The Hideout
The tent site was great. The tent and the wood stove were well maintained, we had no issues with running the stove or keeping the tent warm all night. The tent site itself had a decent amount of ice, but not the end of the world. The path leading up had enough spots without snow to get up without problems. We had a 4 yr old and a 6 yr old in February. Great time and great location.

Steven was great easy to communicate with and provided everything we needed to have a great weekend camping. I would highly recommend this site to anyone looking to get away for a weekend. I will definitely be returning.

This was an awesome camping site with everything we wanted (and a few extras!) It feels more remote than it is and is beautifully situated up on the land with the Weare Reservoir below. Lots of seating and benches around the camp fire and a cozy bunk bed with queen mattresses. Also well laid out with space for other tents if you brought friends along. We went towards the end of June and the weather was perfect. The tiki torches were awesome to have - helped with mosquitoes (which weren't that bad!) We brought an axe with us, but there was already one there. Spent a great day at Clough State Park 10 minutes away swimmin, fishing and kayaking. Took a great hike on Steve's land using the map he provided. We appreciated the extras you could pay for if you needed them (torch fluid, water, fire starters, etc. ) camping with kiddos can be stressful for us newbies and it helped to have those extras if we needed them. Only complaint was that an ATV was on the trail right by the camp at 10pm at night and it seemed ready to come right through our camp. It was pitch black so we didn't know who it was (I was in full mama bear mode ready with the axe lol) but they stayed on the lower part of the orange trail and drove right below the camp, not through (lucky them! LOLL)

The Hideout
Excellent camping site. I really appreciated the privacy we had back there. Steven had a very convenient set up with tools and supplies that made stay at his site very comfortable. And the tent is unbelievably nice!

Second winter stay -- lovely! The steep driveway up to the site was iced over and there was no way my car was going to get up it without snowtires and 4WD, but there was parking at the foot of the driveway and Steve left a sled for schlepping gear up (and offered to help ferry stuff, but our timing didn't mesh). The property has space for some good long walks in the woods (Steve loaned out snowshoes). The tent was cozy and set up nicely, warmed with the wood stove.

I stayed over from Christmas Eve for the weekend, and had the gamut from pouring rain to light snow to clear and cold. The tent held up to it all, stayed comfortable. Chilly when the fire was out, of course, but the wood stove made it nice and toasty. Steven's wood was good quality -- dried properly, so I had no trouble splitting it to make some dry kindling (everything around the site was wet wet wet from the snow and the rain I arrived in). The camp potty was...well, as described. It's camping, not a hotel, you know? Due to the temperature and rain, I didn't use the furniture, but Steven left snowshoes on site that I used for hiking, and the trails around the property were well-marked and pretty, with trees (well, yeah), some interesting rock formations (Steven mentioned two different types of granite across the width of the property) and a pretty vigorous little creek draining the hill the property is on. You will want snow tires, chains, or AWD to get up the last bit of the hill (I couldn't) -- but the walk's not bad if your car can't handle the steep bit. Steven did come by, so it wasn't quite no-contact, but he was masked and stayed a safe distance, and talked about the lengths he goes to clean between guests, so no covid concerns on my part. Awesome stay, and I'm likely to look for another date to take the kids this time!

The Lost Boys Hideout was just what our little family needed! We arrived later than expected on our first night and within minutes of arriving in the dark, Steven had stopped by to check on us and make sure we were navigating the site well. Very hospitable. We found the campsite to be very quaint and well equipped! We enjoyed quality family time, peace & quiet and some good old fashioned camping fun! We hope to visit again!

Great site! Pack light and prepare for a bit of a mountain climb to get to it. The trails are the same. Pack good shoes too! Steve was helpful and welcoming.

This was a lovely little spot. The tents were so well accomedated! Tents had heaters and air matress included. There was a beautiful covered platform and bench. The wood stove was wonderful with the split wood available right next to it. There were tons of cooking utensils and a community box with lighter fluid, matches, big spray and so much more. There were tiki torches all around the camp. Honestly, it was such a pleasure to camp here. There were even hiking trails on the property. It was a great cost and was perfect especially since it was last minute. The host was very nice and helped us more than once, especially with the tight parking.

Overall it was a great experience. I would definitely recommend anyone go try it. If I go again, I would definitely want to stay longer.

We had such a great weekend at The Lost Boys Forest! Steven was a fantastic host- he was easy to reach, responded quickly to any questions we had, and went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and comfortable. The site was perfect, it was spacious and private but close enough to civilization that we could easily drive into town if we needed anything. We enjoyed a weekend of hiking, fishing, and spending time around the campfire.

