River Hills Hideaway

I stayed here with a group of friends, and we had a great time. We had three tents (two 2 person, one 6 person), and our site had enough space for all. The property was unique and Eric was very friendly. Plus, the site was very private. We did have to park near the house and carry our things down to the campsite. It was a short walk, so it wasn't a problem at all, just something to know before you go that your car won't be right next to your site. We would definitely come back and camp here again!

We had a lovely visit at Eric and Donna's place. They had a golf cart to help us transport our gear from the car to the campsite, and we felt safe and welcomed. The campsite was quiet and our dog had a blast! We would definitely come back.

Perfect weekend getaway

We loved our stay at this camp site. The hosts were so sweet and accommodating. The site itself was private and the perfect escape from city life. There are beautiful hiking trails about 7 miles away, as well. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a getaway.

I highly recommend River Hills Hideaway for a relaxing camping trip to get away from it all. The grounds were nice, facilities were as described and the hosts are all incredibly kind and generous people. As an added bonus there are a great number of cats who are very friendly as well as one very chill older dog!

I loved it here. It was very accommodating. The only thing I would change would be being able to pull the car up closer to the camp ground. We like to leave food in the car at night so as not to attract any creatures. Another site was able to pull multiple cars right up and it would have been cool if we could have moved ours closer but other than that it was exceptional. They got along great with our dog and helped us when they could.

Eric and Donna are dream hosts! They were so helpful and accommodating. The campsite was gorgeous and private - you can see the stars through the trees. Nearby state park fun to check out during the day. We had amazing time here and will definitely be returning!!! Also bonus: Cat-lover’s paradise! Free-roaming kitties (super friendly and sweet) wander the campsites.

Staying with Eric and Donna was exactly what we were looking for! We spent Labor Day weekend on their property and couldn't have been happier. The site was well cared for. The bathrooms that they provide were clean when we arrived and easy to maintain and conveniently located nearby the site that we stayed in. Eric and Donna are honestly lovely and kind humans who gave us plenty of space to have our weekend to ourselves, but were happy to engage with us when we ran into them near the house. They were very conscientious with regard to COVID and social distancing, which was great. And they have such lovely cats living on their property. I honestly don't know how we will be able to camp without cats in the future. We woke up every morning to find kitty friends ready to greet us as we went about our day. 10/10, would stay with them again.

The host family was very nice and accommodating. The bathroom/shower setup is very clever. The only thing I would say is that the road is a little busier/louder at 5 am than I would have expected it to be.

Serene, eclectic, and delightful

The Secret Garden site was an absolute dream- natural, secluded enough to feel the peace of being in the forest while close enough to major roads to get wherever we needed. Our hosts were lovely and kind. The fire pit was awesome and we loved the company of sweet furry kitties that came to visit.

Lovely experience

Eric and his family were very welcoming upon our arrival along with their crew of adorable pets waiting for us at the gate! We enjoyed a very nice, peaceful family weekend away from Long Island and NYC. The campsite was clean, private and had everything we needed (the pop up toilet was a huge plus!) We enjoyed one of our days at Muddy Run, followed by watching the sunset at Pinnacle Overlook. I highly, highly recommend this. What an absolutely beautiful view we had just sitting in the grass and relaxing. We didn't get to do much more exploring around the area due to it being a short trip, but Eric's property helped us get some much needed R&R in. We would definitely come back if we are in the area again!

Perfect!

My first Hipcamp experience was perfect! The hosts were great communicaters, and the site was beautiful! The private bathroom tent was a super convenient touch. Great trees for hammocks, lots of shade, and very spacious. I would highly recommend the Rhododendron Trail at Susquehannock State Park (switch over to the Fire Trail for some beautiful overlooks). I should note that this is probably not a great site for loud parties, but perfect for families, hikers, Lancaster tourists, or a romantic camp getaway!

Eric & Donna were great hosts. Donna was waiting at the front gate when we arrived and showed us around their property. Our site was a short walk from the car with a picnic table, fire pit and logs to start our fire. There was a luggable loo and a hose for potable water. They have a dozen cats that kept their distance but we’re pretty friendly. Donna sent us a list of local activities that we checked out. Unfortunately I think their neighbors set off some late night fireworks that woke us up. Overall it was a very pleasant stay.

We stayed at the Big Rock site, which we were able to drive right to, although it was a little tricky getting our Honda Pilot between some of the small trees along the path. The site was roomy enough for our two tents though, with a very nice grate for the fire pit. The site is along the property line, and you can see the neighboring house, and they have a bright light in their backyard, although fortunately there were enough leaves on the trees to block most of the light from it. There are so many trees that it's nicely shaded and not really a site for star gazing, so the light wasn't too annoying, but it could be in the fall or early spring when the trees are fully leafed. Would definitely consider staying again if we were in the area.

Great Hosts, Great property

Eric and his wife were very welcoming to our family. They were so nice to our boys and made them balloons to play with. They were warm, gracious, and helpful as well. The kids loved the cats and Maverick the dog. We had a great time and the property was fun to explore. Highly recommend!

This is such a nice spot! Eric & Donna are great hosts. The site is definitely private, but close enough to their house in case you need anything from them. They gave great recommendations of things to do in the area — really nice hikes and spots to cool off in the water! They also have so many cute cats on their property! Pippy stayed with us all day and almost all night! She’s adorable. I definitely recommend this spot!

Susquehanna Escape

My girlfriend and our dog Pauly stayed here for a couple nights. Eric and his family were welcoming, warm and also extremely informative. We felt like we had barely scratched the surface with the one full day we got to do activities. Swimming holes, hiking, historic sites, a few vistas of the Susquehanna. Pretty killer for a hop, jump and a skip from Philly. I'd definitely recommend and I'm interested in returning to check out some of the stuff we didn't get around to. For Mid-August, there were surprisingly few bugs too, which was a plus. Fair warning: be prepared to wait behind some Amish buggies on the roads! Happy travels.

Great Site, Great Hosts

Eric was a fantastic host. Very friendly and very helpful. He delivered firewood and helped bring gear down to the site on his golf cart. The site, though right in his backyard, felt very secluded being downhill and completely surrounded by trees. We barely saw or heard anyone else during the trip. Across the street is an Amish meetinghouse and if you stay on Sunday, you can hear them singing and see their horses and buggies lined up along the street. It was well worth the drive from DC.

My group and I had a great time! We arrived when it was pouring rain at the same time as another group who were staying at a different campsite. We communicated with our hosts and got settled as soon as the rain stopped, and it was smooth sailing from there! We really enjoyed Kelly's Run and meeting all the cats!
