Great for the family! We enjoyed the amenities but also being close to hiking which our family loves. The red trail on the campground was fun even with all the down trees (the kids thought of it as ninja obstacles!). We will be back again!

Spacious Skies Bear Den was an awesome campground! We had plenty of space at our site and were just a short walk from the nice, clean bathhouse. The location is amazing (right off the blue ridge parkway) and there’s so much to do at the campground itself. We will definitely be back!

I loved the staff! This is a large campground but it is also so big that there are plenty of quiet and beautiful places to sit in peace. If you have kids it is perfect as there are plenty of varied things to do. I only stayed one night but you could easily stay a week and just explore the area!!

Bear Den was the most amazing camping experience I’ve ever had! Moving out here by myself felt so scary, but the staff (Matt, KP, and Brittany especially!) became my instant best friends. They treated me and my dog like family and everything is gorgeous, clean and fairly priced!

Just BOOK IT ALREADY!

So they asked what went well? Honestly, the whole experience. I was very impressed with a lot of little details such as a fire feature with several chairs when you check in. An arcade with everything from Miss Pac-Man to a basketball shoot. Wonderful trails, even with all of the damage that came through this area, it's remarkable to see how well this it place looked. The bathrooms were clean. The spaces generally are done in a way to provide each one with at least a little bit of privacy. Some even have a 6-ft privacy fence as well. I would even consider coming back and staying at one of the cabins. I nosed around and looked at one the moonbow cabin that I would adore late fall early winter. You really must come to this place. It's an experience you won't forget whether it's someone such as my self traveling alone or a family, there is something for everyone. Also, don't forget to check out the planetarium up in Burnsville. That was really cool!

Tent/Pop-Up RV Site - 18ft

We were arriving late. They had everything lined up for our arrival. Love the location. Definitely not your typical campground. A lot of great amenities. Did get to see the damage for the major weather disaster and flooding first hand. Cleanup crews were actively getting the campground back to beautiful condition. Regardless, we will go back. This time for a longer stay. Enjoyed it immensely.

There was plenty to do at this family oriented campground.. fishing, swimming, basketball, air mattress jump, arcade, gem mining (bags, bucket), dog park for your dog, cute store in case you forgot something..and even food even though we brought our own. It was quiet for the most part and shaded. We will definitely be back.

We enjoyed our stay here. They had a lot of things for kids. Several playgrounds, an arcade, bouncy thing, fishing pond, golf carts, and more. I do suggest booking through their website so you can choose the spot you’d prefer though. The spot we stayed in was nice with full hookups though.

We appreciated having the option of a pull thru site. It was quiet, there was plenty of room at the site, bathrooms were clean and stocked. Although we didn't have kids, this is a great campground with lots of options to keep kids entertained. (arcade, rec area, gem mining, fishing etc) We were disappointed the hiking trails were closed but we understand it was due to the recent storm. (we get it, we are from FL and have restoration happening too that's show moving) . it was convenient to have firewood and ice on site.

20/30/50 AMP Premium Full Hook-Up Pull-Thru - 32ft

The site was really small and we were on top of our neighbor. This caused our stay to be far from peaceful. Loud neighbors even though there is “quiet time” low hanging trees so pulling an rv through was tough. The staff how ever was really friendly but no one ever answered the office phone.

This is one of the best campsites I ever stayed at. It has everything you could ask for except a pool. Hiking to trails right from the camp was a huge bonus though. The campsite is clean and staff friendly. We stayed at site A18 and we loved it!

We loved every second of our trip to Spacious Skies Bear Den! Our site was large and secluded by trees. Very peaceful! Even during Father’s Day weekend, it was quiet and calm which is what we were looking for. This is the kind of RV camping I remember from my childhood rather than the crammed in sites and “resorts” that are everywhere now. The staff were all super friendly and helpful! They had a few things going on in celebration of Father’s Day such as Donuts with Dad, card making, and a scavenger hunt. We rented a golf cart for the weekend and had fun on it. The hurricane damage forced the closure of one of the trails, but we still had fun and our dogs really liked the rides. Speaking of dogs, our dogs were welcome and greeted enthusiastically by the staff. They were a lot happier with the space and lots of places to sniff around. They really enjoyed walking down to the waterfall and sniffing around the pond. We will definitely return!

Camping at Bear Den (A35/37)

We stayed at Bear Den Campground site A35/37 from April 25 to April 27. I booked online through Hipcamp, booking was easy. A35/37 is one big group campsite, not two separate sites. Size was enough and the ground was very well leveled, felt like sleeping on an orthopedic mattress. Only one vehicle was allowed, so all people and all camping stuff had to fit into one vehicle, which was uncomfortable for us. Restroom and shower were excellent and clean, but no trash can at the campsite, we had to carry trash about 230 feet to the restroom area. No grill setup at the campsite, so you have to bring your own if you want to grill. The place was peaceful, safe, and the night sky was beautiful, full of stars. Nearby attractions like Blue Ridge Parkway and Pisgah National Forest were close, but it took about 4 minutes to drive 1 mile because of mountain roads. Overall, we had a good experience. I would give 8 out of 10 because of three small issues: no trash can at the site, only one vehicle allowed, and no grill provided.

Small sites, no Privacy

Tent/Pop-Up RV Site - 28ft

The staff was wonderful and helpful as much as they could be. Plenty of cool amenities for the kids and bathhouses were mostly functional and clean. Unfortunately, the site (17B) which was allegedly for a 28ft trailer, was not level and was tiny. We barely got a truck with RTT, and two small pup tents into the level part of the site, which left the picnic table off to the side on a treed incline, and VERY limited space around the fire pit. No room was left for the small clamshell shelter we usually set up. We had communicated what we would have in terms of equipment prior to reserving and were told it was suitable. In fairness, other sites would have worked but this one didn’t, and there was nothing else available. I would decommission this site or just suggest that it is suitable for a single small trailer (no way it works for 28ft) and that you’d have a heck of a time parking another vehicle (towing) anywhere in the same site. I would also note that you have VERY LITTLE privacy. Our campsite was perhaps 20’ from two adjacent ones, which made them starting their Harley’s up in the middle of the night as they were carrying on a true cultural experience!

This is a great campground with clean facilities, spacious sites, and multiple activities for kids. Some of the sites are very close together, but you can have general privacy if your tent/camper is positioned right. I feel like this place provided a good value for the price.

Father / son camping in WNC

Very clean and woodsy campground right off the Blue Ridge Parkway! Friendly and helpful staff who ensure safety and a fun time for all ages. We pulled a ~35’ camper and site had more than enough for our F350 too. Fire pit was immaculately clean of debris, so make sure to bring firewood or it’s for sale at the store for a decent price compared to W-mart. Will be back!
