As an overlander myself and a native Texan, I understand how difficult it can be to find a good, inexpensive campsite in a state that has close to zero public land, especially in Central Texas. That's why I'm offering up some spots on my property specifically for overlanders, vanlifers, motocampers, and car campers. What follows is an honest, non-Instagram description of my place from a fellow traveler. Wheeler Hideout is not meant to be a destination itself. My goal is to offer a nice place to stay for travelers on their journey across Texas and/or a basecamp for exploring the Texas Hill Country. It's a nice wooded 5 acre space surrounded by other small acreage homesteads. This results in what I like to call the illusion of seclusion. My place is at the end of a private "road." Neighboring homes can be seen from certain places on the property. My house and shop can be seen from all 3 campsites. During the day, the occasional sounds of civilization can be heard (cars, lawnmowers, barking dogs, etc), but it's all off in the distance. At night, it gets pretty quiet, and overall, it's very peaceful. That's why I live here! There's also the possibility of wildlife sightings. We've seen the usual critters like raccoon, skunk, armadillo, opossum, deer, and all kinds of birds. We've also had less common sightings that include fox, bobcat, turkey, and porcupine. All that said, it's certainly not wilderness, but it is good country living! Wheeler Hideout is only a few miles from Florence, TX, so you'll have easy access to a small town market, a Dollar General, and a couple gas stations for restocking supplies. There's also an HEB grocery store less than 10 minutes away if you need a wider variety. Florence is one of the many gateways to the Texas Hill Country with easy access to highways 195, 183, and 35, so there are lots of daytrip possibilities. So many things to see and places to go within a 100 mile radius, so it makes a great basecamp to explore the entire Central Texas area!

Spot 1

RV/tent site · Sleeps 4 · Vehicles under 10 ft
All 3 designated sites are setup to accommodate up to 4 people and 2 vehicles. Site cost is $20 per night per vehicle, so if you have a second vehicle, please add it in the extras section during booking. Vehicle types allowed include car, truck, van, SUV, motorcycle, small overland/teardrop trailer. Vehicle types not allowed (sorry we just don't have the room to accommodate) travel trailer, RV, bus. Normally, 2WD is fine, but if there's rain, 4WD maybe required to get through the mud. On the rare occasion that we get heavy and/or extended rain (once or twice a year), it can turn into super mud. If that happens, we can set you up around the driveway or something. Not as private, but you won't have to camp in the swamp. I'm flexible, if you are! Toilet situation: there is one shared outhouse on the property. Its just a camp toilet setup, bucket with seat/lid and WAG bags. You're welcome to use this or your own facilities. Campers are responsible for disposing of all trash and WAG bags.
