved talking to Jonathan and his stories are super fun to hear. He is a great host and the river campsite easily fit two tents and our cars. The firepit and picnic table were super helpful too, and the area just felt safe and comfortable. Would love to book again for future trips!

Jonathan was welcoming and had lots of advice on things to do in the area. I appreciated his input. The site was as described. It is not overtly private as it is immediately across from a camper lot, and river access for other campers does go through the campsite, but we really didn’t have any issues. We went in October, so foliage no longer provided much privacy. The road traffic through Hinton does also go right by the campsite, so you will hear that at all times. I would recommend this site for families. People looking for private sites should look elsewhere. Overall, it was a good experience.

My family had an amazing and relaxing stay at the creekside site. Jonathan is a generous and incredibly informative host and made us feel well cared for. There were four kids and two dogs in our group and they had a blast exploring the creek for hours. It was a beautiful spot. The only downside, it’s very close to the road and the road noise was loud and constant through the night, when we just wanted to enjoy the sounds of nature. Everything else about our stay was fantastic and we were sad to be leaving after a great weekend getaway.

The homestead and river tour are definitely worth checking out. Jonathan’s unique knowledge of the land is part of the draw of this place—I tasted fruits I did not know existed. Jonathan himself is a generous and enthusiastic host who is extremely dog friendly. Loved the heirloom tomato sandwiches and pancakes! While I mostly stayed on site, this spot is close to Hinton and Sandstone falls, therefore it seemed to be in a great location. The common area was very clean, and the campground was beautifully maintained.

We ended up switching to the River site just because it was available and it had a little more room for a family of 6. It also made it quicker access to the river. Jonathan was an amazing host and guide. I highly recommend the river guided trip. First time for our family of 6 (4 kids 11 and under) kayaking together and they had a blast! Jonathan answered any questions we had and was very knowledgeable of the area and homesteading. It was also very convenient being close to a dollar general for the unexpected needs that came up. Downtown Hinton is also worth exploring especially for lunch for dinner.

We had a wonderful, spur of the moment get away with the family all because of Jonathan! The camp site was private and right on the river. It included a fire ring, a trash can, recycling, a community bathroom, and even some fridge space. Do yourself a favor and take the float trip! It was a great, cheap experience that he catered to our ages and the river conditions- it was very low but Jonathan still put together a perfect excursion and even made sure we had pictures for memories. Jonathan’s homestead is well thought out and right up our alley. He kindly sent home some seeds for plants I had never come across before. It really was a one of a kind trip that we will never forget.

Jonathan the host was very friendly, site is very nice next to the river. Information on the web site is accurate. Only negative is that camp is next to the bridge and you can heard every car that crossed the bridge at night.

Our stay at the river site was amazing. Its very spacious and calm once the sun goes down. I stongly suggest you take the guided river float with Jonathan. Secure your gear, pack dry bags and boxes all your stuff will be good doing so. If you’re looking for a similar experience to rafting for a great fraction of the price, take the add on for the tour! Jonathan knows all the best spots in the area, and is overly joyed to share the greatness the area has to offer. We WILL be back again many more times!

This is an absolutely beautiful camping spot for those looking to have some time relaxing right on the water. You can see all the hard work Jonathan has put into the place and he is such a friendly, accommodating host. He is so kind and knowledgeable, and went above and beyond in his hospitality. The cabin is a cozy little “communal spot” and we were offered access to the full kitchen if we needed it, which would be handy for those who don’t want to cook on a bon fire. It is great to have a spot to camp with access to a private toilet and shower, and Jonathan was kind enough to invite us up to the covered porch of the cabin when it rained. This also extremely dog friendly camping, and Jonathan was very patient with our young, energetic pups. The ONLY down side to this place is the noise from the road right along the spot, but that wasn’t too hard to ignore after we adjusted, especially with some music playing, and it’s obviously out of his control. We will DEFINITELY be coming back to camp here again!

Really loved camping here! Our spot was nice and cozy right by the creek and Jonathan was a spectacular host! Location wise it’s a perfect home base for those excursions into the National Park nearby and was an amazing spot to have a nice relaxing kayak ride.

Perfect spot right on the river, easy access for kayaking. Only 2 spots on the entire property so you don’t have to worry about over crowding. Easy access to new river gorge park and not far from sandstone falls. This is closer to the Grandview side of the park, if you’re looking to just do the bridge it’s a longer drive but if you want to really get out and enjoy the wild of the park it’s the perfect spot. 10/10 would definitely recommend

Jonathan’s spot was amazing! Secluded, right by the river, and peaceful. He was also an outstanding host. Invited us to the communal caning outdoor bar and listened to the WVU game with us. He let us use his canoe and floats and gave us a tour of his homestead where he completely lives off the land. Very chill and knowledgeable

I had the best time in West Virginia. Our host Johnathon & his friend Jim were great company, with great vibes & conversation. Now when I listen to "take me home, country roads" it hits different. I loved the homestead lifestyle, goals. I would absolutely recommend this place ☺️

We LOVED camping at the river site. Jonathan was the absolute best host and very knowledgeable about local hikes, flora, and fauna. Welcomed us onto his sustainable farm and homestead nearby and provided us with a tour (and some plants to take home). We were even treated to homemade pancakes on our last day.
Would 100% recommend and have already made suggestions to a few of my friends to stay at this site when exploring nearby.
Perfect place for those looking to getaway for a quiet weekend or party by a river with some friends.

We loved camping by the creek! It was great for the kids (3,6,&12) they could go play while us adults sat at the campsite and could listen. There was room for our big 12 person tent and (2) two-person tents. Along with the picnic table he had there, our folding table, large canopy AND 2 SUVs…
If your there to relax and let the kiddos explore this site will not disappoint!
Jonathan was very helpful showing us around the campground and offered to help anyway he could. There were kayaks and water toys that we took advantage of and had such a fun time.
I can’t say enough… HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Such a private spot by the creek! The natural spring water was amazing for my joints!
Just a short walk to the river, which was beautiful! Great for swimming and fishing!
Sandstone falls was beautiful and just a short drive… caught some nice bass there!
It’s nice to have a bathroom right there and a shower.
Johnathon was super nice and shared his firewood and fresh tomatoes with us!
He also gave us a fun tour of his homestead he is working on💕
This was way better than a crowded campground!
Driveway is steep but you get used to it.
Super fun time with our family!

My family and I camped at Jonathan’s creek site and had a blast. The property is beautiful and tucked away just enough where you feel secluded but still have the conveniences of Hinton. The site was nicely kept and having access to the communal cabin’s bathroom and shower came in handy for our 7 year old. The creek felt amazing on hot days and the river was the perfect temperature. Jonathan was a gracious, friendly, and knowledgeable host. Touring his homestead is definitely worth it and the ride over in the canoe is just as fun. Playing fetch with Remy, his dog, was our daughters favorite part of our whole trip. Jonathan gave us a few of his homegrown tomatoes, some spice from his spice bush, played us a record on his vintage victrola, and told us about all the best day hikes and sites to see in the area. The creek site fit our 2 fairly large tents perfectly. You will definitely learn something new and leave inspired if you camp with Jonathan. We will definitely be back!
