100 Acre Wood

Was wonderful to meet David and his family. I was greeted with such kindness and hospitality. Looking forward to Staying at David’s place again soon. Next time I look forward to exploring the property with David. Camping at 100 acre wood was the highlight of my trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway. The views are amazing! The moment you set foot on the property, you know you are someplace special. Thank you so much!

I love the solitude at 100 Acre Wood. You are alone on many acres and we can bring our big old dogs and let them run off lease safely. The site is always clean and the host, David, is always welcoming and makes sure you have what you need.

The place is beautiful, the sites are spacious, no neighbors will bother you. The host, David, is gracious and extremely accommodating and happy to help out with anything you might need. Spectacular!

Private and beautiful

We drove straight from Arkansas to Virginia and showed up a bit late, but we still found the site with ease. As soon as we found the spot, I called David, who asked us if there was anything else we needed while there. Side note: Verizon didn’t work for us out there, but Mint Mobile did. Anyway, this was the first night of camping for our new pup, and we took one of the senior dogs as well. I wanted privacy as I wasn’t sure how they would react, and this site delivered that and more. While in Virginia we stayed at a few different campgrounds (two hipcamp spots and one state park), and David’s place had the best night ambience/soundscape experience. I’m one of those people who sleep with multiple fans, and the nature sounds here were enveloping in such a lovely and harmonious way. And at one point we heard coyotes, which personally, I loved. In the morning, after a walk (and it smelled so good on the walk!), we had the pleasure of meeting with David and spending some time conversing and seeing the land and other camping spots. I already know what spot I want to stay in for the upcoming spring. :) Overall a great experience with a friendly host, and an absolutely wonderful area for someone introducing their dog to camping.

Beautiful Solitude

My lab and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Burlington Meadow. The campsite was clean, easy to reach yet remote, and the views were spectacular! We were provided with a container of fresh water and access to firewood. But one of my favorite things about many Hipcamps I have stayed at, this one being no exception, is the hosts I have met. David could not have been kinder. He met us at the site, gave me a tour of the other campsites and remainder of the property, assured me that I could reach out to him if I needed anything. If you are in need of a campsite anywhere in the area, please give this one a try.

Great views, wonderful host!

I took a group of four teenage boys camping in David’s land. The Up On Top site offers spectacular views and a lot of space to spread out tents and games. The best part of our experience was meeting our host David. He offered all of us a tour of his property in his gator vehicle. He also helped us out with a can opener and extra wood for the campfire. It was an all around perfect camping experience and we will definitely be back!

Spectacular camping spot

This was one of the most beautiful hipcamp sites I've visited. The meadows site is surrounded by woods and also has a beautiful view. It is very spacious. Our Tacoma had no trouble getting up the dirt road. David met us at our site shortly after we arrived and gave us a wonderful tour of the property. Each site is unique and private, and so well cared for and thought out. Don't hesitate to book any of these sites. David is a great host.

The Up on Top campsite was fantastic (5 out of 5 stars) - the pictures don’t do it justice. The site is secluded and the views are amazing. Dave’s hospitality was above and beyond. He gave us a tour of the property (which was awesome), provided drinking water, and offered firewood at very reasonable price. Will definitely return. If you’re thinking of booking here, do it. You will not be disappointed! Thanks Dave for a great weekend.

We enjoyed our one night stay here. Very private and had a beautiful view. David was a great host and took us for a tour of his property when we arrived. Check out the draper mercantile while in draper they have good food and shops. Will definitely be back.

A very special Hipcamp spot!

We had a wonderful stay at 100 Acre Wood. David is an incredibly kind and welcoming host, and his love for the land is evident. He took us on a property tour, which was so fun and informative! We left knowing more about the trees and the landscape than when we arrived, which made the whole experience feel special. The campsite itself was peaceful and well set up with detailed touches such as beautiful rocks to sit on around the fire pit and picnic tables! We appreciated the quiet, the stars, the beautiful view, and the sense of care that’s clearly gone into stewarding the property. We were told there were other campers on the property, but you could have fooled us because we never heard anything... well, other than more than 17 species of birds (according to the Merlin Bird ID app), including an Eastern Screech Owl :) Thank you, David, for sharing your land (and your knowledge) with us. We’d happily come back and will be recommending this spot to friends!

Double Birthday Bigfoot Siting !!!

