Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.
My home is the original Diers Homestead, established in 1940. It was named The Chicken Ranch in the 1960’s. There aren’t any chickens, but there are many forest creatures that wander out of the Green Mountain National Forest & into the meadow. You may see foxes, deer, moose, large marmots, and lots of different birds including wild turkeys & great blue herons. Apple trees of many varieties are scattered around. Come eat freely when they fruit! You’ll be camping on a hill with a fire ring nearby. The beautiful sunrises and sunsets are both visible as the meadow is open to the south, east & west. This is a special place in a perfect location. If you like to explore by foot, there’s a network of private hiking trails and a river to cool off in, both within 1/4 mile from your campsite. Also easily within walking distance is the village of Rawsonville: Ungrounded Coffee, Meulemans' Craft Draughts, Honeypie, Family Kitchen and Pizzeria, OMG garden center & gift shop (home to the occasional Greenhouse Sessons event!), Mountain Riders, Equipe Sport & the Rawsonville Marketplace where you can get basic supplies and fuel. Speaking of fuel, if you really want to roll your wheels… Stratton Village is 8 minutes by car. Take a gondola ride to the top and check out the fire tower where you can see the entire lower half of Vermont state on a clear day. The village centers of Jamaica, Londonderry and Peru are also very close by and boast great food and crafts. And there’s always Manchester, if you’re seeking lots of shopping and fine dining. Horseback riding is a 15 minute drive from the campsite at Horses For Hire in Peru. This is a truly authentic experience. Trail rides for all abilities- even the “pony ride” for the little kids is a trail through the woods. Not to be missed! Also in Peru is Bromley Mountain which, during the summer months, becomes The Thrill Zone featuring a giant alpine slide. At Bee Well Homestead in Jamaica, there is authentic BBQ, live music and yoga every Sunday morning. The New American Grill in Londonderry has a wide selection of delicious food and their open mic night on Thursdays feature very talented local musicians. Even though it’s so close to all these uniquely wonderful people and their businesses, it is really just off a little country road - the best of both worlds! My home is the original Diers Homestead, established in 1940. Peaceful and relaxing
Atom was very kind and showed me right to my site as well as gave me a few ideas to eat, which I ate at Fran’s and it was delicious:) also something very unique for me at least from being in indiana , when I woke up in the morning and got out of my tent about 30 feet or so was a moose 🫎! It was a massive animal compared to the deer back at home, I would stay again if i come back through this town

Literally felt at home
At first, you think you’re in his yard close to the house, but man, it’s such a beautiful little spot. Quiet and cozy. Atom is super friendly and welcoming. He was very open in how I parked, so that we were comfortable and level, my dog could run off leash (she is used to being off leash) and I had her tied up as it got dark. Huge fire pit, (legit stood in it to build my fire) and played music while I sat by fire and ate my soup. Very responsive to messaging through Hipcamp, even in the evening when he was easing my mind about frequently visited critters/animals at night. Recommend. So happy I met him and his cute new little rescue pups.

We very much enjoyed staying at Atom’s. The fire pit was very well made and big enough to burn up some long branches. Atom also supplied campfire wood for us to use. The camping spot was easy to access and level up our camper. And Atom was very kind and gave us some pointers on where to go hiking.

Atom has a beautiful property. We parked our camper van in his field with a stunning view and nice fire pit. Grateful for the stay!
