We were really excited for our stay, but unfortunately our first experience fell short in several areas. We didn’t receive check-in or check-out instructions, possibly due to an issue with Hipcamp, so we reached out while on our 11-hour drive. At that point, we were told the tent only had a small space heater and would likely be too cold, and we were offered a switch to the A-frame. While we appreciated the flexibility, the A-frame was significantly smaller than the tent we booked, with a smaller bed and no smokeless fire pit. We were told it would be warmer due to insulation, so we agreed.
Once settled, there were comfort issues. The bed sat only a couple inches off the ground, which was difficult with two dogs, and the rubber mattress didn’t breathe well and was uncomfortable. Outdoor string lights stayed on all night and shone through the front door curtain, making it hard to sleep. There was a French press in the unit but no coffee provided, and although we thought there was a coffee machine in the lodge, we found coffee was $2.50 per cup, which felt disappointing and a bit nickel-and-dimed. One of the main reasons we booked was the sauna, but it was out of order during our stay. I asked about it and was told they were trying to fix it, but there was no follow-up.
Pros: great location, nice bathrooms with hot water, a cool lodge hangout area, interesting art, very clean, and quiet.