My family and I stayed at the campsite up on top for 7 days! We celebrated both mine and my son's birthdays. We chose this place as our destination because of the beautiful pictures and all of the good reviews. When we got there it was even more beautiful than the pictures were! What a place! The directions were so clear, the land was beautiful but most of all what made the experience so memorable was how accommodating and pleasant David and his wife Kathy were. He took me on a tour of the land on the first day. He tended to any needs that we had, including helping me unload all of my camping supplies on the first day, bringing us big canisters of water and loading us down with so much wood for the bonfire. We bought the Bigfoot siting extra that he offers. It was worth every penny! Although my kids are grown and do not believe in Bigfoot, we do like to prank each other. We had such a great laugh and took pictures with Bigfoot afterwards! If you're into that kind of thing, I seriously suggest doing it! We brought our kayaks and kayaked on the New River as well as Clator Lake which is all within 15 minutes from the campground. I woke up early every morning to catch the sunrise over the hills in the mountains. Once I did it the first time I had to do it everyday after because of how amazing it was to witness it from where we were. This has now become our favorite spot to camp! David was so kind, we made a new friend and can not wait to go back!

Our group loved the Easter Egg Meadow! Great shade, awesome fire pit, and very private. We were able to let our dogs be free, and the wooded area provided enough of a barrier for them to know where to stay. Nice bonus, the flowers around the perimeter of the campsite attracted lots of butterflies! David is super responsive and a great host! We will certainly be coming back!

I loved tent camping on David’s land, it was only for one quick night but it was secluded and exactly what we needed. We arrived late and after dark and David still came and made sure we found the site alright and were able to get settled. We will definitely be coming back to be able to really enjoy the land and the area surrounding.

What a fantastic place to spend a night or three... The description led us to choose Up on Top and it was absolutely lovely; an open, breezy, well-kept clearing at the top of a hill with beautiful views of the distant hilltops (not quite mountains but every bit as pastoral). Within 30 minutes of arriving, David zipped up on his 4-wheel ATV and offered us a really fun tour of the trails on the 100 Acre Woods, which he maintains lovingly. and, maybe, obsessively. We had a nice time chatting about all sorts of things, then enjoyed a very restful evening with our dog around the firepit. Cool Highland air allowed us to sleep without A/C for the first time in days, lulled to sleep by the sounds of nature. Just one bit of worthwhile information that might benefit some travelers. Up on Top was REALLY up on top, requiring a drive up a dirt road that gets quite steep for the last 200 feet. Our FWD ProMaster struggled and got stuck on our first attempt and we had to back down to the lesser grade and really gun it up the hill. Made it with no trouble the second time, which was well worth it. David later told us there's a secondary route, so if you get cold-feet, ask him for that info...

David was so kind and helpful. We arrived in the evening and he lead us up (way up!) to our campsite. The site was huge and beautiful. Very very private with amazing views. There were 2 large picnic tables, a nice fire pit with stone seating around it, firewood, and water for washing hands or rinsing. David offered a tour of his lovely property the next day, but unfortunately we were on a tight schedule. I wish we would have had more time here!

100 Acre Wood is a beautiful site with an absolutely lovely host. David was kind enough to meet us at the house to show us the way to the campsite and even took us on a tour of the property, including the woodworking shop! The views of the mountains and the sunset from our tent was something that will bring me back over and over again. The property is well maintained, and there was plenty of firewood both provided and easy to find around the site itself. David sold me on the views of the Up Top campsite during the fall; I'm excited to come back around that time and see for myself!

My husband and I had an amazing time staying on Dave’s property. The property is absolutely stunning and Dave is nice enough to give you a tour if you’d like. We booked the up on top site but quickly learned it was going to be too hot without any tree coverage, and Dave was more than willing to allow us to move to the Bruington meadow which provided ample shade and it was much more comfortable! If you have the time take a drive to cascade falls (Dave’s suggestion) for one of the most breathtaking waterfalls and swimming holes. All in all it was an unforgettable holiday weekend and will absolutely be returning day.

This was our first HipCamp and we made a great choice. The property was beautiful. The campsites were spacious, clean and neat. They were very private, quite and had a great fire pit. David was great. When we arrived he greeted us and showed us to our site. He made sure we were all set and later he gave us a little tour of the property. What a great spot. We will definitely camp here again if we are in the area.

Great Place to Camp

David has put a lot of time and effort into making 100 Acre Wood a fantastic place to camp and enjoy the beauty of the great outdoors. My buddy and I stayed at Bruington Meadow and loved it. David gave us a tour of the large property which has a number of well maintained wide grassy trails accessing the 3 spacious camping areas. The campsites are uniquely placed and private, acres from each other. Large picnic tables that David made himself and fire rings are at each site, and the 5 gal. potable water David provided the first day was a nice extra. If you are looking for a quiet, gorgeous place to camp, with nice views, where campsites are not sardined, (and who isn’t), you can’t go wrong at 100 Acre Wood! It’s also a good central location to explore the New River Trail State Park.
