Breathtaking is an understatement. The tranquility, the views, the trail to the water….everything was beautiful. Steve & Penny were so welcoming and warm. They gave us a “welcome bag” with treats and things to do around the area. We took a few of their recommendations and don’t regret it. We will certainly be back!

What an unexpected, hidden gem! I didn't realize that we had booked our own private campsite on top of a mountain surrounded by mountain views. Nestled between a cornfield and on old forest were 2 RV sites - One for us- and the other RV site for friends- so we’ll keep that in mind for the future. It’s a buy one get one free site- so you have the whole place to yourself or bring a friend with a 2nd RV. There’s no bath house or restroom- but there’s a large, beautiful shelter with a concrete floor, picnic tables and 2 large comfortable chairs. Up on the high top in the well packed gravel clearing is a handsome fire pit, with free, chopped wood and 2 Adirondack chairs. The grounds are well maintained. We hoped to arrive by 5pm- but we didn’t arrive until close to 10pm. Steve and Penny were so kind and accommodating. Steve met us at the site at 9:45pm to give us an overview of the grounds.
There’s a 7/10 of a mile hike through an enchanting old forest down to a private lookout over the New River, and the opportunity to grill. We LOVED Peak A View! The peace and privacy is unrivaled. It’s unlike any place we’ve ever stayed, and we look forward to camping here again in the future.

Hidden Gem!!!

I hesitate to share this because I’d love to keep them a secret! 😆 Penny & Steve are WONDERFUL! Super quick responses and accommodating! The property is beautiful with a Mtn view, deer and turkeys roaming around, a stone fire pit for evening star gazing and a gorgeous trail to the river! This is our favorite HipCamp property ever …no competition!!

Many thanks again, Steve & Penny, for sharing your slice of paradise with the rest of us. Your farm is by far the best hipcamp, or camping grounds anywhere, in which we’ve stayed. The site, the fire pit, the views, the pavilion, proximity to the river, open space for the dogs to freely roam, etc. etc. were simply splendid. And I can’t thank you enough for the check-ins and helping with setup in advance of the rain!! You are tremendous hosts and remarkable people.

Very Unique and Private Campsite

Very unique and private campsite that sits on a well maintained area perfect for rv and tent camping alike. The site has a boondocking feel to it with full hookup luxuries. You get the true feeling of privacy with breathtaking views. A 20 minute hike down a fairly steep path will bring you to a wide running river with places to sit and relax while enjoying nature. Two full hookup sites that can accommodate large and small rigs (50 amp power) with great views and a nice size firepit (firewood included!). Large covered pavilion with picnic tables with bright or dim lighting. A bath house coming soon. Some of the best on-site wifi we have had provided by the hosts. We had a nice, quiet, relaxing rv camping trip at Peak-A-View. My wife and I agree with others in saying we don't want this gem of a campground to get to popular. We also want Steve and Penny to fulfill their dreams of whatever their plans are for this in the future. Thank you Steve and Penny for sharing your beautiful property with us. You will see us again! The shelter was amazing for the family to grill, sit around chatting staring at the long range view of the mountain and play board games in the rain. The 2 different types of lighting on the shelter was a nice touch. Our pups had a ball running around the campsite and there was plenty of room for all of us. The fire pit is a work of art. This place is perfect for stargazing and watching fireflies all night! Thank you for sharing such an amazing space with us. Everyone was insistent on making sure we book again next year! 😊

This was hands down the best Hipcamp we've stayed at! Penny and Steve were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and quick to respond. The property was beautiful, with gorgeous mountain views and plenty of space for our dogs to run and play.
One of our favorite features was being able to drive our truck down the dirt trail to the river. We spent a ton of time fishing. We caught a bunch of smallmouth bass!
The location was perfect. West Jefferson was only about 15 minutes away and had adorable shops and restaurants. We happened to visit over the Fourth of July weekend and got to experience the Christmas in July festival, which had a bunch of local vendors and live music, which was such a fun surprise.
The campsite is also located near New River State Park, Mount Jefferson State Natural Area with its beautiful scenic overlook, and the Blue Ridge Parkway, making it an excellent base for exploring the area.
We loved every minute of our stay and can't recommend this Hipcamp enough. We even booked an extra night while we were there. This has become our favorite Hipcamp so far, and we'll definitely be back!