This campsite went beyond my expectations, and the pictures don’t do it justice.
-there is a platform with a canopy kitchen and wood stove
-there are also two tents available with sturdy inflatable beds. I expected to end up rolling into my friends at night, but I slept like an angel.
- the toilet is very private, sturdy, and exceptionally maintained. Imagine a little cubicle stall that has one opening looking deep into the forest A la Rick and Morty, s4 e2.
All of these spots surround a fire pit and pic nic Table area with Additional chairs and seats. The pit and table are covered under a high tarp that would make fire manageable even in rain.
-Nothing fancy, but there are ample supplies for folks who arrive and feel a bit disconcerted. Trail maps, games, fire tools, lots of pre-cut branches and twigs if you want to use that for kindling, and even logs. If you want to chop your own wood. There was an electric battery for lamps in the stove canopy, and plenty of little night lights and lanterns around.
-the host Steve was excellent about providing amenities and needs. All of his items are well priced, and he goes out of his way to check in and make sure you have what you need. He offered store runs for us without hovering or over communicating. There are so many options available that aren’t listed here in the description, I would definitely reach out to Steve If you’re interested in something not listed.
- the walk from the car to the camp site was very convenient, and accessible if you are just unloading groceries and supplies. I have a bad back and was able to carry heavier items without feeling any strain. It’s not a schlep, and the entire site is mulched and raked so that the earth is fairly even. Especially the tent bases, which are soft and flat.
- the site is very private, even though you are not far from the road. I could hear voices off in the distance but there is no sense of exposure or intrusion. The trees are gorgeous and it smells like heaven.
What I wish I knew/would improve
-more photos, or digital maps of the campsite.
- a map of the directions would also be very helpful as there were no road signs.
- I would encourage a menu or listing if some of
The existing amenities, which are extensive.
-the fire pit was deep, which is very safe, but it took some effort to get our fire enough oxygen. I wish there was better ventilation or a billow available.
- there are so many trees, that there is very little sky. This is a pro for privacy and immersion, but a con only because I love to star gaze. The surrounding area is so gorgeous, I would recommend hiking and finding a spot you can go to during the day, and then making a journey at night. I ended up walking back to the road and admiring the strip of sky open over head.
TLDR: this place has great amenities and the space is so much more than you can imagine from the description.

This site is a gem! Steven was very responsive to my questions ahead of time, including recommending areas to hike and bike nearby. The walkway to the camp was very well done and the solar lights are a lovely touch. The site and its surrounding area is extremely well maintained! Great fire pit, ample seating, lovely platform on which the tent sits. There was water there for us, as promised, and a sink to clean things. Steven really did a phenomenal job with the camp setup! The toilet and shower were also well maintained and a nice perk! The trails were nicely marked around the site and a map was provided. We did run out of water for the shower & sink at one point, but I messaged Steven and he addressed it the next morning. The queen bed was very comfortable as one of the other campers mentioned :)

We had an amazing time and all the amenities were perfect. We felt like we had the whole forest to ourselves, and it made the entire experience that much more fun. Steven was an incredible host and provided us with everything we needed and more. I honestly can’t wait until we come back!

First time using HipCamp and what a wonderful spot. Steve has thought if everything, there are lots if extras (at small fee) but worth it if you don’t have room in your car or just want a quick getaway. We were a party if 6, four teens that slept in the big tent provided. They reported the bed to be very comfortable and extra blankets available. There are a couple if extra spots for tents. Huge fire pit we used to grill and plenty of chairs there for our group. We will definitely be back!
There are small hikes around, take the orange to yellow trail and you’ll come out at cottages on the lake, go left along the road then when you see a gate on your left go to other side and follow path to lake. You’ll be happy you did! Nice spot to fish and swim. Very enjoyable thanks Steve!

We had a great stay at Sleepy Hallow! Steve set it up with plenty of air mattresses for our entire family so no one slept on the hard ground. He had a dog run and dog bowls ready for our pup too! The site was well maintained. It had a great cover over the camp fire and picnic table so when it rained we still enjoyed our time out by the fire. Steve was super helpful the entire stay.. The kids had fun exploring the woods around our site.

Steven was a great host and this site met all expectations. The ten minute hike to the site is steep but easy, even with gear in the rain. The nearby Weare Reservoir is beautiful. Heads up, the public beach is $20 to park for nonresidents.

We wanted to meet some family for socially distant and very secluded camping and that’s just what we got. Steven was great and very welcoming. The campsite is very large and there was plenty of cleared space for other tents. Tons of wood and water available and a really, really clean outhouse set up. Steven’s land is beautiful and we had a lot fun exploring. We were a party with 4 kids 8 and under and it was great for us. Definitely recommended!

Our stay at the Lost Boys Forest Sleepy Hollow camp site was everything we had hoped for and more. Steve is an incredible host, you can tell from the first moment that he loves to share his space and takes great pride in the upkeep of his property.
We took advantage of some of the extras such as a cook set, firewood, fire starter, and canoe rental. Absolutely great values!
Steve took the time to describe and suggest a number of locations for us to canoe, we settled on Turkey pond and had a wonderful time. Steve set us up with everything we needed and helped me secure the canoe to our roof rack. We paddled the pond, stopped along the shore for a lunch, and nabbed our first fish from a canoe!
Thanks for an absolutely wonderful stay, we will most definitely be back!
