Looking for a remote cabin for a romantic getaway or a relaxing time in the big Northwoods? Ellen’s cabin is off-grid (12volt DC, solar), has limited running water and unreliable cellphone service. It’s 1/2 a mile from a dirt road which is a portion of the North Country Trail, sitting in the rugged Michigamme Highlands, close to Silver Lake and Dead River Basins. The cabin is fully equipped and is 45 minutes from Ishpeming and an hour from Marquette. There is a wood stove and back-up propane for heat, a gas stove and small grill for cooking and a small fridge. There is a double bed, two single beds and a pull-out futon and all bedding is provided. There is also an open area upstairs for yoga or for children to play. There is a fire ring with wood provided, a deck with great views of the Mulligan escarpment and an outhouse. There are lots of opportunities to see birds and other wildlife and for this reason we do not allow dogs, hunting or motorized sports.Looking for a romantic getaway or an off-grid wilderness adventure? Solitude in the woods 🌲☮️

Ellen's Cabin

Our second time staying here we love it so peaceful and quiet. Well equipped cabin with an amazing mountain 🏔️ 🌄 ridge view. Newly built outhouse is very nice 👍 highly recommend.

Loved the drive out there and the view really is something special out here. Definitely bring long sleeves and bug dope though. Very cool setup and my only suggestion might be bringing your own solar shower if you require a rinse besides what the local river can provide.

Beautiful cabin in the woods 🌲

We loved the cabin definitely a hike in the winter to get to. We pulled a sled behind us with our supplies definitely made it easier. Plenty of firewood and cooking pans and utensils so just bring your food & drinking water and you'll be golden. Peace and quiet and crisp fresh air very relaxing place to be highly recommend. Outhouse was adequate cabin has led lights from solar too worked great 👍

We absolutely loved the cabin and it's personal touches. The history of it is very homey and welcoming and the location is absolutely beautiful we loved the mulligan and all it's features 100% would go again this year!

Rustic cabin with creature comforts

Ellen's Cabin

The cabin was beautiful, as was the location and the view from the many windows. Victoria supplied plenty of drinking water and firewood for the stove. The cabin kitchen was stocked with all the utensils and cookware I needed to make good use of the propane range and oven. Directions to the cabin were crystal clear. We would happily stay again.

True solitude

Ellen's Cabin

We spent 6 days at Ellen’s cabin and it was truly the tranquil escape that we were seeking. We were looking for a rustic off grid escape but with some creature comforts like an outhouse and solid structure to sleep and cook in. We live in the metro Detroit area and the true silence at Ellen’s cabin is something to behold. We explored all parts of the UP during our stay (over 1500 miles of driving!) and Ellen’s cabin was our base camp to come back too! Victoria had a huge supply of wood for us along with a filled 50 gallon water tank. Thanks for a great stay!