Scenic New River Access

The site is private and spacious. We appreciated the large covered shelter as it was sunny and hot the day we visited. The hike to the river access is fairly long, so we recommend making sure you have everything you need before heading out. The river access is really beautiful, with a flat grassy bank and plenty of shade.
In the evening we enjoyed watching a family of deer graze in the field.
The owner mentioned that he is building a bath house that will have showers and toilets.

This site has everything we wanted. Lots of space for our big group, privacy, a full RV hook up and access to a perfect river for swimming. The hike down to the river is a nice walk too. Steve and Penny were very kind and helpful. I would 100% recommend this site.

We had a wonderful weekend stay at this beautiful location! The host was incredibly kind, and the land itself is stunning. The river is nearby and easily accessible, making it perfect for outdoor activities. One of the highlights was watching a spectacular lightning bug show at night; there were so many, and my 7-year-old was especially excited about it! If you're looking for a great place to stay, I highly recommend this spot—don't hesitate to book here!

Simply Amazing!

From the second we turned onto the long driveway entrance to Peak a View, we knew our stay would far and away exceed our expectations. We were greeted by Steve & Penny who gave us a brief description of the land along with helpful local information. They could not have been nicer.
The site offers multiple level options for your RV, all with views of the mountains, woods, and open meadows (frequently visited by local wildlife). The electric, water & sewer hookups were effortless.
The fire pit and large covered patio was perfect. The wide open skies offer amazing star gazing.
We knew that the hipcamp offered access to a river, little did we know how absolutely amazing this private section of the South Fork of the New River would be. The peace, beauty and tranquility along with the calming sounds of the water will never be forgotten.
We can’t thank Steve & Penny enough for sharing their amazing land in the North Carolina mountains.
We can't wait to go back!

Fantastic Mountain Getaway

An absolutely stunning site. The surrounding mountains provide a majestic backdrop. It’s a peaceful, serene, and extremely private spot.
The pavilion is a unique amenity that made our stay a bit more “luxurious” than anticipated. However, the private access to the river is a ridiculously amazing perk that elevates Peak A View to a level that is unmatched.
The proximity to neighboring towns and hiking trails offered a nice diversity of activities.
Steve and Penny’s communication was top notch throughout. They were very helpful in getting us set up but more importantly, they are friendly, kind, and sincere hosts. We appreciate their generosity in sharing this magical place.
We will undoubtedly be returning to Peak A View as it checks every box, and then some!

Beautiful property. Our families enjoyed the peace and quiet. Little to no traffic along the road. I think we saw 10 cars all weekend! And the River is gorgeous. We definitely want to get back in the summer and enjoy some tubing. And town is less than a 20 minute drive to enjoy restaurants and shopping. Thanks Steve and Penny.

Great place to stay! Host are great people and very welcoming. The campsite is very private and has amazing views. We enjoyed relaxing fires every night and watching the fog lift to coffee in the morning. The access to the river is a huge plus. The trail to get to the river is beautiful itself, but the river front is perfect. Our dogs enjoyed running around and we enjoyed relaxing by the water. This place is added to our list of sites that we will be returning to in the future.

It was great. We loved having our meals out under the pavilion, rain or shine. It was also wonderful letting the dogs run around unleashed. They were able to run out some energy and crash. The river is truly picturesque. Steve and Penny were quick to respond and very accommodating.

Best Family Time at Peak-a-View
We had a fabulous time camping at Peak-a-View!
We were welcomed by Penny, and she even had a bag with brochures to local activities. So very thoughtful!
Full-hook up, private, AND gorgeous views could it get any better?! Yes, it can...because there was a magical trail to hike down to the river!
We floated down the rapids, went fishing, and played games (there is an overhang at the river with chairs and a table).
Our pup was able to roam free, and our children were able to ride their bikes down the drive.
We were able to enjoy the firepit with the two chairs, and they provided firewood!
The stars put on a show, since there is not light pollution.
We saw many birds, butterflies, wild turkeys, and deer.
The covered patio with picnic tables and trash cans was great for meals and games.
There are a lot of great local hiking trails; we enjoyed hiking in Mount Jefferson State Natural Area. We also had a lovely time exploring downtown.
We will be back!
