The Retreat Campsites are situated on land owned by the Red Spirit Retreat Center. The beautiful wooded land is perfect for walking in. The stars are like brilliant diamonds, and in mid June the fireflies float up from the prairie into the trees by the hundreds. It is pretty quiet except for the birds and the bullfrogs and your own crackling campfire. In the spring the fruit trees can be seen blooming across the fields. Straw is grown on the neighbor's farm and cut and baled midsummer. The farm buildings are off in the distance but have gleaming white buildings and silver silos. Guests may walk wherever they like on trails or bushwhack through the forests of the Red Spirit Retreat Center. Each campsite is unique and pretty private. While you may see other campers you probably can't hear them as they are about half a city block away through the trees. Staying at the Country Dome Home is an amazing experience. Located on a hill at the top of the prairie, the view of farms and forests is spectacular. To enjoy the view, the front window is 8 feet tall and 11 feet wide. The 12 foot ceiling enlarges the room tremendously. There is an awesome feeling of spaciousness. On a warm day 8 foot wide by 3 foot high screens can be opened up to let and with the screen door to let breezes blow through. The solar fan then pulls the heat right out of the roof. Outside there is a patio sail providing shade. A lovely dinner can be cooked on a propane griddle while watching the view. Refurbished Jordan Brown Tamiami table and chairs and a chaise lounge provide comfortable seating. Deck chairs are out on the front deck as well. Sitting around the campfire is a great way to end the day. About 9 pm hundreds or thousands of fireflies slowly make their way to the tops of the huge trees and the stars start to twinkle as the sun sets. The birds, crickets, and bullfrogs gradually quiet down, lulling you to sleep in the most comfortable bed in the world. You feel at one with nature.. Stay at the dome in the fall or early spring and the wood stove will keep you toasty warm on chilly nights. Three rustic campsites with their own personalities are also on the land but hidden by trees. The Frog Pond Campsite is a in a sylvan glade next to the pond and creek, with parking immediately next to the campsite. The Edges and Deep Forest Campsites are both larger campsites that are located inside the forest near the Prairie. These sites are separated far enough apart to allow for a very private feeling. Each campsite has parking space very close by. All campsites have their own private composting toilets, fire pits, one bundle of wood, sanitary spray, toilet paper, and at least three gallons of water. At the Deer Blind more wood is available at the Deer Blind for $10 per bundle with Venmo or PayPal. There are two yoga mats, frisbees, bubbles, and a corn hole game for borrowing. You may request a one night stay, but it is dependent upon my availability to clean in between guests. We hope that our guests have a truly beautiful, quiet, and relaxing stay.

The Deep Forest campsite is surrounded by woods on all sides. Enjoy listening to the twitters and tweets of birds. Read some books, paint, play your guitar, or play Frisbee or corn hole in the prairie and restore your soul. Hang out on the provided hammock. Head out to the local beaches, restraurants. There are a number of short trails to enjoy, one starting from the door of your tent. Your campsite comes with your own private composting toilet (with dirt or wood shavings to cover your waste- no bugs and no smells), a fire pit with a free bundle of wood, five gallons of drinking water, a small table, and plenty of trees. A shared solar shower is in the prairie. The solar shower is not like at home, but the view is fantastic!  At the Deer Blind in the you can borrow frisbees, corn hole game, bubbles, and two yoga mats. Beaches, restaurants, breweries, wineries, galleries, ice cream, and cute shops, and towns are all within ten to 15 miles. Have an awesome time Gaze into the embers at your personal fire pit which comes with one free bundle of wood. Watch the fireflies rise to the tops of the trees and stargaze in the Prairie starting about 9 p.m. .

The Frog Pond Campsite

A tiny magical grove of tall trees, fireflies and a creek full of frogs is a delightful place camp.  In the evening the fireflies float upwards to the sky. At night the flames from your campfire will be reflected in the creek.  You will have your own private composting toilet, toilet paper, and sanitary spray in a privacy tent. Parking is immediately next to your tent. Five gallons of potable water is at the site as well. One bundle of wood will be included in the price.  You will need kindling, matches, and newspaper to start your fire. In late summer the frogs are quiet and the pond is much lower.

Deep Forest Campsite
We had a wonderful, peaceful, beautiful stay tucked in the woods. The sunset was perfect and communication was welcoming, quick and clear. Would definitely recommend and return!

The Frog Pond Campsite
The frog pond is always a delight! We stayed a few years back and were glad to finally return again this spring. The campsite is teeming with life: troutlilies and other wildflowers are everywhere, and the frogs sing beautifully each night, and there were so many great birds! We woke up to wood ducks and cranes calling overhead, and a Northern Flicker had made a home in a tree near the pond. The property also has tons of trillium and mayapples, both of which were still just budding when we visited in April; when we came in late May a few years ago though, they were in full bloom and it was truly a sight to see. As far as amenities, the camping toilet is a solid set-up, especially compared to some other sites we've been to, and the ample potable water prepared for us was super handy. We also appreciated the bundle of firewood provided to get us started! Lastly, great location; super short drive in to Saugatuck and Douglas, and not far from the beach. Wau-ke-na nature preserve is just five minutes down the road, with great birds and beach access. Nearby Lyons Fruit Market has morels and an excellent tart cherry jam. We will be back for sure. :)

Deep Forest Campsite
This was my girlfriend and I’s first experience using Hipcamp, so we absolutely had no clue what to truly expect from any listing. We loved this campsite, because it was a private tent site, but so close to all of the beautiful places nearby (within 20 minutes). While we didn’t use them much, the amenities offered here were better than most other sites, with the exception of some small 8 legged critters that you’d expect to find camping. We definitely plan on coming back!

