Trothwood Forest

The camp site was beautiful and very private. Easy to find. There’s a really sturdy wagon to carry supplies and plenty of firewood for sale. The swivel grate on the fire pit was great for cooking up a meal. Would definitely recommend

This was a great hipcamp, about 30 min from the trails we hiked. The site was beautiful and the hosts were great— there was a small wasp nest by the shower and the hosts took care of it within about 5 minutes of being informed. (Very responsive and very friendly!). The shower is a foot pump and there’s a spicket to fill up water jugs/bottles as well.

We had a great time at the Addy Shelter and the land in general. My daughter loved the chickens and cats, and we were able to camp with our dog! The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The site was very nice and private and quiet. It’s a bit of a hike up a hill to the site from the parking area.

Whispering pines was a great site!! Jim and his wife are very nice people. The site it's self was very quiet, with multiple trees to choose from to hang a hammock from. There is also plenty of room for a tent as well.

Really enjoyed tent camping here. The hiking trails around the property were well kept and easy to follow. Found a waterfall I had no idea was nearby. The campsite was easy to find and I enjoyed the walk to it, made it feel very isolated which is what I was hoping for. The host was super nice and offered to get me anything from the gas station in town if I forgot anything. Highly recommend!

Warm Spot on a Cold Weekend

The Brooder Woodstove Cabin

Headed up to Trothwood Forest for a winter camping trip this past weekend (Feb. 21-23) and hiking at nearby Zaleski State Forest with a buddy. We booked the Whispering Pines site. Site was clean, well-maintained, and the log benches and firepit with attached cooking spit and grate were a nice convenience with the snow covered ground. Jim the host was great, responded very fast, and was very helpful especially since I got turned around when I first arrived and went the wrong way!! I messaged him and he had someone come out to help show me the site and the right path almost immediately (Tip: if you park at the flagpole, head straight in with the house on your right and you'll see the marked site signs). The sites are well-marked with signs on the path and the pines were beautiful. The path to get to the sites was wide and maintained. Whispering Pines was perfect for a hammock with the tree spacing and we luckily had two clear nights and a beautiful view of the stars above the pines with no light pollution. It got down to 8 degrees the first night and stayed around 15 the second night but the site was well-sheltered from the wind and we only felt a slight breeze which made it better with the cold temps! The site had cellular service the whole time too. We would definitely book again and recommend it. Also, if you're in the area, shout out to Mama Renie's in nearby McArthur which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner and great pizza when you've been hiking all day!

The hosts were awesome and very accommodating. The cabin itself is awesome and there is a great set of trees for hammocking, but it should be noted that the property around the Brooder Cabin site was recently cleared. There is very little privacy and you can pretty much see straight into the house nearby. I know they are planting something to correct this, so if you’re seeing this review in a few months, you should be set!

The site was definitely private. More clarification would have been good in the description. The site is almost a quarter mile hike from where you park. It's more ideal for hammock camping than larger ground tents. We had a hard time finding suitable spots to set our stuff up. We had 7 people, one who camped in their car in the parking area and we felt very cramped near the fire area. Not a bad site by any means, but we probably wouldn't have booked it had we known what we were getting into.

This is a great private spot. I enjoyed a couple nights in the tent with my dogs. Great spot to set up my hammock as well. I needed a last minute place to pitch my tent and this was the perfect spot to pick! A noisy group was blasting music until 2am the first night but the next night was quiet and peaceful listening to the wind blowing through the pine trees

When I arrived I was greeted by Jim and his wife. Very nice folks and they made me feel welcome. They even offered to haul my gear to Fallen Pines The day and night was very enjoyable. We even got to hear some Coyotes. I would go again

Already planning a second trip. These folks have some beautiful property. All sorts of wildlife came to visit all weekend. Plenty of fallen/dead wood around. Highly recommend a visit

I have nothing but good things to say about this camp site. It was so peaceful and quiet. We felt tucked away but also not too far away. Our dogs joined us and loved the land to be able to explore. Getting there was super easy and we were able to pull our truck up to our camp site. Having the shelter above us was also really nice. I highly recommend staying here, Jim was also very friendly and communicative. There’s tons of places to go hiking around the area and on the property.

Would Go Again!

Site: 10/10 beautiful. Wonderful for hammocking. We brought a 6 person tent and it JUST fit in the space available. Host: 10/10 came and said hello. Cared about our experience. Was happy to help and hear us. Directions: 7/10 GPS says its location. A sign by the road would help immensely. Got a bit lost in translation as to how to get to our site exactly. Had to ask for permission to drive closer to our site. People were ruining their trails in muddy conditions. Sound: 9/10 it sounded as if there were coyotes or dogs going off for like a hour but it died down. Completely calm. Heard a loud vehicle of the bugs and critters very rarely. We didn't shower or use the restroom besides peeing but I wasnt afraid to figure it out.

It was great tent camping here with my brother! the location was secluded so no noisy neighbors, we were all by ourselves. Most of the site was under the cover of some trees which is nice in case of rain. There's no picnic table like you would see at a traditional campsite although there is a log to sit on near the fire. If you want a table to cut up vegetables or eat meals at you will have to bring it yourself. The owner of the property was helpful, and responded quickly to any and all questions we had! Overall a great stay. I don't know how well the shower works, we only stayed one evening and didn't have to use it.

Easy First Motocamp Spot

Great location, fairly quite, and easy to get to. I rode my ADV back to the site without issue, first motocamping experience. There was a ton of space to set up tents. Plenty of close trees for hammock tents and a really cool fire ring, seating included.
