This land is the home to Brad and Sarah, cats, gardens and a variety of wildlife. It is here that we run Roots School, a wilderness earth skills school, instructing adults and youth alike. The land has over a half a mile of river frontage and several streams, a beautiful varied forest, rambling topography, and plenty of wildlife. Many lessons in tracking may be found as whitetails, moose, black bear, fishers, bobcats, porcupine, coyotes, foxes, mink, ermine, snowshoe hare, wild turkey, and ruffled grouse, are seen and tracked. Often times we are also lucky enough to catch a hawk circling the pasture and to hear the barred owls calls in the darkness of night. The diversity of plants, trees, and animals make this an ideal place to study and grow, or simply hang out in and experience.

Talk a walk in the woods along the southern branch of the Waits River and find yourself at a rustic and beautiful yurt.  This stands alone in a small clearing with surrounded by the Vermont forest.  This has a low key vibe where you can listen to bird song, sit by a fire, or take a walk along our many trails.     The land has over a half a mile of river frontage and several streams, a beautiful varied forest, rambling topography, and plenty of wildlife. Many lessons in tracking may be found as whitetails, moose, black bear, fishers, bobcats, porcupine, coyotes, foxes, mink, ermine, snowshoe hare, wild turkey, and ruffled grouse, are seen and tracked. Often times we are also lucky enough to catch a hawk circling the pasture and to hear the barred owls calls in the darkness of night. The diversity of plants, trees, and animals make this an ideal place to explore the natural world.   The yurt is a 5-10 minute walk into the woods in the summer, and take a little longer with snow on the ground.   It has two full size beds inside, with room for folks to lay a bed roll out on the floor if wanted for.  There is a woodstove to keep things warm in the cold months (do contact me if you plan to use it). There is a large picnic table outside, along with an outdoor firepit to cozy up to. We are an active school, with classes often taught on the weekends.  The yurt is private to you, but expect to potentially see folks walking to class, the outhouses or tenting in the general area if you plan to be here on a spring, summer or fall weekend.

Wonderful stay! The yurt is clean and spacious with comfortable beds. They recently installed a propane stove in the yurt that works very well with two burners. The outdoor kitchen was clean and had everything we needed. Be prepared for a bit of a walk to the yurt and no cell service. WiFi at the school building worked well though. We enjoyed the creek and trails. Lovely stay!

The yurt was spacious and private and the outdoor kitchen was a nice bonus! The property is beautiful and runs along a beautiful river - we really enjoyed our time there! This property also houses "Roots School" which is where people can learn wilderness skills and things like basket weaving, arrow making, etc - pretty cool!

I went camping with 4 of my friends and we loved it. Wifi at the local school was great, beds were comfortable, and the campfires we made were amazing.

We absolutely loved staying in the yurt! Sarah was so kind, showed us how to work the woodstove, and made sure we had everything we needed. It was such a peaceful getaway with a group of friends. The kitchen was well equipped and easy to use (and super cute with the lights at night!). Highly recommend a stay here!

A great spot get away to, yurt was clean and comfortable. We stayed one night, Sarah left wood for the fireplace and solar lights were more than enough to light up the yurt at night. Very peaceful and unique place to stay!

We only stayed for one night, but the yurt was a fantastic spot. We are a family of six, with four young kids, which makes doing anything a little tricky, but they thoroughly enjoyed their stay. We had amazing views of the stars/night sky, made s’mores in the fire pit, and enjoyed a great night’s sleep. The yurt was plenty large enough even for six of us, the directions were easy to follow, and we would absolutely recommend staying here!

Beautiful place, nice structure and with all the convenience I needed (toilet, solar light, etc..) I would have like to have a little more wood to start a fire, but We were here only for one night so it was okay :)

I had a great time camping at Sarah's campsite. The directions she provided to the campsite were very clear, and there was lots of room to pitch my tent and have a campfire. I would definitely come back in the future.

Short walk to the yurt with easy instructions getting in. Was very convenient! Yurt was very clean, with all furniture you might need. Overall very happy with out experience, would definitely book again.

This place is amazing. My friend and I rented the yurt for a night and it’s so beautiful especially with the skylight! Being able to watch the stars at night from inside the yurt is awesome! The host is fantastic, we’ll definitely be coming back.

Staying in the Yurt was perfect. It was exactly as described in the photos and description. We were able to stay warm with the wood stove, and plenty of wood available for a small fee. We loved walking around the land and exploring. The pit toilet was clean and the kitchen had everything you need. I would definitely recommend staying here!

Staying on Sarah's land was wonderful. We lucked out with some great weather giving us ample opportunity to walk the trails. The yurt was well insulated and we did not need to use the woodstove. If we did not have our own stove with us, we would have been grateful for the outdoor kitchen which has a stove, stink with hot water, refrigerator, and an assortment of pots and utensils.

We loved camping in Sarah's yurt it was spacious and clean the wood stove is great Sarah was great making sure we had everything we needed the property is beautiful and does provide outhouses and an outdoor kitchen fortunate for us we did not have to use them because we brought our own stuff but it's great to know the stuff was there in case we needed it We went in October it was so quiet and great to unwind off-grid

A magical woodland wonderland

Sarah’s land was absolutely breathtaking! My partner and I had a fantastic time exploring and hanging by the fire. Sarah was an incredible host and went above and beyond. She even got my partner and I cupcakes for our birthdays! I can’t recommend this place enough. 10/10 would stay here again.

Had a great "February vacation" break in the yurt. It was spacious but the wood stove was able to keep it warm enough despite the 10-degree night, and Sarah left enough wood to maintain warm-enough (I had multiple layers on) temps over my 2-night-2-day stay, with minor supplementation with scavenged wood. The yurt's skylight provided plenty of light during the day (til it got covered with snow) and some lights rigged to a solar panel provided some lighting at night to supplement my lamps. The bed was comfy (and again -- wood stove kept it warm enough that I didn't need to sleep near it, I could use the bed) and Sarah had left some extra blankets. There were a number of pieces of furniture, including some chairs. Outhouse was an easy walk despite the snow. The land was lovely, particularly the part-frozen/fast-running river, and hiking the logging roads around the property left plenty of room to roam without fear of getting lost. The structures from Roots School students were fun to find.

Highly recommended! A really lovely place to stay. The woodstove kept the very spacious yurt warm despite the late fall snowstorm. The sound of the river on the edge of the property was soothing at night. Nice woods to walk around in too. Sarah was friendly and helpful when we got there. You'll see various structures that are part of the Roots School of traditional skills that they run there.

We had a lovely time! The yurt is so magical and cozy. We stayed during one of the first frosts of the year but the wood stove kept us toasty all night. The property is beautiful. Highly recommend for a forest getaway!