Deep Forest Campsite
Sarah took care with small details such as providing firewood, five gallons of potable water, a hammock, small table and camp chair. The campsites were already out so although the place was fully booked, we felt private. The old growth forest was beautiful and the well-tended grassy field had incredible stargazing. Ten minutes away is beautiful Lake Michigan and beaches, and 15 minutes from restaurants and shopping in Saugatuck. Sarah herself was welcoming and gracious but not intrusive.

Deep Forest Campsite
My friends and I love this spot. It's perfectly nestled in the woods with close access to a meadow with a solar shower and stargazing. The composting toilet is a plus as well. We came here last year and plan to return again!

The Frog Pond Campsite
Tent camping at the frog pond was wonderful! The site is gorgeous and there are lots of frogs. It’s relatively private (we only saw one car go by) and generally quiet. The only noise we heard was an event happening nearby with music until about 10, but it wasn’t very loud. We got a strawberry rhubarb pie and it was delicious! Would definitely come back.

Overall we had a nice stay. When we arrived our campsite was taken by another camper. There seemed to have been a mixup between two campsites and we ended up staying at the Edge instead, which was fine (not as deep in the woods and the parking wasn’t as close to the site). The second campsite wasn’t prepared and the toilet still had the other camper’s waste in it. We reached out to the host, but never heard back during the stay. The campsite did have a firepit, table, hammock, bug spray, no free firewood. The site was in a good location close to towns, wineries, and the beach.

The camping site was perfect for me and my friend and the nature were amazing. The huge open field was perfect for stargazing. I loved the homemade pie, and although we didn’t get to do the tour I’m sure it would be great. The location is very close to Southhaven where you can go to the beach and shop. Overall great experience.

We loved the Edges! We were the only campers on a rainy weekend but we didn’t mind. Loved being in the trees camping and the big open field for fun in sun. The solar shower was amazing after a hot day! Bless your heart for making that, all 4 of us took use of the solar shower. We even saw deer, wild turkeys, bunnies, and bats. Lots of beautiful lightning bugs at night. We can’t thank Sandra enough for letting us stay a little later to dry out our tarps and tents. Definitely recommend this campsite if you want to feel secluded but not completely away from amenities.

This place was everything we were looking for! We were the only campers, so it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. The host check in and dropped of firewood when we arrived and was great! Loved the trail (spotted a ghost pipe plant!), having water and firewood easily accessible was perfect, and the compositing toilet was better than I expected. It was peaceful and beautiful and we plan to come back!

Sleep amongst the trees! This site is in the woods but you can see the large meadow just a few yards away. Quiet and peaceful.

The Frog Pond Campsite
Oerall we enjoyed the Red Spirit Retreat Center. The out door shower was very nice, and the homemade pie was a nice touch as well. The frog pond site was very quaint and we enjoyed the wooded feel. However, although they mentioned poison ivy in the woods (if you chose to explore) there was a lot of poison ivy right at the campsite. I feel it necessary to at least clear this area. It would have been more pleasant if the composting toilet tent was moved a bit further away from the campfire. There is plenty of room to do this. Unfortunately the last night we were there, other campers had left the property, and their composting toilet tents were full with the flaps opened (I guess to air out?) Anyway there was a foul smell the last night that seemed to be from this. Other than that it was a nice, quiet, private place to camp for a few days.

Exactly as described - quiet and peaceful, but easy access to nearby amenities. Everything was set up and ready, unfortunately I had to leave early as I wasn’t feeling well. Would definitely recommend for beginner campers like myself!

Perfect campsite for our group of 5. One of our favorite things was using the solar shower in the evening near the beautiful open field. The campsite was tucked into the woods perfectly and felt secluded yet accessible. Close to Lake Michigan as well. Hope to come back soon!

The Edges was the campsite of my dreams! Much as I like meeting new people, I like hearing nature instead of other campers when I'm in my tent. :) This place delivered wind in the trees and birdsong in the morning, just the faintest occasional sound from a distant road. Some whimsical favorite moments were watching the firefly show before falling asleep & showering in the middle of a meadow. (Don't worry, the solar shower stall is roomy and modest!) If you like peace & quiet in the woods, you found it!

We loved our stay at the Frog pond campsite. Lots of space for set up, secluded enough, trails to explore, and more! The firefly show at night in the prairie is absolutely stunning. I've never seen that many fireflies at once before. Instructions were clear, and we had everything we expected at the campsite! Definitely recommend this spot!

Perfect location just 15min from Saugatuck and South Haven. The campground really give you the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere. Highly recommended!

Sandras Deep Forest site was great! We stayed 2 nights over Memorial Day weekend and it was perfect for our group of 4. Dog friendly, fairly private, water delivered to the site, and even a shower setup. The composting toilet is also great and a welcomed addition to an otherwise ‘primitive’ site. Dunes, hiking, and delicious Virtue Cidery all just right up the road.
