Private end of road property in the Cowee Valley of Franklin NC, which is the first resupply stop along the Appalachian Trail through the Smoky Mountains. Cowee Valley is a gorgeous scenic valley with farmland and winding roads and mountains on all sides. Idyllic drive in with plenty of cows grazing, deer and wild turkey running around and amazing sunsets. Cowee Campground has newly been made into a campground, previously undeveloped. We have left most of it undisturbed to maintain the natural and peaceful nature vibes. This land is a short distance off the main roads and small/private. All tent sites are in the shaded forest and RV hookups are just a few steps away with hardwoods filling out and providing partial shade. It's a quiet area with the sounds of nature and leaves rustling. We hope you'll appreciate and enjoy the beauty and tranquility as much as we do. If you want to car/truck camp without hookups we have space for that too. Just let us know. We have a beautiful 4 bathroom bathhouse, with ADA shower and another bathroom with clawfoot tub/shower and private back deck. 2 large firepits with Andirondack chairs and a separate picnic table and grill area. There is a large communal Yoga/Event deck and covered Bar/Hangout area beneath - hammock, bar top, darts and it's own firepit as well. Plus Corn hole and Horseshoe pits for your enjoyment. For weekly or monthly RV reservations, please contact 828-371-8471. Weekly RV rates are $325.00 and Monthly are $750.00 Also available for Retreat or Event rental.

Cowee is the best campground we’ve ever been to - and we’ve been to a lot all up and down the east coast. Tanya has clearly designed this campground to every last detail with an aesthetic hand. From the campsites themselves and their views, to the public spaces, conveniences of a laundry room to bathrooms which look like bathrooms out of a camp beautiful magazine. And Tanya is absolutely fabulous - responsive and very caring. We are definitely coming back!

We had an enjoyable time at the campground. I have a van camper class B and site 6 is plenty large enough. The restrooms and showers are very nice and clean. The deck and area under are very nice place to relax and party or just enjoy the outdoors.

I honestly can’t say enough good about Tanya and her property! She was incredibly kind and quick to respond to any questions we had. You can tell a lot of thought and love has gone into this campground. It was the perfect mix for my boyfriend (who likes to rough it) and me and my daughter who prefer more of a glamping vibe . Best of both worlds and then some! The gem mine on the property was really great too. We extended our stay because we enjoyed being there so much. We will be back and tell all our friends about this place. :)

Camping next to a ruby mine!

This is a well maintained campground at a beautiful location. The tent sites are in the woods and offer the feeling of a remote camping experience. But this has all the amenities of a well-appointed campground, including a shower house thoughtfully designed and built using reclaimed materials. As others have said, it’s like no campground shower house you’ve ever seen - more like private bathrooms at a lodge. The adjoining gem mine is a fun way to spend a few hours. Tanya is a welcoming host. Her creativity and vision has made this a really special place.

The Cowee campground was perfect for a quick overnight tent trip with my family. The location and scenery are top notch. The bath house was new and clean - even better than pictured. My kids enjoyed all the open space to explore the property. WiFi on the property and power outlets in the bathrooms were nice creature comforts for the family. Tanya responded quickly to any questions through the Hipcamp app. We’ll definitely be back - highly recommended!

This is a beautiful spot to camp with some superior amenities like the deck, fire pits and amazing restrooms/showers! I brought my dog on her first camping trip and though she couldn’t hang with the cicadas she had some great walks. This was my first trip to Franklin and I’ll be back with plans next time to mine gems.

We stayed in the tent sites. They are all wooded/shaded on a hillside. Each has a level, sand tent pad which made for cozy sleep and easy tent set up. The bath house and grilling/campfire areas are a short (maybe 30 yd) walk. The bath house is by far the nicest I have ever seen in a campground - I was almost disappointed to come home and have to shower in my own. There is water right there and electric outlets I used to charge my little power bank for overnight device charging. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to come back.

What a beautiful location for a getaway! Tanya was a perfect host and answered all our questions and was very friendly and accommodating! The site was clean and there's a nice area for communal bonfires. I highly recommend this campground if you want quiet and it's walking distance from the Sheffield mine!

Shockingly Beautiful Bathrooms

This campground has all the bases covered. There was a lot of charming cow mooing from a farm down the hill. I was shocked by the bathrooms. They are almost like little cabins. Made of salvaged materials with beautiful porcelain sinks and even one with a claw foot tub that looks out on a balcony with a view of rolling hills, wild flowers and pure natural beauty. There are so many thoughtful details that create a hospitable atmosphere. The tent sites are perfectly flat in little hollowed out half circles surround by ferns and beautiful trees. The RV sites have individual water pumps and electricity! There’s a picnic area with a set of big picnic tables and grills adjacent to a set of fire pits with Adirondack chairs. There is yet another communal space that is covered by a giant deck perfect for a yoga retreat. This is the perfect spot to host a large group or bring a crew of kids. Above the camp, they run the cutest gem mine I’ve ever seen. It has a lily pad pond that you can look out into while panning for gems. Tanya is the most gracious host. She was so welcoming and attentive. Thank you Tanya!

Beautiful land right next to a very cool gem mine. Bathrooms are excellent and it’s very quiet. Tent and RV spots available. Tanya was lovely as was her space. Easy to get around and to Franklin and other parts of Western NC to explore.

What a great find! Beautiful setting with wildflowers growing in the fields! The bathrooms are amazing. Very clean & great water pressure. RV spots are nice and level. Easy access to the place. Close to town.

This is new campground and a work in progress so it may see a bit random at first, but it is a pretty cool space, in a great location, with great people! Located on the back side of a hill that blocks road-noises, access is a short gravel road off good paved roads only a few miles off route 28, halfway between Franklin and Bryson City. This is a very quiet area with great sounds of nature and a dark, star-filled sky. RV sites have modern frost-proof water, sewer, and 20/30/50 amp electric located mid-site. RV sites are back-in, but can also be used front-in by motorhomes due to mid-site fixtures. Tent and RV sites have good wi-fi and cell service in this mountainous area that is lacking in both. Hammock-friendly, two-person tent sites are nestled among the trees, on a slight hill, yet convenient to parking and bath-house. Heated bath-house is a very unique, clean, artistic mix of modern and antique materials and fixtures. There are centrally-located fire pits, horse-shoe and corn-hole courts, picnics tables, and a beautiful large Deck with a common area underneath for in-climate weather. There is a equally cool, artistically appointed cabin up a short walk from RV/tent area with fire-pit, deck nestled in the woods. There is a short walk to a productive, historic gem mine on the other side of the hill from the campground. This is unique clean, friendly, cool place typical of Hipcamp.

I absolutely loved camping here!!! The bathrooms were clean and spacious with outlets. I hung up a hammock at spot 5. I cooked dinner on the fire pit nearby and there was even a wood pile! A quick walk to the ruby mine made the stay even more exciting! Will visit again!

I enjoyed camping at Tanya’s location! She was so welcoming + friendly. The bathrooms are clean and so cute! There were fireplaces, grills, tables, chairs, and wood she has already chopped for guest. I would definitely recommend or stay again!
