Property description Our property is nestled between Hwy 385, the Mickelson Trail, and the National Forest. We are located between Custer State Park and Wind Cave National Park along Hwy 385 and the Mickelson Trail; about 30 minutes from Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Mountain. The nearest towns with restaurants are Pringle, (2 miles S); Hot Springs, (24 miles S), Custer, (9.5 miles N).; Hill City, (24 miles N), and Rapid City, (50 miles N). The blacktop driveway grants easy access for every type of vehicle. A couple of ponds, creeks, and dispersed willow, pine, and aspen trees enhance the diversity and beauty of the landscape. It is peaceful here and we enjoy sharing it with our guests during the spring, summer, and fall seasons. Plenty Star Ranch Retreat has our home, a big pole barn (RV storage), a garage/wood workshop with an attached restroom for all guests, a regular hot water shower cabin, 2 small home-built camping log cabins, 7 RV sites, 9 clearly marked tent and car-camping sites, and several water hydrants fed by our well, providing great quality drinking water. 2 pets maximum per campsite, no pets allowed when booking a cabin. Check-In is 2 pm to 9 pm; Check-Out is 10 am for the cabins and 11 am for all other sites.

Red Cloud Camp Tent Site

Chief Red Cloud of the Ogallala Sioux tribe and his band were known to camp exactly at and around our ranch. We know because we talked to their family members and found multiple arrowheads at this location. The Red Cloud Campsite is a uniquely situated TENT site. Bring your tent(s) and sleep comfortably and secluded from the rest of the campground on this flat grassy site, high above the valley with an incredible view. This site is right at the edge of the National Forest, so watch the deer and other wildlife travel by in the early mornings and enjoy the beauty of an early sunrise. This site has its approved campfire pit, a picnic table, and cozy camping chairs, but no electricity. Off-the-ground grills are allowed, but no other fires close to the ground.  The restroom for all campers is attached to our garage with a toilet and warm water sink about 20 yards from this tent site, A new shower cabin with a warm water shower and sink is now year-round operational, and right next to the restroom. All hydrants and faucets are connected to our well, providing great drinking water (tested regularly). There are dusk-to-dawn lights mounted at every building, and parking space for more than one vehicle available right at the site. Our fast guest WiFi reaches throughout the campground and you can charge your devices on the electric outlets all around our home's porch. If you are bringing pets, (maximum of 2) please keep them on a leash at all times and do not leave them behind unattended. We keep our peaceful place clean, as well as smoke and drug-free and we hope you respect and appreciate this as much as we do.

Our rustic hand-built1-room log camping/sleeping cabin No. 1 is suitable for 2-3 persons with 1 double, and 1 twin bed. Fresh linens, bedding, towels, and extra blankets are always provided. There is a table and bench, electric outlets and lights, a heating source, a microwave, a mini fridge, paper/plastic dishes and cutlery. It does not have a bathroom attached, or regular air conditioning. It has however a portable fan/heater. There are a table and chairs under the covered porch as well. My friend Ben and I were riding / bike camping along the George Mickleson gravel trail from Edgemont SD to Deadwood SD. We chose Plenty Star ranch due to nearest camp/cabins northbound deadwood SD. Off season it was not busy, the Point of Contact Isa was nice. Shower and restroom clean! WiFi! At camp wow!

Red Cloud Camp Tent Site
I am super happy that I booked the Teepee site on top of the hill. We enjoyed the privacy and proximity to the amenities. The stars were spectacular and we enjoyed how close Custer was to our tourist destinations (Mount Rushmore and Deadwood). The bathroom was clean and the shower was hot with great water pressure. The only drawbacks I would point out are road noise and the dry pond, (Clearly outside of their control), but I was glad I didn’t book the tent site near there. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to others.

This was the perfect location for our 3 day Mickelson trail bike ride. Our cabin was clean and cozy, and even though located on the highway, traffic sounds were almost non-existent at night.

Lovely location. Well kept and maintained property. Host was above expectations with her communication. If wanting Wind Caves or Custer State Park close this is definitely the best choice in the area.

Plenty Star - Log Cabin - No 2 of 2
Overall a very nice experience staying in one of the cabins. Very clean and comfortable. It was a quiet night with one other family camping. Unfortunately there is only one toilet and one shower for a campground that can accomodate at least 10 families. As it was I had to wait for the toilet. Additionally, when we first arrived and were getting aquainted with the property, there was not any info about water sources. We rang the bell at the hosts house and were not greeted very nicely. She appeared annoyed by our presenceand inquires. She also had brochures everywhere offering her services as a psychic/ tarot reader/ healer everywhere. And the thing that bothered me the most...cameras everywhere! Right outside the cabin whereI was trying to relax and read, there was a camera right on me. Ugh!

It was a nice location. We were able to find it easily. We were unable to stay since it was raining and we had a roof top tent we could not get wet. We did get our farm fresh eggs and Martin was very responsive and understanding when we had to change our plans.

The owner is inhospitable and rather rude. This is not so much a “Ranch” as it is a 2 acre front yard off of the main highway passing through Custer. Cars were heard all night long, it was not a pleasant stay.

This beautiful spread just north of Pringle is a peaceful and relaxing homebase for adventures in the Black Hills. Our full hookup spot was under shade most of the day. Stars forever in the evening!

Red Cloud Camp Tent Site
Great piece of land, close to the highway so it is easy to get to and easy to find, also if you want to head into Custer, it's an easy drive. Though if you're not a fan of a little traffic noise then I'd choose something else. Saw the owner come and take care of the amenities every day and she was so pleasant to talk too! The kids LOVED running around and playing. The dog loved napping in the grass. Firepit was great and the area for the tent was nice and flat. The Teepee on the site was cute, but it did have a nice little spider family and maybe a little mold problem so definitely just make sure kiddos/dogs are aware to not play inside of tent. Overall a nice place to spend a long weekend!

We had a beautiful camping site. Restroom & bathroom were very clean. There is during the day quit some traffic but your between mt Rushmore; Crazy horse and so much more. We would come back!

We had a great stay at Plenty Star Ranch Retreat. Everything was as we expected. The sleeping cabin, shower facility, and restroom were all neat, tidy, and clean. The overall setting was tranquil with beautiful views of the surrounding valley. This was one of our stops on a multi-day bicycling trip along the Mickelson Trail and it worked perfectly for us.

My wife and I had a great stay at Plenty Star, everyone was quiet and nice cool nights made for great sleep.Clean bathroom and shower room. It’s a bit spendy but it seems that’s how it is in this tourist spot.

Staying at Isa's Plenty Star Ranch was the perfect first time using hip camp. She was out to meet us when we arrived and after a quick run thru we were on our own. The property is beautifully maintained, bath house and bathroom were very clean. We were able to one of the camp fire pits for cooking on our last night. There's a road that goes up the hill which is a great sunset walk to enjoy the wildlife. Thanks Isa!
